About this mod

Bring Elisif on your adventures. Fully voiced with many, many lines of new dialogue. While you are talking to NPCs, Elisif will find a seat in most chairs on her own, use any nearby crafting equipment, eat food, and clap for bards at inns.

Her dialogue frequency and sandbox mode settings are configurable through dialogue.

Special Edition conversion, released with permission, originally made by registrator2000. I take 0 credit for this mod, all I've done is removed a mesh file that caused a CTD in SE, saved the plugin in CK to update forms, and got rid of an unnecessary additional esp in the original mod(JarlsWillFollow.esp - has been merged into this mod to cut down on the number of esp's).

Beyond that, I've made no creative changes to this mod.

One small addendum:

If you're siding with the Stormcloaks during the Civil War quest-line be sure to dismiss Elisif prior to their final quest, otherwise the quest objective doesn't update properly.

When asked for permission for conversion I was given this reply:

"Thanks for checking in and feel free to do so!"

Original description as follows:

About

Elisif is fully voiced with vanilla assets and has many, many lines of new dialogue! She's always eager for adventure. She'll also comment on the places you explore, sometimes overzealously. Spend time with her, and eventually she'll have something to comment about having you around.

Complete a short quest to gain Elisif's trust. Lore-wise, I intend and very strongly encourage you to have completed Elisif's Tribute and returned Torygg's War Horn to a Shrine of Talos - increasing Elisif's trust of you, before starting this quest. You may start this
quest without completing the quest however. It is not a hard requirement, though you won't get the most out of the story if you
choose to skip it.

You will hear from the guard in the Blue Palace that Jarl Elisif isn't taking visitors today. She's told everyone she's sick, and has locked herself up in her room. As you approach her room, however, you hear faint sobs coming from inside...

-----

Elisif is not intended to be used as "just another pair of hands" when fighting enemies. (though there isn't anything stopping you should you want to go that way.) Indeed, you may find that if it's damage output you're concerned with, Elisif won't be the best candidate. She's a princess, after all, not a sellsword. If you're looking for raw power for your adventures, you might want to hire someone else.

But if your intention is to have Elisif as a friend and bring her on adventures she could only dream of, you may appreciate having the ability to do so.

Gameplay Information

Elisif scales with your level.
Elisif will not attack the innocent. Don't ask her to.
Unlike vanilla followers, Elisif enters sandbox mode when you are idle! (Like Serana)
While you are talking to NPCs, Elisif will find a seat in most chairs on her
own, use any nearby crafting equipment, eat food, and clap for bards at
inns.
Her dialogue frequency and sandbox mode settings are configurable through dialogue.

I have handpicked and added dozens and dozens of new lines for Elisif
that suit her personality. There is a grand total of 196 voice files for
Elisif in this mod.
You'll hear new lines when asking her to follow you, when trading with her, dismissing her, asking her to wait and in
idle dialogue. There are also several lines that you probably won't have
ever heard before - I have gone into audio editing software and
composited different tracks as well as made use of cut content. You will
also hear dialogue unique to Elisif, like comments on returning to the
Blue Palace if you've been out for an extended period of time.

Updating

Latest version: v1.1!
  • NEW: 'Relax' mode - tell Elisif you plan to stay at your current location
for a bit and she'll go and do her own thing. A marker will show where Elisif is, so you'll never lose her!
  • 24 new lines of voiced dialogue!
  • Tweaks to emotions across all dialogue; Elisif is happier and more expressive when with you!

For a detailed changelog please see the Changes tab.

To update: Dismiss Elisif first, then replace files with the new version.

Install

There are two ESPs in this mod. JarlsCanFollow.esp enables recruiting Jarls as followers. For some reason, Bethesda decided to specifically exclude the Jarl faction (and only the Jarl faction) from the vanilla
follower system through an additional condition check, so this gets rid
of that limitation. Not to worry - this doesn't affect any other Jarls.
IMPORTANT: Both ESPs need to be activated. If you don't activate JarlsCanFollow.esp, you won't be able to ask Elisif to follow you.

Please make sure:
  • You are not in the Blue Palace when you enable this mod. You will encounter
a short cutscene with one of the guards when entering the Blue Palace after installation.
  • You are not in the middle of a quest that involves Elisif. Namely: Season Unending and Tending the Flames.
  • It is not the first time you are entering Solitude and the Blue Palace.
(Otherwise "higher-priority" main-quest packages will take precedence)

You will take Elisif out on a journey to the Throat of the World. It's best
if you don't have a main quest that wants you to go to the Throat of
the World at the same time.
If you have not discovered the Throat of the World, you can either wait till you have - and show Elisif that you
know of such wonderful places outside the drab Blue Palace, skip the
recruitment quest or take a shortcut with the console. (see shortcuts
section) There is a short scene at the Throat of the World where Elisif
will talk to you. Good weather guaranteed. If you visit at night you will see the aurora in the sky.

Uninstall

This mod is safe to uninstall.
Dismiss Elisif and make a clean save.
Enter setstage aaDialogueElisif 200 and stopquest aaDialogueElisif in the console to let the mod know you're uninstalling, and Elisif will
be automatically removed from the potential follower faction and
returned into her appropriate factions.
You can then disable and remove the ESP from your Skyrim installation.

