Ahoy ahoy! Park Jaemin is a sailor who was recently discharged from the Navy. His friend Willy invited him to stay at the fish shop in Pelican Town, so he moved in for a long-term visit. He was born in the Gotoro Empire, but immigrated to the Ferngill Republic at a young age. He’s best friends with Alex, but it soon becomes evident that he feels something more… 

Jaemin is a rival for Alex. Meaning, he is not dateable, and over the course of his and Alex’s story, Alex will become undateable as well. Once this happens, there are no takesies backsies - there is no way to break them up.  If your heart is set on romancing Alex, this is probably not the mod for you - but, you can still date and marry Alex as long as you give him the bouquet before their 6-heart event.

There are several phases to Alex and Jaemin’s relationship, with unique dialogue and schedule changes for each phase. For more details, please see the schedule and heart events sections below.

Jaemin attends all vanilla festivals.

⚠️ Content warnings: Jaemin’s story, through his day-to-day dialogue and heart events, touches on themes of anti-Asian (or the Stardew equivalent) sentiment and homophobia. If you do not want to see these topics in your game, please do not install this mod.

This is the Beta version of this mod, so I would really appreciate any and all feedback! It can be anything from bugs like events not triggering when they are supposed to, dialogue referring to the incorrect relationship status (e.g. talking about unrequited feelings when married), to subjective things like “the dialogue feels repetitive” or “His schedule is too complicated.” In particular, I have only tested in vanilla Stardew, so it would be cool if you could let me know if you have any issues with SVE or other expansion mods. Thank you for helping me test this mod! 
(By the way, you may notice that some of his sprites seem incomplete, such as his fishing sprite - this is currently intentional. I was originally going to make a supplementary mod to enable the big sprites, but I’m told that 1.6 will add support for this, so I’m just going to wait for that to come out instead.)

⚠️ NOTE: Adding Jaemin to an existing save file may trigger a bug where he doesn't follow his schedule until you talk to him for the first time. So if he seems to be stuck in the Fish Shop for you, try talking to him and see if that resolves the problem.

If you are ever unsure where either of them are, you can type "debug where Jaemin/Alex" in the SMAPI console and it should tell you.

For couple events, both Jaemin and Alex must have the required number of hearts. Several of these couple events comprise the “main story events,” which are marked below. These main story events are what move the story forward in terms of dialogue and schedule changes.

There are also some events that are not main story events. They may add to the story or give further details about the characters, but are not strictly necessary to understand the story. Some of these side story events are tied to the phase of the story they occur in, meaning it is possible to miss them if you trigger the next main story cutscene. The scenes that are missable are marked below.

Gift tastes for the new recipes: All villagers have their own preferences for the new recipes, but by default most of them like the new dishes since cooking is a universal like. Here's the preferences for Alex, Jaemin, George and Evelyn:
Planned future updates:

• While I consider the main storyline to be complete, I have a few more events in mind to show their dynamic as a couple, as well as a couple more events for Jaemin to integrate him more with the other villagers; in particular, events between Jaemin and Sam's family
• Supplementary mod to enable Jaemin to change into his swimsuit and use the spa and other misc. little details like that
• Big sprites (once 1.6 is out)
• Continued improvements on dialogue, art, etc.
• Enable event for Jaemin to leave town if player starts dating Alex
• Figure out how to remove Alex from the Flower Dance while not leaving Haley hanging lol
  

Possible future updates:

• Further story progression, such as adopting a child, etc.
• Seasonal outfits and portraits, but the pixel art was really painful for me so idk lol

Incompatibilities: 

• Other rival relationship mods for Alex, such as Life Cycle or Ridgeside Rivals
• Other mods that alter Alex's schedules and dialogue - not strictly incompatible per se, but I'm not sure how they would interact, and some of it might not make sense, such as if another mod makes him flirtier at 8 hearts but he's married to Jae.
• Should work with SREO, but make sure to turn off the saloon room setting for this mod.
• This mod includes some new sprites and portraits for Alex, which are based on the vanilla assets. If you have portrait or sprite replacements, the mod won’t break your game, but where those extra sprites and portraits are used, they will match the vanilla look instead of whatever replacement you’re using. These extra sprites and portraits are not used very frequently, so it shouldn’t be an issue in day-to-day play.
• As of 0.3.0, Jaemin should now be compatible with Stardew Valley Expanded and the mobile phone mod! Please let me know if you experience any issues.
