Umbra Your Way

The Daedric artifact Umbra has made multiple appearances throughout the history of Tamriel. Due to its mystical nature, the weapon's form is ephemeral, shifting to match its would-be wielders' tastes. Once a greatsword in Morrowind while a longsword in Cyrodiil in another instance, Umbra has yet again resurfaced in the province of Skyrim. The artifact returns as a greatsword, but what's to say that it cannot change once more?

This mod will allow the player to swap in-game between a one-handed and two-handed form for Umbra via a vaguely lore-appropriate method.

Requirements

Creation Club Umbra and FormList Manipulator.

Converting Between Forms

In order to swap the infamous Daedric artifact between its two forms, a suitable working environment capable of handling the magical process is required: the Atronach Forge. The player must also possess several key items and ingredients:

  • Umbra
  • Fire Salts
  • An ebony ingot
  • A Daedra heart
  • A filled soul gem of at least greater level

This may be performed any number of times, from one version to the other, provided the resources required can be supplied.

Options

When installing, the FOMOD will offer you a few options; an explanation of those choices is provided here:

One-handed Start

By default, Umbra the NPC wields and fights with the two-handed Umbra weapon. At the end of the quest, the player receives the weapon as a reward. This option makes it so that the NPC fights with the one-handed form so that the player gets that Umbra as loot instead. The artifact can still be converted to its two-handed version via the previously mentioned method, but this may be more appealing to those who want the one-handed version from the get-go.

This change needs a bit of testing; it should work without issue, but feedback would be appreciated.

Sigil Stone Requirement

This option adds further restriction upon the conversion process by requiring the player to possess the Sigil Stone. While perhaps more realistic, be aware that the stone can only be obtained upon completing a quest that requires level 90 Conjuration to initiate.

Scabbards

Three options are offered for selection here: scabbard, strap, and no sheath. They should be self-explanatory, but these choices alter how the one-handed Umbra appears. The scabbard is the default.

Compatibility

The main plugin is virtually conflict-free with everything.

The One-handed Start plugin alters Umbra the NPC, his death items, and the Vile Whispers quest.

Any mod that changes Umbra the weapon itself will only affect the two-handed version, but modifications to its enchantment will appear on both versions.

Limitations

Due to how the conversion works, tempering and enchantment charge will be reset each time the process is completed.
