Many death alternative mods, like Shadows of Skyrim, set the player to essential so that they can't die. Obscure's College of Winterhold has a trigger-box in the lower floor of the Hall of Elements that will remove the essential status from the player. This is a small patch to the relevant scripts so that they don't touch the essential status.
