I think it would be neat if this was similar to Pam's house where Linus would start with the tent, and later you can choose to build the house for him. Then afterwards he can thank you, admitting that he didn't really choose to live in the tent but that he simply fell on hard times and had no other choice. He would then be very grateful for his dignity being restored.
Doesn't this mod seriously conflict with Linus' life choices? If you pay attention to his dialogue you learn that he chooses to live like this. Even though nobody agree's with them or likes him. The player's Character doesn't, he/she just befriends him.
By making/using this mod don't you force your will upon him because "you know better"? The way I see it, he's already lived the life you are trying to force him into. And he wasn't happy living that life.
Do I agree with his choice? No. Is it my place to judge him for it? No. Is it my place to live his life for him? No.
And Yes, I always do get WAY to into the games I love.
In a way you're right but that still doesn't mean the mod shouldn t exist for those who want to put a roof over his head. I just headcanon that my farmer saved up some supplies and money after befriending Linus to give him a small shack so he won't get sick in the winter. It's far enough from society that he can still live his hermit life and simple enough that it isn't too much for him.
But again, it's a fictional character so this is just my personal headcanon.
If it helps your immersion, you can think of it as a toned down example of what he's like in canon. He's still unemployed and isolating himself outside of town, but he's chosen to live in a handmade cabin instead of a tent. He still lives life his way, disregarding a job and security for hunting/scavenging and freedom, he just has sturdier walls while doing so.
Yea I agree too, but some people prefer for him to have a house. (Linus said that he wanted to live like this, saying he hated living in, e.g., a house)
I'm thinking exactly the same as you do, and can't decide whether I should download this mod. It pains me to think how cold it must be in winter for him, sleeping on the ground in a tent, but I do not want to force him to live a life he doesn't want, it's a dilemma.
Thats why i use this mod but i changed the map in tiled to use a recolored festival tent instead! That way he gets lots of room! A little chimney and a small "portable" kitchen!
I don't think it necessarily conflicts with his choices. Reading his cut scenes, it's very clear that he wants to live by himself in the wilderness, foraging for his own food. But there's nothing saying that he specifically wants to be living in a tent rather than a tiny cabin. In fact, I'd argue that the dialogue implies otherwise. When he is in the spa and says "even someone like me needs to warm up inside now and then" ....it seems to me that being able to do that in the privacy of his own cabin is preferable to going to the local spa, where he has Alex and his nasty attitude to homeless people walking past him every day. Similarly, having someone throwing rocks at his tent seemed to make him feel very vulnerable and sad. A cabin would give him a better sense of security. Likewise when he says that "sleeping on the ground is good for my back....you have to look at the bright side" to me implies that he is making the best of an uncomfortable situation, not that it's his preference. If I'm wrong and he genuinely likes sleeping on the ground instead of a bed, he can always keep sleeping on the ground inside his nice warm cabin. Ideally, I'd like this to be an in game option and have some dialogue to confirm that this is done with Linus's consent. But in the meanwhile I think it's a good way to make him more comfy while still respecting his preferred way of life.
I may have overthought this a bit. My Dad spent the last few years of his life living in the middle of nowhere and getting very grumpy with anyone who tried to pressure him to live closer to people. He was very protective of his privacy and autonomy, and was also very good at "roughing it" due to a lifetime of adventures in the wilderness. But he appreciated basic creature comforts such as a working stove and a bed. I expect Linus would be much the same, and while he defends his right to privacy and autonomy, I doubt he would object to being a little more physically comfortable in a way he can control.
the poor dude lives behind the carpenter's house/shop and she couldn't be generous enough to build him a small hut. that has always upset me thank you for this mod!
Why should she? Especially for someone who chose this live by themself? Did you ever see his 8 hearts event? The 8 hearts event also includes Robin. Once you see it you will know why he stays in his tent.
That event only came out recently with the 1.3 patch. Before it wasn't made nearly as explicit that Linus was so passionate about living without a conventional home.
Nor was it clear that Robin was more than willing to build him one, whenever he wanted, if only he asked for it.
This could probably use a slightly AU-Linus dialogue mod. Cause he spends a lot time talking about how important living without walls is to him. There's an entire cutscene as of 1.3 dedicated to him feeling dejected at the very suggestion of getting a house. That's got to be so jarring if your using this, having no doubt head-canoned him into a more house-friendly guy.
i have a problem with it not working when starting smapi the loading happens fine but on the bottom i get this: [Content Patcher] Patch error A House for Linus Load CharactersschedulesLinus has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assetsschedulesLinus.xnb'. [Content Patcher] Patch error A House for Linus Load MapsMountain has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assetsMountain.xnb'. [Content Patcher] Patch error A House for Linus Load MapsTent has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assetsTent.xnb'. I just thought that might help for any bug fixes.
I built this out of in-game tiles. Marnie's Ranch is the only house built out of separate tiles instead of a picture so that's what I used since my skill level is still pretty basic. It was my first mod after all.
I stopped playing (and modding) the game ages ago. So I just saw this now. In any case this was my first mod and the schedule never worked. It would still clash with any 1.3 updates anyway so it's good that it never worked to begin with.
