Hi this may be a dumb question but are the animals ages go by the 'months old' they are? I was wondering since some o my cows and chickens that I have set or two years die within one year or don't make it past ten or eleven months. I have minimum and maximum set to 2 years as well. Any thoughts?
it's supposed to be years. did the death message say it was old age? did the day count in the death message align with the amount of days you think you had the animal? (you can use smapi save backups to revert to a day where an animal was about to die). actually getting that save file would also be useful if you can upload it somewhere.
sorry for the inconvenience. at least it's not an extreme difference due to a game breaking bug like death after a week, but still this should not happen. I'll check that minimum age = maximum age doesn't lead to any issues, like decreasing minimum age by one (which would be really dumb by me)
maybe the death counter increases twice a day. I had a check in place to prevent that, but maybe it stopped working (sometimes the day update call happens more than once a day).
Hello thanks to responding! So let me try to understand one month equals on year? The die message did seem to align but it seemed a bit to early still. Don't blame yourself, it might be my fault, let me try to revert and upload my save. And I will see if the maximum and the minimum are different years maybe that will help as it could be defaulting to 1 year with min set to 2years and max set to 2years. Don't worry I'm not upset or too bothered just wondering :)
a month is a season, so a year is 4 seasons (spring to winter)
also I read your message wrong yesterday, since when reading eleven months I thought that a year had 12 months, but obviously it just has 4.
the most interesting thing would be if you can figure out if it triggers twice a day, but I don't think the config gives you enough tools to debug that without skipping an entire year. I also have extended debug logs that show up when you enable verbose logging in smapi, so you can try enabling those to see in the console or log file what my mod is doing. there is not that much related to age though (only eating, water, illness and death), as the popup the player gets contains most information (but only on death)
Thank you for your explanation. I understand better now :) I will do the test with the extensive log and see what I can come up with, just in curiosity. Thanks again for the help.
How does this interact with (or not interact with) mods that add new types of barn/coop for different animals? For instance, The Bees Knees adds a giant apiary for giant bees or A New Dream (or maybe ClownCore?) adds a Tropical Hutch for keeping thylacines or something idk.
if the custom animal implements the 'FarmAnimal' class then my mod will affect it. if the animal house is not a coop or barn, the config values for the barn will be used
my github only contains my source code, not a compiled functioning version of my mod. please download the mod from here, the files tab of nexus, and if you are using vortex mod manager please redeploy in case it messed up loading all the files
"The 'Animals Need Water' mod is no longer being updated. Is there any alternative available, or can I continue to install 'Animals Need Water' and expect it to work properly?"
it's not. the mod author is around though, so it may be updated in the near future. if not, the permission settings allow others to fix it. I may even add it to this mod if the author is okay with that. for now, do not use it
I haven't had a chance to try this mod yet bc i just downloaded it but i love the idea of it. It makes the game so much more realistic and I am very much looking forward to trying this out!
thank you! I'm currently not actively modding stardew. as is tradition, I can only stay interested in modding the same game for about one or two months in a row before taking a break. if I'm doing maintenance on my mods in the near future, this mod is not very high on my priority list. I hope you can still enjoy this mod as is. if there are any issues, please let me know

- Animals Die - Old Age, Hunger, Illness 1.7.2 because its DLL 'AnimalsDie.dll' doesn't exist.
I downloaded your mod here or maybe github about 20 mins ago. I didn't touch the file.
