I'm not expecting anyone to read this, but... Are there any newer mods of this type? I'm assuming this one doesn't work any more, not having been updated for three years.

I can confirm that it is still working in Stardew Valley 1.6.2.  :)

can you explain to me in the simplest way what this mod does? what is a permutation? does this changes icons for any vanilla game items?

It lets you individually change whether each Forage item is a Fruit, Vegetable, or Flower.
If something is a Fruit or Vegetable, it can processed with the Preserves Jar and the Keg like any other Fruit or Vegetable.
By default, the mod makes 13 of the Forage items into Vegetables and 2 of them into Flowers.

The mod doesn't change the appearances of any items, but it has an optional patch for the mod "Better Artisan Good Icons" ("BAGI", for short), and that patch makes any Wine, Juice, Jelly, or Pickles made with the Forage items have colors similar to the Forage item used to make it.

      Example:
By default, the mod changes Purple Mushrooms into Vegetables, so you can turn them into Juice or Pickles.
If you have the BAGI patch and make Juice from a Purple Mushroom, the bottle of Purple Mushroom Juice will be purple instead of green.

I'm having trouble getting this mod to install properly. I've extracted the files to the mod folder both manually and with Nexus Mod Manager, but whenever I start up the game it does not seem to have installed properly. The items affected by this mod still say "Forage". Am I missing a step?

      I'm not sure.
Make sure that SMAPI and Content Patcher are up to date (It may be an API problem); then, forage a new forage item without any forage in your inventory (The Forage tag may be a visual bug).
Beyond that... If the tooltip still says Forage, try putting it in a Preserves Jar or Keg. The Forage tag may still be a visual bug.
If it doesn't work at all, and everything else is up to date and working, I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Question: does this mod affect Foraging exp gains?  Do the reclassified items still grant Foraging exp when picked up, or no?  Great mod, by the way, I enjoyed using it last time I played SDV!

It shouldn't affect XP gains, afaik.
It should just be the standard 7 XP per item (and 3 XP for Spr.Onions; they're implemented slightly differently from other forage), regardless of the configuration of this mod.
Besides, the Summer forage already covers, like, ~6 different item types, including Fruits, Vegetables, and Flowers, so I don't think item type factors into the XP gains. Again, afaik.
I may be wrong. I'm fairly confident, but I may be wrong.
(Sorry for the very late reply.)

I just downloaded the mod but the mushrooms are still forage. I suppose the mod is outdated.

Edit: A new version of Content Patcher just came out one day after I downloaded it. Now this mod works fine.

I'm going to do some more testing, back later. Can't seem to get this to work so far.

EDIT: OK I got it. It is working, but it doesn't use the same visual cues as usual. EG usually when you hover something over a machine, you get a big bright green PLUS sign when you can click it in. This never happens with any of the forage items you've recategorized, the icon just goes from a little transparent to not transparent - easy to miss if you're focused on watching for the green PLUS sign. Because most machines have a sweet spot that is about half the size of the machine's picture, that PLUS sign has been a big help. Now I'll just remember to watch for the icon to change from transparent to opaque.

Would there be any way to recategorize Sap under the 'Resource' label that stone and wood fall under?

Love the mod - thank you!

The BAGI patch folder was locked when I first tried to open it. I had to go in and manually change the permissions to be able to look in the folder. I've never had that happen downloading a mod, so maybe something happened by accident when zipping it? I tried downloading it again and had the same issue happen. Just thought I'd let you know!

      uhhh??????? What?
      Lemme check this...
      Windows Explorer? Works.
      WinRAR? Works.
      7-Zip? Works.

My only suggestions would have to be: Either download it a third time, as it could've been a brief Nexus issue, or download it from my Google Drive under Mirrors and see if that works.

How do you enable the hazelnuts and sea weed etc? ATM they don't go into the preserves jar etc.

Also, I don't suppose you'd consider re categorizing Dandelions as a vegetable rather than a flower? The roots, stems, flowers and leaves can all be used as vegetables and are suitable for pickling.

    thanks!

In the "[CP] More Than Forage" folder, there is a file called "config.json" if you have run the game with the mod at least once.
Option 1: Opening "config.json" with Notepad or equivalent, you will see a list of variables marked as "true" or "false". Replacing "false" with "true" next to a change you want will enable it.
Option 2: If you want every change enabled, you can just delete "config.json" and rename "config-all-enabled.json" to "config.json". This enables every change.

As for the alternate recategorization... Sure. I was thinking of expanding the options in the mod.
I might not get around to it immediately, but I will definitely keep your request in mind.

      Awesome! Thanks so much!.

A few thoughts if you decide to exapnd this further

-Sap - Tree sap is used in many cultures to make an alcoholic beverage called Toddy
-Coconuts can be used to make oil
-Hazelnuts, Acorns and Pine Cones can be used to make nut oil
-Maple Syrup could be used to make Maple Wine or Maple Butter
-Mixed Seeds could be used to make Wild Ale or Hedgerow ale (many weeds are grasses with edible seeds, some were crops once like crabgrass, or wild oats which could be used to make beers)
-Winter Roots and Cave Carrots could be used to make Root Ales
-Snow Yams could be used to make Sweet Potato Beer
-Fish (not really forage I know) could be put in the Preserves Jar to make Artisanal Fish sauce.

Hope I'm not overstepping, just some stuff I've always thought about this game.
Thanks again for making the change to Dandelions!

    Hey, everyone!
Let me know if you encounter any issues with the new version!
This mod update (v2.1.0) was another big one, and, while I have a better track record with Stardew than RimWorld, I still don't fully trust myself to not mess *anything* up.
So, ah, just let me know if any configurations are mismatched or anything like that, and I'll fix any issues on my end and push a new version.
    'kay? 'kay.
    Have a nice day.
