go into the game files of stardew and click onto the portrait folder. Copy and paste the mod portraits into it (Replace the game files with the mod files) you do not need smapi
After the latest Stardew Valley update some characters have different portraits now. So characters like Sam, Penny, Maru, Elliot, and Haley aren't compatible with this mod anymore. It works on the other bachelors and bachelorettes, but until this mod gets updated those 5 characters can't have this portrait mod :/

the new update use editimage action instead of load the whole xnb file
