For anyone new to modding Stardew Valley: This is a Content Patcher mod, which is safe install & uninstall. You need SMAPI for that to work. Don't worry it's painless to install and standard. Everyone modding should use SMAPI, and Content Patcher for that matter.
If you see an older mod that uses .xnb, assume they will either no longer work or break something in your game. However, for simpler mods like this it's very easy to convert them to working Content Patcher mods, check it's download page or HERE.

Nevermind, they are working using the updated content patcher version provided by Aiyamiki in the comment, despite me getting an error message from SMAPI 🤔
Looks like this is incompatible with the new 1.5 update, since the update adds new critters. ;__; The CP version just replaces the entire sheet, so the content.json would have to be restructured to replace the individual butterfly sprites...
It's a pain, but you can use another loader and copy/paste the butterflies you want over other ones. You just have to line them up correctly and save with the transparency intact. I use Elle's Town Animals as my loader. You can disable everything else if all you want is your butterflies, and you can either select the specific butterflies you want, or random any of them. :)

Hi, I've made a Custom Critters (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1255/?tab=description) version of this mod. Would it be okay to upload it, as it's compatible with the newest version of the game? (I'd obviously keep your names as the original modders, and reference back to here.)
I have created a Nexus page for the Custom Critters version. If either of Campanulamis or eemie are not okay with this, I am very happy to take it down.
These are so beautiful!! I'm making a custom critters mod with a thousand butterflies - could I possibly use these sprites as part of it, crediting and linking to this of course? Thanks again for sharing these!

seems the original file is .xnb and the .png conversions below replace the ENTIRE critter file.
So:

This replaces only the butterflies, any other critters in the file will be whatever you would usually get.
