in theory you could go into blender or game files or something and just swap the shield texture with a sword of your choice. make sure the animations look right (probably just use the stock block anims but maybe a certain shield animation or two would work a little better) and there you go.
dont ask me to try though, as soon as you ask me about textures all three of my braincells leave the chat. im a ini file and numbers messing guy, not a blender master😅
I would love to see bucklers added to this mod, especially imperial bucklers! They seem the perfect shape and the way they grip them for this. I'd share an image but has to be a link? @_@
Hi, can I just delete the "Leveled Items" in xEdit to prevent NPCs and guards from equipping these? I would like it to be Player only if possible-thanks!
edit: I think it worked, lol. The guards in Whiterun no longer carry two shields.
LOL, so, funny thing... In SkyrimVR, Bethesda kind of screwed up left-handed play (long story). You would think that you could just play with right-handed settings, but the game will not let you hold a shield in your right hand, and it won't let you block with your right hand without a weapon equipped, even with dual wielding/dual blocking mods enabled.
Enter...your cool mod! What I am hoping is that SkyrimVR will read your right handed shield as a weapon, so I can use it to block, and use my left hand to wield a sword. I opened the lockbox near Heimskr, and am off to test it :D If it does work, I will spread the word amongst the hundreds (actually just three or four) of other left handed Skyrim VR players who want to play sword and shield left handed.
I've got a bunch of guards walking around with double shields in one hand, or a shield in each hand, which is hilarious when it's Solitude guard holding a Solitude shield and a Windhelm shield. I also can equip one of these shields in my left hand as well as a spell, and just the spell casts. Not sure if any of that is intended but this mod is worth the weirdness! I have this along with Dual Wield Parrying Reimplementation and I can play a spell shield exactly the way I imagined. For anyone else that wants to do this, I could only get block to work if I use the right hand shield, but other than that and all the silly guards wandering around with a weird mix of shields, it works great!
Hey dude, thanks for the mod. Good work! Im trying to make a shield weapon of my own, how do you change the shield mesh to the right hand. Im a new guy, would appreciate the helpThanks
sorry for taking weeks to respond i had finals and univ prep stuff. what application do i use to attach the mesh? and i have made an esp that balances your shields. can i put it up or share it with you?
Pity. Theres a really quick and dirty remesh of the ebony shield that rotates it 90 degrees so that it looks kinda like captain america's wakandan shields from endgame. Would be perfect with this.
For those wondering, here's a little more information into what Abbalovesyou graciously created for us:
- These seem to be 1H weapons, as far as the game is concerned, that look like shields. I'm looking through the blacksmithing menu right now and I'm seeing two sets of "shields" in most sections (some of the weapon shields are in odd locations; for example, the Nordic shield is in a " Draugr" category). One shield is labeled as Heavy/Light Armor with an armor rating while the other has no label but does have a damage rating. I'm still working on figuring out which perks affect the weapon shields (i.e. are they swords, daggers, axes, or maces as far as the game is concerned).
EDIT: These are treated as maces and benefit from any perks you have that affect maces. I just confirmed this using some of the weapon specialty perks from Ordinator and the only ones that worked as they should when using the weapon shields were the mace perks.
- The weapon shields seem to be incredibly overpowered as far as damage is concerned. With my perks in the 1H tree, Nordic swords, axes, and maces do 25, 27, and 30 damage respectively; the Nordic weapon shield does 59...
- The weapon shields are definitely affected by the 1H perk tree. I changed my actor value in 1H from 60 to 0 and the damage on the Nordic weapon shield dropped from 59 to 46. They are not affected by the Block perk tree (at least for their damage value); I changed my Block actor value to 0 and saw no change in weapon shield damage.
- There is indeed a small strongbox to the left of the Talos statue in Whiterun; however, it's a Master level strongbox...
- Some of the special shields that have magical effects that proc on or affect bashing still have that effect on the weapon shields. It looks like you'll be able to benefit from them only if you have an empty off-hand and bash just like you would with a normal weapon.
- Any named (or normally non-craftable) shield (i.e. Dawnguard, Auriel's, Pyrite's, etc.) is unenchantable. Any normal shield (i.e. iron, steel, imperial, etc.) can be enchanted with any weapon enchantment only.
- "Sheathing" your weapon shields will cause the left one to disappear and the right one to stay on your arm just like sheathing with a normal shield on your left arm.
- You cannot block while using one of these weapon shields in your left hand; the game treats it just like a 1H weapon. You can still quick attack and power attack (to include dual-wield power attack) with them though.
- The weapon shields designated as "left" can be equipped in the right hand slot. While the sound and animations come from the right hand (attacks, swings, and hits), the shield displays in the left hand. If you equip a "left" weapon shield in the right hand and a normal weapon shield in the left hand, all of your sounds and animations will act like you're dual wielding normally; however, your right hand will look empty. If you equip a normal weapon shield in your left hand, it will look and work just like an off-hand weapon would normally look and work. Equipping a "left" weapon shield in your right hand and any other 1H weapon in your left hand will show an empty right hand (but still perform and sound like it's equipped), a shield in your left hand, and the equipped 1H weapon also in your left hand.
- Equipping a normal shield in your left hand and a weapon shield in your right hand allows you to function as if using a 1H weapon and shield normally (blocking, bashing, and attacking).
That's as far as I've gotten to testing these out so far. For anyone like me worried about the damage making the game too easy, I'm just finding a shield with comparable damage to whatever tier of weaponry I can craft with my current 1H and blacksmithing skill.
The damage was based on the armor rating of the vanilla shields thats probably why they seem overpowered.
They are detected as a mace.
There is a perk in the block tree that allows you to block arrows or whatever and it had a condition that has the keyword, "armorshield" so it may or may not work with the weapon while blocking. if the keyword has any other use it may do something else for it. i dunno.
You cannot block unless you have a blocking mod that allows you to block while duel wielding.
Love the mod, any chance of updating the original skyrim version of the mod to include the left shields, I tried unpacking the bsa and loading it like that, however the meshes aren't compatible and show up like red and white squares. Any help would be appreciated!
i really dont like working on two versions of the same mod so the old version is gonna have to be left behide. for now sse is the future until skse gets here.
