Either I couldn't find a way to holster the Cutter in Handscanner mode after taking it out or there's no way to do it in the vanilla game...
So.. I made a simple SFSE plugin that holsters the Cutter when the player presses the Reload ('R') key.
Custom Reload key:
The default key is the 'R' key (key code 0x52, see Win32 virtual key codes). You can change the key in the INI:
..\Starfield\Data\SFSE\Plugins\SheatheWeaponInHandscanner.ini
The plugin rereads the .ini when the MainMenu is closed (usually after selecting a save game to load) and when the PauseMenu is opened (usually with Esc) so you can quickly edit it in game.
