Warum übersetze ich Mods?

Nach meinem letzten Komplettdurchgang in Skyrim wollte ich für ein neues Spiel andere Mods ausprobieren. Dabei stieß ich immer wieder auf das "Problem", dass viele der Mods, die ich aussuchte, leider nur in Englisch verfügbar waren oder (wie wusste) so grottenschlecht (copy => Google Translate => paste) oder inkonsistent (mal "du", mal "Sie", mal "Ihr" *1), dass deshalb meine ganz persönliche Immersion doch stark beeinträchtigt war.

*1 Das ist leider sogar im Originalspiel so - Bei Dialogen und in Büchern heiß es "Ihr", im Questtagebuch "du".

So habe ich mich dann mal drangegeben und versucht, eine ganz übersichtliche Mod (mit SSEdit) zu übersetzen; wider Erwarten ging das ganz gut, nur mehrzeilige Textfelder machten Probleme. Als ich dann den ESP-ESM Translator entdeckte, fing die Sache an, mir Freude zu machen. Ergebnis: Den geplanten neuen Durchgang habe ich immer noch nicht begonnen, dafür übersetze ich z.Zt. "Tag und Nacht". :wink:

Ich bin mir meiner begrenzten Englischkenntnisse durchaus bewusst, bemühe mich aber ernsthaft, die jeweils beste Übersetzung zu finden und recherchiere dafür auch teilweise intensiv. Da Dialoge aus einzelnen Zeilen bestehen und der Kontext nicht immer erkennbar ist, kann das auch schon mal danebengehen. Ich habe aber definitiv keine Lust, jede Mod von vorne bis hinten mit allen möglichen Verzweigungen durchzutesten (je nach Mod kann das seeeeehr lange dauern) und schließlich ist das Hobby und kein Beruf - in erster Linie mache ich die Übersetzungen für meine ureigenen Bedürfnisse!

Trotzdem freue ich mich natürlich sehr, wenn ich auch Dir eine Freude mit meiner "Arbeit" machen kann, positive Rückmeldungen sind daher durchaus gerne gesehen.

Wenn Dir etwas nicht gefällt, gibt es deshalb 2 Möglichkeiten:

1. Du benachrichtigst mich freundlich möglichst genau (gerne auch auf meinem Discordserver), wo und wann ein Fehler auftritt oder auffällt und schlägst mir eine Alternative vor. Wenn das irgendwie sinnvoll machbar ist, werde ich die Übersetzung zeitnah anpassen.
2. Wenn Dir das zu aufwändig ist, musst Du entweder damit leben oder meine Übersetzung deinstallieren.

Why do I translate mods?

After my last full run in Skyrim I wanted to try out other mods for a new game. I always encountered the "problem" that many of the mods I chosed were unfortunately only available in English or (as I knew) so bad (copy => Google Translate => paste) or inconsistent (sometimes "you", sometimes "you", sometimes "your" *1) that my personal immersion was severely affected.

*1 Unfortunately, this is even the case in the original game - in dialogues and books it's "your", in the quest diary it's "you" (In German there are different respectful forms of address. The form of address in Skyrim corresponds to a medieval form of address in our country).

So I tried to translate a very simple mod (with SSEdit); contrary to expectations this worked quite well, only multi-line text fields caused problems. When I discovered the ESP-ESM Translator, I started to enjoy it. Result: I still haven't started the planned new run, but I am currently translating "day and night". :wink:

I am well aware of my limited knowledge of English, but I am seriously trying to find the best translation for each case and I am also doing intensive research for this purpose. Since dialogues consist of single lines and the context is not always recognizable, this can sometimes go wrong. But I definitely don't want to test every mod from the beginning to the end with all possible branches (depending on the mod this can take a long long time) and after all this is a hobby and not a profession - first of all I do the translations for my own needs!

Nevertheless, I am of course very happy if I can give you a pleasure with my "work", positive feedback is therefore very welcome.

If you do not like something, there are 2 possibilities:

1. You inform me in a friendly way as exactly as possible (also on my discord server), where and when an error occurs or is noticed and suggest an alternative. If this is somehow feasible, I will adapt the translation promptly.
2. If this is too much work for you, you either have to live with it or uninstall my translation.
