Wards Act Like Shields:



Description:


Casting ward will block melee attacks, allowing mages to better defend themselves. The damage taken will be calculated the same way it is calculated when blocking with a weapon. See here for the formula. Blocking with a ward will cost you Stamina (when blocking an attack) and improve your Block skill. (This is not modifiable.)
This feature was created by Borgut1337 and originally implemented in V1.10 of Deadly Combat SSE.



There are three versions of this mod:


Main version: Wards block melee attacks.
This is the recommended version.
Arrows will go through wards and will not be affected by it. (Exactly the same than blocking with a weapon.)


Alternative version 1: Wards block melee attacks and Arrows shot at the player.

I do not recommend this version because of the following drawbacks:
- Due to a technical limitation in the Creation Kit, it is impossible to make NPCs' wards block arrows. Only the player can block arrows with its ward, which gives him an unfair advantage.
- Some hurt sounds and blood effects might still appear even when you do not take damage from arrows.


Alternative 2: Wards block arrows shot at the player.
I do not recommend this version because of the same drawbacks described above for the Alternative version 1.


A file for Oldrim for the two first versions is available in the optional files.






Requirements & (Un)Installation:


You need the latest version of Skyrim Special Edition.
Installation as usual. Install with your favorite mod manager or manually in the data folder.
Uninstall by removing the mod files.







Compatibility & Load Order:


This mod is not compatible with any mod that changes the "ShieldConcSelf" magic effect, but I don't know of any that does.
If you have a doubt, check with SSEEdit for conflicts.
If you see any conflict and can't do a compatibility patch yourself, post a request in the comments. I'll look into it, but no promises.
