Details:
Crows will be notorious for their indiscriminate thievery, snatching up a variety of items across Stardew Valley. They target buildings, objects, debris, terrain features like trees, fences, flooring, grass and crops, as well as resource clumps such as stumps, logs, meteorites and boulders. However, they only pilfer resource clumps if the player's tools meet the required upgrade level; otherwise, it would be too easy. Additionally, furniture is not safe from their grasp.
New feature: Animals can now be stolen. The player's inventory is now susceptible to theft including money.
Certain structures, including the farmhouse, shipping bin, pet bowl and greenhouse, are exempt from theft. Likewise, specific objects like the Mushroom Box in the Farm Cave and Feed hoppers inside the barn and coop remain untouched. Non-playable characters such as your children, pets and other villagers are not subject to theft (children are abductable as of version 1.4.0). The player character is also immune to abduction. The goal is not to make the game difficult, but rather enjoyable.
Players have a grace period of 5 days to establish their farm and reach Farming Level 1, providing them with the opportunity to craft scarecrows. Scarecrows are the sole defense against the marauding crows. Interestingly, even scarecrows themselves are not immune to theft unless protected by another scarecrow.
Crows will only visually appear on the farm. This is to prevent long loading times when transitioning to a new day.
As of version 1.4.0 you can configure the number of crows that will descend upon your farm, adjust the length of the grace period before the crows arrive, specify what elements they will be targeting for theft, and even exclude specific items from their pilfering. Simply launch the game once, and the configuration file will be automatically generated within the mod directory.
Hint:
- Establish a secured area on your farm early and set up a tree nursery. Once the crows start, acquiring tree seeds will become almost impossible.
- Incubators within the barn and coop can be stolen. Protect this object, or your building will become useless.
- If something is wearing a hat and gets stolen, the hat is gone forever. So be careful with the unique hats.
