This is a mesh and texture replacement for Juniper trees. The mesh uses the SMIM mesh as a base but applies several fixes to the mesh.
This project started when I made my Better Juniper Texture mod. To be honest when I made that mod, I thought I would just end up applying it to 3D Junipers - Trees and Berries because that was the mesh replacement I was using at the time. However, after making my texture replacement, I liked the new branch texture so much that I wanted a mesh that really utilized those textures more. This left me with a decision between the vanilla juniper mesh and the SMIM Juniper mesh. Ultimately I decided I liked the SMIM mesh, but the more I looked at it the more I noticed little issues with it. That's when I decided to make this mod to address the issues I noticed.

About the texture
Installation
This project started when I made my Better Juniper Texture mod. To be honest when I made that mod, I thought I would just end up applying it to 3D Junipers - Trees and Berries because that was the mesh replacement I was using at the time. However, after making my texture replacement, I liked the new branch texture so much that I wanted a mesh that really utilized those textures more. This left me with a decision between the vanilla juniper mesh and the SMIM Juniper mesh. Ultimately I decided I liked the SMIM mesh, but the more I looked at it the more I noticed little issues with it. That's when I decided to make this mod to address the issues I noticed.
What's been changed/fixed on the SMIM mesh?
- I fixed the branch meshes so they no longer split when being blown in the wind
- I fixed the lighting settings on the mesh so the juniper will not glow in the shadows
- I did some work on the UV map of the trunk to make seams less noticeable with my trunk texture. There are still some seams if you go looking for them, but they are much less noticeable.
- I thought some of the upper branches looked oddly chunky. I put them on a diet.
- One branch had a very sharp edge so I straightened that out some
About the texture
- Texture is the same texture I used in my Better Juniper Texture mod. If you're also using that mod, this mod is a total replacement for it. You don't need both mods.
- The texture was obtained from images I took of an Eastern Red Cedar tree.
- The textures come in 2k and 4k
Installation
- Download the file that matches the resolution you want (i.e., 2k or 4k)
- Install with your mod manager of choice
- Let this mod overwrite any other mods that replace the juniper meshes and textures
- If you want to have SMIM Junipers in the wilds but would like to use 3D Junipers - Trees and Berries in planters/Hearthfire homes, let this mod overwrite 3D Junipers. SInce this mod only touches the florajuniper.nif, the 3D junipers will replace these in the planter but will still use the textures from this mod (except for the 3D berries, they have their own texture).
- If you would like to use Better SMIM Juniper along with another juniper replacement, there is a Base Object Swapper version available in the Optional files section. Simply merge the Base Object Swapper version with one of the main files. Allow the other juniper replacement you want to use to overwrite this mod or remove/hide florajuniper01.nif from this mod.
