About this mod

Place a chest next to a machine (like a furnace or crystalarium), and the machine will automatically pull raw items from the chest and push processed items into it. Connect multiple machines with a chest to create factories.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Donations
Put a chest next to any number of machines (like furnaces or crystalariums), and they'll take raw items from the chest and push their finished items into it. Press U (configurable) to show an automation overlay:

  1. Install the latest version of SMAPI.
  2. Unzip the mod folder into Stardew Valley/Mods.
  3. Run the game using SMAPI.

  • Works with Stardew Valley 1.2 and 1.3 beta on Linux/Mac/Windows.
  • Works in single-player and multiplayer. (In multiplayer, only the main player can automate machines. Other players can keep it installed and use the overlay.)
  • No known mod conflicts. Can be used with custom machine mods, but the custom machines won't be automated.

Suggested extra mods:
  • Deluxe Auto-Grabber makes auto-grabbers collect nearby animal products, forage, crops, and indoor pots. Works perfectly with Automate.

Basic automation
Place a chest next to a crafting machine (in any direction including diagonal) to connect it. Machines connected to a chest will push their output into it, and pull ingredients to process out of it.

This can be used to automate...

Automated machines will give you the same XP, achievements, and items you'd get for using them directly.

More automation
A 'machine group' is any number of chests and machines connected together. Any chest or machine placed adjacent to a chest or machine that's already in the group will be added to the group. You can press U (configurable) to visualise machine groups.

If you add multiple chests to the same machine group, they'll all be used in the automation. Input
will be taken from all the chests, and output will be saved to chests in this order:
  1. chests with 'output' in the name (you can edit the name via Chests Anywhere);
  2. chests which already contain an item of the same type;
  3. any chest.

You can increase production by just adding more machines. See some machine setups for examples.

Connectors (in Automate 1.10 beta only)
You can optionally configure objects or paths as connectors, which link machines together. For example, here are wooden paths used as connectors:

Automate has no default connectors; you need to edit the config.json to add connectors. See connectors in the readme for more info.

Need more powerful automation? Here's what's planned for future versions (but no guarantees):
  • Transport pipes will let you connect any machine group to another, even if they're not nearby or in the same location. Each pipe will also be configurable (e.g. one-way or two-way, filter by item or quality, etc). For example: collect milk automatically, and if it's lower than gold quality push it through cheese presses and casks to create iridium cheese, then push it into the shipping bin automatically.
  • Mod integrations will automate custom machines added by other mods.

Tiny reminder: endorse the mod if you like it. It means more people will see it, and it makes the author happy. :)
