Navigation Overhaul (SE and VR) for Tasheni's The Pride of Teia V_1

(Read everything to discover the new features)

Description:

Fixes and improvements to navigation in VR and SE.
Now you can sail The Pride of Teia* without any keyboard input and move while sailing. You can still use the default keyboard keys (see changelog) to control ship movement if you choose, they will respond to the new navigation method.
This mod is focused on VR gameplay; however, it should be compatible with SE.
*only in Skyrim for now (read Known Issues section)

Mod Requirements:
Tasheni's The Pride of Teia V_1 and its requirements (if you can run Tasheni's mod, you'll be able to run this one, too).
Read the original instructions here.
SKSE VR (for VR, of course).

Game Requirements:
You must be able to (re)bind your controller buttons to:
A -> "Toggle POV" (this will be your turn right button)
B -> "Camera Path" (throttle forward)
X -> "Zoom Out" (turn left)
Y -> "Zoom In" (throttle reverse)
LT -> you have bind this to a function that lets you use it in both normal gameplay and sailing (mine is bound to "Sprint". This is an important key as it will open the ship control menu and I can't change it (I tried). (not needed anymore in 1.0.3)

I used those binds because, in VR, those clicks are inconsequential so you can still use the A, B, X, and Y buttons as modifiers in button combos, for
example, to open SpellWheel or use VRIK gestures. I don't advise to bind ship functions to either trigger or grip buttons, as those are generally used for important functions during normal gameplay.

If you don't know how to (re)bind VR controller buttons, I suggest you to download one of the several mods you can find at Nexus site. Those will make the task much easier.

Improvements:

- You'll be able to sail and move the player on your ship simultaneously.
- You can enter the Cabin and Lower Deck while still controlling the ship*.
- You can even enter combat or ride your mount while sailing (initial framework for dynamic pirate attacks!).
- You no longer need to bind your LT button to anything. (1.0.3)
- Added fully functional movable map markers. (1.0.3)
- Better stability; closed several loose ended loops that were prone to cause bugs. (1.0.3)
- No more moving or ghosting doors while sailing. (1.0.3)
- Got rid of the auto teleport for boarding as it was causing unstable behavior. (1.0.3)
- Added a power to board the ship. (1.0.3)
- New esp for better adaptation to new versions of the original mod. (1.0.3)
- See changelog for details.

Instructions:
Installation (ver. 1.0.3)
It's suggested to use a save where you haven't sailed the ship for the first time. You can try a save where you already sailed the ship, but successful installation is not guaranteed (read "Ongoing save" section).

General installation:

1. Uninstall the previous version, wipe it completely.
2. Check that the original mod (Tasheni's) is working as intended.
3. Download, install, and enable the latest version of this mod. Let it win any conflict.

First time only (save file where you haven't sailed the Pride of Teia, yet):
1. Go to the ship's location (near Dawnstar) and get on board. Look at the starboard side (right) of the helm, you'll find a letter/note, take it, it's the Letter of Ownership for the Pride of Teia. Read it.
2. Go to the helm and activate the ship. Be sure to have the letter in your inventory before selecting "Start sailing".
3. Store the letter away from you (in a container or a companion) or just drop it (the letter's weight is 600 as a reminder that you must get rid of it after the first use!).
4. Once you put the letter away, activate the ship again and select "Stop sailing".
5. The ship is ready to be used normally, again.
6. Activate and select "Start sailing" to begin your journey. You don't need to repeat these steps anymore in this playthrough.

Ongoing save (save file where you already sailed the Pride of Teia):
1. Go to the helm but don't take the letter, yet.
2. Try activating the ship and selecting "Start sailing" if you left the ship anchored or "Stop sailing" if you left it unanchored. If that works, great you're in!, ignore the letter now.
3. If the previous step failed and you're sure of the state you left the ship in (anchored or unanchored), load the save again and now go and grab the letter and follow the instructions for "First time".
4. If the previous step also failed, you'll need to load an earlier save.
5. Report your success (or lack of) in the comments section.

Ship operation:
There are 7 speeds (5 forward and 2 reverse).
To throttle up forward one level, click (and hold for a second) the throttle forward button once (see below for bindings), click again for next speed level. To throttle down one level, click (and hold for a second) once the throttle reverse button. Do the opposite to sail in reverse.

For turning, click (and hold for a second) the corresponding button once. The ship will begin to turn at a constant rate. Click the opposite side button to cancel turning. Do the same for turning to the other side.

Now you can board the ship in two ways: a) by getting near either side and activating the power "Board the Pride of Teia", or b) by fast-traveling to it (remember the new shiny ship marker?).

While the ship is in motion you'll no longer be able to access ship's interiors, you must stop the ship first to be able to get inside (it's not necessary to anchor the ship for this). You'll be able to get through doors but they will lead you to the empty hull (still useful under a heavy storm, indeed!).

If you access any ship interior space while the ship is unanchored (but stopped, read above), you won't be able to teleport to Teia (or Skyrim if you're in the Isles). To be able to teleport again, you must anchor the ship first.

You can still remote control the ship while off-board, but relatively close to it (the 3D model must be visible).

While you're in either ship interior space and the ship is unanchored, you'll still be able to change speed and direction; however, the ship won't move until you're on-deck again.

Be careful of not running your ship aground. If you do, the ship speed will decrease gradually but constantly until it reaches zero. You can still turn the ship at zero speed, but there will be times when there's nowhere to move and your ship will become stuck for good (that's what a shipwreck actually is!! and there are many shipwrecks in Skyrim, so don't complain, it's a feature, not a bug).

Known issues:
- While sailing at high speeds, ship's doors will flicker/ghost, this is a trade-off for having sailing and player movement at the same time. Currently looking for a workaround. (fixed in 1.0.3)

- Sometimes, when the ship is turning or tilting, the player can hit the (invisible) teleport activator and will be teleported to the deck. (fixed in 1.0.3)

- Sometimes followers/summons can fall off the ship, so you have to use their teleportation spells to bring them back on board (this is also an issue in the original mod. Not a big deal really, it's funny when you say goodbye waving your hand at them).

- If you have LT (left trigger) bound to "Sprint" and want to sprint during ship movement, you can but, once you release the trigger, the menu will appear, just close it and continue with your movement. In principle, it is a bad practice to sprint while the ship is moving at fast speeds since you can fall off  board, but you can if you want (I certainly do). (fixed in 1.0.3)

- Ships in the Isles of Teia (including the Pride of Teia) are still unable to sail (in VR at least, please report your experience with SE in the comments section). You can anchor and unanchor successfully using the methods discussed in the installation section, you even get the feedback response to speed and direction changes, but they refuse to move (investigating the cause; this is a strange one as in Skyrim everything is working as intended; might need Tasheni's deeper knowledge of her worldspace on this).

Important Notes:
- I only tested this with Oculus Touch controllers. For others, it should work fine as long as they have the same internal game key codes, but I can't test them.

- If you like the original navigation method or don't like this new one, you can safely uninstall this mod, just follow the usual safety measures (don't uninstall the original mod!).

- This mod was developed based on version 1.0 of the original mod. If a new version comes in the future, this mod might or might not work. (Better chance of compatibility/upgradability starting with ver. 1.0.3).

WIP:
- Support for the other ships included in the original mod.
