Hate the temple grind? Me too. 



The temple puzzles are bland enough that doing 24 temples to unlock every power already borders on a questionable degree of repetition. Now, having to do 240 temples to max your powers is utterly inane. The power upgrade mechanic in vanilla might as well not exist because nobody wants to endure this sisyphean tedium. This mod aims to fix this temple-power gameplay loop without breaking or making redundant any vanilla mechanics. Powers will now upgrade automatically with NG+, while temples will grant quantum essence instead of power upgrades. 


Simple Temple Overhaul 
  • Temples will no longer rank up your powers. Each temple will only grant their power the first time you visit them.
  • Subsequent visits to temples containing unlocked powers will now grant 2 Quantum Essence instead.
  • Powers scale with NG+. Acquired powers will upgrade by one rank each time you cross into Unity. 
  • Do each temple once, not 10 times. Grow more powerful with each NG+ universe.
  • Lightweight & Compatible. Safe to install/uninstall whenever you want.


This mod eliminates the tedium of the 240 temple grind and incentivizes NG+ playthroughs by rewarding players for hopping into Unity. Temples only have to be done once to unlock powers, after that the temples are purely optional resource farms for Quantum Essence.
Further complement your NG+ experience with my other mod, NG+ Fixes And Improvements, which fixes the NG+ bug that prevents you from opening the inventory or saving the game.



Note: the end of the video shows a placeholder debug message, "giving player 2 quantum essence". Be reassured that the release build has a much more immersive message that fits the vanilla style, "You have gained 2 Quantum Essence". I just did not want to re-edit the video to remove the old debug msg from the video.


FAQ
Q: What if I still have locked powers in NG+?
A: You can obtain the powers normally in NG+ by finding their respective temples. Powers are not retroactively scaled, i.e. if you unlock Phase Time in NG+3 you will receive Phase Time I and not Phase Time IV.
 
Q: Quantum Essence values are broken after doing a temple. You broke my game.
A: I did but it is sort of Bethesda's fault. The QuantumEssence AV behaves in an unexpected manner and using ModValue on it utterly breaks it and causes nonsensical values.
To fix this bug, update to version 1.3 or later and then go to a temple and gain essence from it. This will correct the QuantumEssence value.  

Q: My powers increased twice.
A: This happens if you install version 2.0 without uninstalling the MQ305 script from older versions. This probably happened because you manually installed this mod. See, manual installation is a bad idea.



Installation: 
Pick one main file.
Version 2 of this mod contains an esm plugin, while the pluginfree version 1.3 edits MQ305script instead of using a plugin. 
Most players should choose Version 2, but you can use Version 1.3 if you want to save a plugin slot and if you do not have other mods editing MQ305script.
As with every other mod, archive invalidation in ini is required.
Install with mo2/vortex/manual/dyson vacuum/whatever.
Manual install not recommended.
Safe to install whenever. 


Compatibility
This mod currently edits the 'artifactpower_advancement' script - it should be compatible with anything that does not modify this file. 
The optional pluginfree version of this mod edits MQ305script. This is not ideal for compatibility, but the advantage of this version is that it does not require a plugin slot.



Compatible with No More Temple Puzzles, and Undiscovered Temple Fix
Compatible with my death mod Quantum Immortality  - resetting the universe through dying will not rank up your powers. This is intentional. 
Mildly incompatible with
 Starborn Bounty - killed starborn will give new powers but wont upgrade them. I sent the author a compatibility patch.
