The difference is that loose files always have priority over BSA and will overwrite them regardless where you place them in the load order. If you're having mods that are changing the same scripts as loose files and you want to be sure this mod won't overwrite them, then use the BSA version. Otherwise if you want more control over where everything loads or are on VR which doesn't have ESL support, use the loose files version to save yourself an ESP slot, as currently the plugin is only loading the BSA and is not doing anything else.
Good news is now Skyrim VR supports ESL files via a mod called Skyrim VR ESL Support. Vortex even pushes a notification to download the mod through it.
anybody know of a mod that fixes the script for the quest Retaking Thirsk? There is a known vanilla bug that prevents the quest progressing if you kill the rieklings too quickly.
Not related to this mod, i know, but if ever there was a mod for which it'd make sense to include a fix, it'd be this
Absolutely phenomenal mod. These are the type of mods I wish I'd see more of. Actual fixes to Bethesda's spaghetti code. The more code gets fixed, the more unlikely crashes are and the better performance gets. It's a win-win.
I am sure you are a very busy person, but would you be kind enough to take a look at magicimodonplayerhitscript.psc from Vanilla Script (micro)Optimizations, it seems to crash my game everytime I use a item called "weak poison". I don't understand scripts enough to find out whats wrong with the script.
That script looks functionally identical to the vanilla one and I don't see anything obvious that can be causing crashes. Send over a full crash log and I might be able to tell what's going on.
I think the problem is that the script is trying to reference or find some specfic data, but cannot. So it gets stuck in a loop, then eventually crashes the game. The game freezes for a second and then crashes. Removing this script from my game and that poison works fine.
Here is my crash log with only dll based mods on a pretty clean test setup. https://pastebin.com/BavsNxTx Also, you could also try the mod and the weak poison and see if it crashes your game as well. It is possible that it's some kind of incompatibility on my setup.
Edit: Also, could it be this area that's commented out with ; thats causing the problem?
The first 3 commented out lines are just duplicate local variables that are not used for anything and on the last 2 the wait is replaced by RegisterForSingleUpdate which does more or less the same thing and the bIsOkToPlay assignment is moved to the OnUpdate event. None of these changes have any possibility of crashing the game under normal circumstances.
I tried to replicate the crash both on vanilla and my modded setup with VSMO loaded, but was unable to reproduce it. I'm inclined to believe there is something wrong with your setup as a whole as the crash log is not very conclusive and this crash is a sign of a bigger problem. I'd suggest disabling all SKSE mods as well and trying again and if that fails, you can try reinstalling the game, as I've noticed you're on 1.5.97 and it's possible something went wrong if you did a downgrade.
Thank you, that helps clarify it's a problem on my end. Which is strange, if the script is functionally identical to vanilla script. Why is it when I remove the modded script, my game runs fine with the vanilla script.
I mentioned the commented out area, because maybe those commented out lines is required by an skse mod and thats why its crash. Anyways, I won't waste any more of your time, because now I know the problem is only on my end. I cam troubleshoot aggressively and narrow down the culprit.
yeah, i've been getting a black screen stuck with audio still playing during the high hrothgar intro stage where you are supposed to learn the unrelenting force words. After hours of testing, when i disabled the exact same mod (Vanilla micro optimization). The whole scene proceeds smoothly without crashing, freezing, or black screen.
I re-enabled it and loaded an earlier save right before the scenes and went back inside to start the scene and it got the black screen stuck with audio.
Also using Vanilla Scripting Enhancements mod, not sure if anything weird might be caused by using all three mods together.

Could you tell in simple words what the difference between the two versions is / When which version should be used?
Can it be used with it?
