Play as Mad Mike, aka Mike Hughes Hawk. He's the awesomest fellow in the galaxy. No need to grind = Mad Mike is already Max Level with every Perk. He starts with no special items, but he has some cash in his pocket. He's at the beginning of the game, ready to begin. Modelled on Todd Howard, aesthetically.

I cannot believe how much more fun I have had playing as Captain Mike Hughes Hawk compared to my last guy Mike Big Hawk.
You start in the Mine, below where you've been woken up after the tutorial. Either take the elevator back up and start the game as normal or better yet poke around the mine first and do some mining = all the nodes on the wall are basically untapped and they're worth getting.
