About this mod

Edits some of the facial expressions to resemble some of those you see in Oblivion.

This is my first "official" mod project of the year, after having a break from Skyrim since December.

This mod aims to bring back some facial expressions from Oblivion, where I've tweaked a handful of the vanilla expression morphs/shapekeys in Blender. And I used Outfit Studio to conform every face part based on the new tri's.

So far this only covers the humanoid races, not beast races. I would have thoughts of creating a standalone add-on for khajiit at some point.

Here are the details of the morphs I've changed:

  • MoodAnger - Based on Oblivion's basic "Anger" morph with a slightly grumpier frown, especially on the mouth.
  • MoodFear - Lowered brows, slightly squinting eyes and and attempt to make the npc look more worried. In my opinion, the vanilla "MoodFear" morph looked a bit too similar to the MoodSurprised one.
  • MoodHappy - Based on Oblivion's "DispHappy4" morph (like when an NPC loves you to the max), wider grin and slightly raised brows to make it look more expressive.
  • MoodSad - Brows being lowered similar to the MoodFear morph, and a slightly more pouting lower lip.
  • MoodDisgusted - Based on Oblivion's "DispAnger2" morph, nothing much else to add here because the first two images probably speak for themselves.
  • CombatAnger - Based on Oblivion's iconic "DispAnger4" morph (when an NPC absolutely hates you). The vanilla expression was a bit too hard to take seriously on males, and the female version looked too identical to MoodAnger, no gritting teeth like the male one, so this expression was fun to bring back. Now you can definitely see the fury in your enemies' eyes.
  • *NEW* MoodSurprise - Straightened out the brows but raised enough and eyes more wide open to give the actor an even more shocked look on their face.

  • Most of the "DialogueX" morphs have been blended to resemble their new "MoodX" counterparts a bit more.

This mod comes with an optional patch for High Poly Head.

Installation:
Either download with a mod manager of your choice, or manually download the archive and extract the contained Data folder into your Skyrim (SE) folder.
(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim -Special Edition-)
Click yes to overwrite.

Before you ask, yes, this mod can also be installed on the Legendary Edition of the game as it only contains TRI files. I just don't feel like maintaining an additional page for Oldrim, seeing as SSE is way more popular these days.

This mod should work fine with Expressive Facegen Morphs because that one only alters the non-expression-based tri's (with a chargen/races suffix) unlike my mod or Expressive Facial Animation.

If you somehow do prefer Expressive Facial Animation (male/female) entirely over this mod, that's fine, you don't have to let me know. See I have no interest in competing about which mod is better, as there is no accounting for taste. But don't get me wrong, I love EFA too and have been using it for as long as I can remember, it breathes more life into NPCs in it's own unique way.
Truth is, I was meaning to include EFA's lip/eye/brow movements in my own tri's, but I wasn't granted permission from the author, so these morphs in this mod are by far the same as vanilla, except I also tweaked the mouth to be open with the CombatShout expression, for females.

And lastly, screenshots are welcome ^^

These are the NPC overhauls I'm using in the sceenshots:
Male Npc Overhaul (Hadvar)
Bacetrica's Serana replacer (Lute hairdo.)
  • Need to manually replace the following TRI files with mine in folder "Data\Meshes\actors\character\Sarah_Serana Replacer By bacetrica\HeadParts": femalehead.tri, femaleheadbrows.tri
High Poly Sinding Replacer (my own mod)
  • Need to manually replace the following TRI files with mine in folder "Data\Meshes\actors\character\CinnaMew Sinding Replacer": malehead.tri, maleheadbrows.tri, humanbeardshort02.tri