Compatibility

  • [COMPATIBLE] Elisif uses the vanilla follower system. She's compatible with your other follower mods.

  • [COMPATIBLE with notes] JarlsCanFollow.esp removes the Bethesda-set limitation of Jarls not
being able to follow by modifying DialogueFavorGeneric. If you have any other mods that modify this record, put this ESP at the bottom.

  • [COMPATIBLE with notes] If you are using Extensible Follower Framework, you have two options:
putting ElisifCompanion.esp below EFFDialogue.esp keeps Elisif in the vanilla follower system and retains all her lines as I intended them. The other way round (ElisifCompanion.esp above EFFDialogue.esp) puts Elisif in EFF's follower system (with the companion wheel). You'll miss out on Elisif's custom recruitment and dismissal lines. EFF blanket overrides the default dialogue to implement its features, so there's nothing that can be done here, unfortunately. Everything else - the follower functionality, her idle dialogue works fine though!

  • [COMPATIBLE but with compatibility instructions] Mods that modify Elisif's NPC record. This includes Elisif replacers and mods that modify Elisif's NPC record. However, it is VERY EASY to make them compatible.
Only one mod can modify any single record, so the mod activated lower in the mod order wins.

You would want to load your Elisif replacer below this mod's ESP to have Elisif's looks changed.

The only relevant change that this mod makes to Elisif's NPC record is to make Elisif's level scale with yours. (Other values like aggression, confidence, morality, and faction are verified and set in her follower quest.)

After loading the replacer, click on her (her reference ID is 198c1) and enter setlevel 1000 0 1 100 in the console. (This means 100.0% of your level; 0 levels ahead of you; scale from level 1 to 100)

If you are using Toccata's Elisif replacer, you can use the compatibility patch that I have uploaded.

Notes

When I met Elisif in game I just felt so, so bad for her. To have lost her
husband and to so suddenly be thrown into a position of responsibility -
to have to conceal her feelings - I realized just how bad she was
hurting inside. While the rest of Tamriel worried about Alduin, the
World-Eater, Elisif's world had already ended. It had ended the day her
husband was killed. This mod is an opportunity to get to know her, and
perhaps, let her know that she isn't alone in this big, big world.

Credits

Follower Commentary Overhaul forms the basis of Elisif's selection of idle
dialogue. THANKS! to the great work done by FCO's author.

My gratitude to the USKP team as well for fixing the vanilla bug with the
incorrect activator position on Elisif's bedroom door. Just this bugfix
is included in this mod - one of Elisif's quests take place in her room
and her room will be locked for a part of the quest. If you already have
USKP installed, you may be asked whether to overwrite this file. You
can select No.

Trivia

Elisif won't be too happy if you trade her something disgusting, like human flesh or dog meat.

Troubleshooting and Shortcuts

If you don't want to do the (very short and totally worth it) quest and just want Elisif as a follower:
Enter in the console:
stopquest aaElisifRecruitmentQuest

If you want to do Elisif's quest, but have not yet discovered the Throat
of the World, you can skip to the last stage of the quest with this
command. You will drop Elisif off at the Blue Palace Courtyard and
she'll thank you for taking the time.
setstage aaElisifRecruitmentQuest 30

If you want to do Elisif's quest, have not yet discovered the Throat of
the World, but want to see the scene there, you can enter the following
commands during the appropriate quest stage to teleport to the Throat of
the World as well as move Elisif to your location.
player.movetoqt aaElisifRecruitmentQuest
"198c1".moveto player

If you encounter problems with the recruitment quest, please post the contents of:
ShowQuestVars aaElisifRecruitmentQuest
I would need details on whether the quest is "Running" or "Stopped", the
current quest stage you are at, and whether you see any "NONE" entries
in the list.

If you are having problems with Elisif's follower dialogue or behavior, post the contents of this instead:
ShowQuestVars aaDialogueElisif

Script Safety

There is one background script for tracking whether you are idle to kick in Elisif's
sandbox behavior. This is the same one used on Serana from Dawnguard. I
use the safe modding practice of not using RegisterForUpdate. When she
is not following you, I make sure anything attached stops - and I do
take care to tie up the loose ends. Source code included.

Story

Elisif. A quiet, polite girl. In just one day her entire life was turned upside
down. Suddenly thrust - no, thrown - into the position of Jarl of Solitude. Suddenly expected to rule over Skyrim. Suddenly saddled with more responsibilities than she could count. Yet she tries her best to hide her grief, to put on a stoic face; to swallow the pain, the hardship. It is difficult. It is so hard to pretend nothing has happened, so hard to put on this facade. Elisif is struggling, and what she needs now, more than ever, is someone to confide in. Someone to talkto. Someone that understands her.

But in this new world of politics, who can she trust? Her court is filled with sinister people with malicious intent. Treachery runs rampant. Many look to usurp the throne in these times of uncertain leadership.

Now, more than ever, with the war raging on, she needs to be guarded. She can't show her emotions, can't afford to appear weak.

She would give anything to be free and happy again, unshackled from
responsibility. But she knows she has to be there to lead; to take care
of her people, now, more than ever before, in these tumultuous times,
and Elisif wouldn't hesitate to put her people's happiness above her
own.

If only there was someone she could trust. Someone whom she'd feel at ease with. Someone righteous, without political agenda.

Someone that could bring her to see the world.
