Main Features

Bethesda.net versions for PC & Xbox can be found - over here
Loot any equipped armor, clothes, or random gear from your fallen enemies! No more "pick-pocketing" an unconscious target - just steal the items, what are they gunna do?

Check out the video from initial release. some options and features have changed slightly since then:

Usage:
After 10-30sec upon first installing this mod, when you approach a dead or unconscious NPC, there will be additional buttons you can press, depending on what mod settings you have enabled...

  • "Strip" un-equips any worn items on the NPC for you to see in their inventory - does NOT loot / pickup anything.
  • "Loot All" un-equips any worn items on the NPC and TRANSFERS ALL LOOT to your ship, selected party members, or the player - depending on your chosen mod settings from the Gameplay Options menu. Credits always get looted by the player.
  • "Loot/Transfer" appears when targeting an unconscious NPC - this replaces the Pick-Pocketing mechanics for unconscious NPCs and will enable you to take any items in their inventory, along with their equipped hat, weapons, or backpack, without waking them up. Clothing and Armor remain equipped and not removable.
  • In zero-g areas  - you just have to be moving quite slowly for the options to show. You may also need to look away, and back to your target for the buttons to update. This was done since the looting buttons could get in the way of zero-g traversal (moving up or down), even worse in zero-g combat.

More Details
Features:
  • All features are optional and can be configured from the "Gameplay Options" in the game's pause menu
  • Adds an additional button/prompt when looting dead NPCs to strip their equipped items for the taking (ON by default)
  • Adds an additional button/prompt when looting dead NPCs to loot all items in 1 button press to the player (ON by default)
  • If "Loot All" is enabled to go to party members, there will be an additional button when approaching them to add them to the list of loot recipients
  • Dead stripped NPCs in harsh environmental conditions can show visual effects after approx. 5sec (ON by default)
  • Dead stripped NPCs in harsh environmental conditions can show long-term decay of corpses after approx. 5mins (OFF by default as the visuals are pretty basic)
  • Overrides the "pick-pocketing" from unconscious targets to just steal the items (ON by default) - although equipped armor and clothing cannot be obtained
  • Does not require any special hotkey mapping or console commands
  • Only affects normal human adults - kids, old corpses and most crowd NPCs are unaffected

This Mod Does not:
  • Does not change any other skills
  • Does not change any detection or stealth mechanics
  • Does not change loot tables - the extra available loot is stuff already equipped on the NPCs
  • Does not affect kids, old corpses, and most crowd NPCs

Known Issues
Known issues I am currently aware of:
  • Sometimes when re-visiting an area where you have stripped NPCs, they appear to be just floating heads. This is hopefully fixed/improved in the latest version, but is something I can't replicate in my own game. It comes down to a game mechanic where NPCs (including dead ones) need to have a spacesuit equipped when in harsh environments - somehow this means that the game will only render clothing tagged as being a spacesuit and thus won't even render a naked body. I force the NPCs to equip a "naked" spacesuit to get around this, but for some reason they were randomly un-equipping at later times. Hopefully this is fixed now.
  • Duplicate armor items - not a mod issue, see the related FAQ below...

F.A.Q.
To save us both some time, here are some Frequently Asked Questions, and the current state of the answers...
  • What load order do I need to use?
Any load order is fine, there are no dependencies

  • Nothing happened when I installed the mod?
Did you wait long enough? After first installing, it can take 10-30sec when loading your save for this mod to become active and functioning. The same goes for most mods, and you should ideally only install mods when your character is in a quiet place with minimal NPCs or activity going on nearby.

