The idea behind this mod was firstly that I find honey to be quite elusive, but also that I found that the apiary that you can build outside Lakeview Manor remained "lifeless" after I had looted it, I would even get the wishful thinking of storing ingredients such as bees, honeycombs and even beehive husks inside it, yet nothing would happen. So just the other day this idea popped into my mind and I began to work on it.

So this mod aims to bring the Hearthfire apiaries to life with the help of a new script I added to them:

  • Upon storing bees in the apiary, they will spawn in a random spot around it. These bees are technically duplicates of the CritterBee activator which you, however, cannot catch and add them to your inventory again. A maximum of 15 bees can be displayed outside the apiary. As night falls they will be disabled retreat into the apiary, as well as when it snows or rains in v1.2. The "number of stored bees" doesn't apply to the Bees that were already inside the apiary by the time you built it, you'll have to loot them and then deposit them again for the script to take effect.
  • The following 24 hours (like a day or more) after depositing bees, the apiary will generate a small, random amount of honey combs, and sometimes even some honey if you're lucky. The chance for the apiary to yield honey after each day depends on how many bees you have stored. For instance, if you've stored at least 5 bees, the "honey odds" are 10%, 10 bees = odds 20%, and if you've stored 30 bees or more, the apiary will be guaranteed to drop honey. The apiary can store up to about 10 samples of honey combs and honey, respectively. They won't exactly stack beyond that.
  • Beware, harvesting honey or honey combs runs a 50% risk of the bees getting angry and try to sting you a random amount of times, also depending on how many bees you've stored. This even applies when you command a follower to loot the apiary - they can also get stung. Note: No bee technically dies from stinging you (as in that the "number of stored bees" won't decrease). And it's nothing I plan on implementing either. Another note: If your follower gets stuck playing the cowering idle, try to draw your weapon and sheathe again. New in 1.2: You can now open the console and enter "set SFAStingOff to 1" without the quotes, to disable the sting feature. That, or you can wear heavy armor to block the poison damage.
