I have done an unofficial update of Sorren. I basically spent 3 days looking through SDV servers and the modding wiki (which were all very helpful) and rewrote the code from the ground up to be up to date with 1.6 as near as I could manage.
DISCLAIMER: I have not managed to figure out the Spouse Room yet (it's in the mod, but sadly the only guide I could find for converting no longer seems to work in 1.6), but he should be going to Festivals and having dialogue there. I did not change any dialogue or add anything! So he's not going to show up to any new events nor mention them, etc.
Also, I haven't been able to test everything so I can't promise it works perfectly! This is my very first time doing this. However, it loads into SMAPI with CP just fine other than a yellow warning that it can't read the Spouse Room. Dialogue, Festivals, etc. all seem to be viable and loading without error!
So, TL:DR = Unofficial Sorren Update . Nothing new was added since I didn't have permission and 110% credit goes to the original author. I just updated the mod to 1.6.
4/3/24 - Okay, version 3.x (I lost count)! I have not been able to test every event, BUT Sorren is visible, works with Slightly Cuter Sorren sprites (if anyone was curious), has a schedule and you can talk/interact (gift) with him! So progress! If anyone has any issues, let me know and I'll see what I can do!
I haven't tested much yet. I have run it through the SMAPI JSON validator to make sure everything is good through there at least.
I'm not really experienced at modding so I don't know the tricks to get events to run without just going all the way through the mod. Basically, I just have to sit down and play a bit. If anyone wants to test it out and see if it works.
My SMAPI is giving me a warning whenever i try to use your update:
[Content Patcher] 'Sorren - Original NPC' has multiple patches with the 'Exclusive' priority which load the 'Characters/Sorren' asset at the same time (Sorren - Original NPC > Base Sprites, Sorren - Original NPC > Beach Sprites). None will be applied. You should report this to the content pack author.
When I load up my save file, Sorren sprites does not show up at all, so he's pretty much invisible. I tested it with my full modlist + mod manager and also just with the Sorren mod and its requirements installed and no mod manager, and I got the same results :(
Hmm, when I load it by itself, that error isn't coming up at all? So I'm not sure.
If you're using TMXLoader, you don't need that. The only requirements for the one I shared at Content Patcher and SMAPI.
You might try a manual install if you're using Vortex perhaps? I don't use it, but I've heard that Vortex can cause issues with SDV mods. Maybe do a full delete and a clean reinstall?
Also, if it's an OLD save that you have with him (from pre-1.6), I don't think it will work anymore. 1.6 mods don't roll back as I understand it. If it's a save from after 1.6, but started with the original Sorren mod, I don't believe it will work either. I had to change quite a bit of the coding so I think that would cause issues as well.
Sorry I'm not more help. I'm still pretty new at this. I'm going to play some SDV tonight and see how he runs for me.
Thanks for the reply and for your help! I didn't use TMX Loader, but since the warning only shows up when I load a game ( 1.6, but had the original mod in it), I might try a new game when I get the chance to see If the warning is still there :)
Yes, I THINK that might be the problem. Not 100% sure, but the new one I updated is specifically for 1.6. So it makes sense it might cause an error. The language of the mods changed with 1.6.
Sorry for bothering, but I had no luck x_x I did a clean reinstall (uninstalled via steam and then deleted the game folder afterwards, as there were SMAPI files and reshade files that steam didn't really fully delete) and then installed just the required mods (no mod manager this time), started a new game and basically skipped all days by sleeping, up until day 5, when Sorren actually shows up in town. As soon as day 5 started, SMAPI gave me the same error as before. And since this is pretty much just vanilla, I would assume testing with all my other mods wouldn't make a difference either.
I'm not sure how to use Portraiture, but you can use the "replacer" method.
Just unzip mine, open the assets and then the images folder, make sure the replacer is named SorrenPortraits, and just drop it into the folder. When it asks if you want to replace the files, just say yes and it should be good be good to go.
You shouldn't need to use anything that's PTYK as I understand it's no longer necessary.
I'm also unable to update Sorren's DC Burger portrait to the new update. The image is there in game but it's VERY zoomed in. :( I've been trying to figure out what in the mod adjusts the size of the image in game, but I've been unable to find it. I've also tried resizing the image itself but that didn't work either :( Please help if you have time <3
It has full instructions on the page on how to install it and notes you don't need PtyK. So you can use the old pictures but have to follow the new updated instructions and directions. I don't use it so I don't have much experience, but that should be able to help you.
I am working on a Content Patcher version of Sorren's Festival Locations. I believe it is close to being done, just working on some weird errors. Hopefully I can post a link to it here when it is done. EDIT: I did it! I converted Sorren's TMXL Festival Locations to Content Patcher! Now you don't need TMXL any more! Ah, but I was only able to make it work when you have Stardew Valley Expanded LOL. Not sure if it works without, but well, anyway, here it is! MAKE SURE YOU MEET HIM BEFORE A FESTIVAL, OR ELSE HE WON'T SHOW UP TO THE FESTIVALS! :> (I haven't done his spouse room yet but that will be next lmao)
I've done an independent CP version of the festival locations a few weeks ago, and made the updated spouse room map edits tonight (just needs the CP code!) I was going to come here when both were done and see if I can get ahold of annachibi about updating the mod pack, but I ran into a couple of questions I wanted to ask them.
Edit: I didn't realize at first you made it as a separate mod. I'm working on a larger update bundle that includes Sorren, the festivals, and the spouse room.

I reached until day five (WITHOUT THE MOD INSTALLED!!) when the game saved in day five, i reinstalled the mod, enter to CP Sorren Original NPC - content.json and replaced BoardingHouse to Custom_BoardingHouse_BoardingHouse, then, i saved the txt and entered the game again.
If you using OrangePie's protrait, don't use the aditional file of it!! (SorrenPortraits.pytk.json) it glitches Sorren's sprite, if you already did, just delete it and keep the png. replaced!
The change needs to be made in Boarding House's content.json, right? I can't find any instance of BoardingHouse (not Custom_BoardingHouse_BoardingHouse) in that file.
As far as I know, you can't lock the farmer out of the room unless you edit the boarding house mod's tiles, which I don't consider important enough to do myself.

The most recent update has him visible, his schedule loaded, his dialogue going, and his gift-giving working fine when I tested!

So hopefully I finally figured out the code. Most of it was just old lines that aren't necessary in 1.6. I think some of the guides I used were older.
Second, have you found a way to use OrangePie's DCBurger style Sorren Portrait at Stardew Valley Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com) with your version?