  • Can we change the buttons?
Unfortunately not. For maximum game version and mod compatibility I utilise in-built functionality to enable additional buttons via perks when certain conditions are met. From what I can tell, there is no way to change which buttons are used, and there is a maximum of 4 buttons allowed when approaching something that can be activated, the game just uses whatever buttons are mapped to these buttons in this order...
    • "activate/use/talk"
    • "reload/transfer"
    • "jump"
    • "crouch"

  • Can you make it like Skyrim and Fallout where it just changes what the NPCs are wearing based on what you pick up?
Unfortunately not. For some reason a design change was made in Starfield where you cannot loot equipped armor or clothing from NPCs, and thus no stream-lined immersive gradual removal. There has been other mods such as Stripping Armor that implemented this with some success using the script extender (SFSE) but some game updates broke these mods, requiring multiple fixes. Hopefully they will make a comeback as I much prefer the way that loot worked in Fallout 4 and these SFSE mods enable it. But my mod will stick to vanilla game functionality in order to keep it working and supportable through the various game updates and expansions. BTW the armor / spacesuits you can sometimes loot from NPCs are in fact a duplicate the game spawns into their inventory, but they do not equip it. This is also why in the vanilla you would sometimes loot some armor that looks different to what the NPC appears to be wearing... it is actually a different piece.

  • Why am I getting sometimes getting duplicate items?
I'm hoping to implement a workaround for this in future, but as mentioned above, in the base game the armor / spacesuits you can sometimes loot from NPCs are in fact a duplicate the game spawns into their inventory, but they do not equip it. This is also why in the vanilla you would sometimes loot some armor that looks different to what the NPC appears to be wearing... it is actually a different piece, and there is a specific game setting to modify the chance of this occurring - mods like NPCs Always Drop Equipped Armors change this setting and could be considered an alternative to this mod. All rare, epic, legendary armor items also fall into this category and the NPC does not use/equip these items - they are spawned in for for the player to loot.

  • This mod broke my game!
No it didn't. This mod does not edit any existing game items or records, it only creates some new ones. The Unconscious NPC looting feature does override the default pick-pocketing of unconscious NPCs, but does not edit or modify pick-pocketing or the perks behind it, and if you turn this feature off, then there is nothing overridden at all by this mod.

ToDo
In a future update I hope to implement:
  • Stripping of old corpses
  • Better long-term environmental effects on stripped corpses - fire, ice, acid
  • Some kind of damaged armor looting and repairing system

Installation/Upgrade
Just install or upgrade with your favourite Mod Organiser - safe to do at any time - everything should automatically load within 10-20sec of loading your save.

Mod support now enabled in the base game, no other requirements.

Those who manually installed (why?) previous versions will need to delete the SIIL_ files in the Data\Scripts folder when updating to latest.

Troubleshooting
A few people seem to encounter an issue where the mod doesn't automatically start correctly.
Please always ensure you are in a quite place, with minimal NPCs nearby, out of combat when installing ANY mods - this also applies to any other game.
You are just asking for trouble otherwise. This ensures the relevant plugin engine and scripting VM are in a stable state when adding new content.

As of v3, the options and settings for this mod are available via the "Gameplay Options" menu in the pause menu. You must be in a loaded save, not at the main title menu when first loading the game. Changing any settings relating to this mod will trigger a refresh of all this mod's settings and features upon exiting the menu and returning to your game.

Furthermore, you can also craft the info slate at an Industrial Workbench if you don't already have one - reading the slate will show info similar to this mod page, and also trigger a refresh of all this mod's settings and features upon exiting the inventory menus.

Compatibility
In case it isn't obvious - it would be a BAD idea to combine with another mod that does also strips/removes clothing, but nothing game breaking will occur - it'll just be weird.

  • Pair it up with any other stealth or skill overhaul - they should all be fine
  • Mods that modify loot tables - should all be fine
  • Mods that modify drop chances may spawn extra items, depending on how they are implemented - but should all be fine

Pairs very well with my Stealth Takedowns mod.

Uninstallation

Should be pretty safe to remove if need be, but any stripped NPCs in a hostile atmosphere may have an invisible body / floating head until they de-spawn or the cell/area resets.

For maximum compatibility & safety - if you wish to remove the mod, go to an area that does not have NPCs you have looted first, and save. Then load this save once you've removed the mod.
