About this mod

A mesh replacement for all of Riften's buildings. Applies 3d Shingle roofs and dragon-head mantles to decorate the buildings. Gives a more appropriate aesthetic for a Nordic hold capital.

Permissions and credits
A very simple model replacer for Riften's assets adding full 3D shingle roofs and for some of the buildings there is also Dragon-Head Mantles to give that additional Nordic architectural flavor. The work was rushed in just about a weeks time so I may get back to this again in the future to polish and possibly look for other ways to bring out the cultural identity.

Reason for this Mod:

Roughly 72 years before the time of the Dragonborn the city of Riften erupted into a civil war that ended with the torching of the city. The old wooden keep now called Hosgunn's Folly was burned down and later replaced with a Stone Keep called Mistveil Keep. The denizens of Riften wisely understood that they should take precautions to ensure that it doesn't burn down again.. Before promptly constructing the rest of the city in wood.

According to the book "Of Crossed Daggers": "The once-proud streets and buildings have vanished and been replaced with a collection of wooden structures and rough stonework shrouded in a permanent fog-like mist. In order to understand how such a large city became nothing more than a glorified fortress, one need only look to the history books for answers.". So very unexpressed architecture seems appropriate, however I find this a little sad given that there is very little about Riften that indicates that you are in a Nordic province. It has felt very muted and with expansions for our exploration of Tamriel through the Beyond Skyrim series looming in the future, I thought I'd edit these buildings to make them better express a Nordic identity.. At least, a little bit. I thought the roofs should echo the scaly fish that fuels the towns economy and the stave-church dragon-head mantles have that additional strangeness. Looking over inspirations I noticed that Laketown in the Hobbit also had a scaly shingle roof design which cemented the concept for this mod in my head.

While I was just going to use this for myself I was given permission by the authors that the work leaned upon so I thought I'd share it with the community that has given me so much over the years. The work took me no longer then the holiday break from my job and relied upon the hard work of the other authors who agreed to share their assets with me.

I was given permission by the authors Yuril and Redbag to use pieces of their assets to make this side-project possible. Their work is amazing so if you haven't already then do give their work the endorsements they deserve. I admittedly also managed to use Nicola89b's Riften assets without his permission by mistake but he was generous enough to let me use them after we talked, his work is also fantastic and should be checked out and given the endorsements it deserves.

Installation:

Drag and drop the meshes and textures folders from the zip into your Skyrim Special Edition Data folder. It includes a re-texture of the LOD for Riften's roofs which fits better with the new brown shingle roofs.

-->Do note that it will overwrite whichever models you are using in the Rift so do back them up if you are unsure!<--

FAQ:

Q: Will this effect my frame-rate?
A: I tested and saw no drop in frame-rate but I have a pretty good computer. It shouldn't cause any noticeably drop but do expect there to be a possibility depending on your rig and mod set up. Alternatively if you do experience a frame-drop then I'd look at your ENB settings first.

Q: I have found a bug/problem! What do I do?
A: Report the bug in the bug panel. And I will see what I can do.

Q: Is 'X' compatible with Norsified Riften?
A: This is a model replacer. It will be compatible with just about everything aside from any other mod which overwrites the meshes and textures.

Q: May I use your meshes and/or textures in my own mod?
A: Ask permission. I do not own everything in the mod, but even so I am comfortable making sure I know who makes use of my own content. You will also have to ask Redbag, Nicola89b and Yuril.

Q: May I re-upload your mod at another mod sharing website?
A: No. This mod is -Mine- and on the Nexus only. If I find out you've stolen this mod or uploaded it as part of some mod-pack then I will be very angry with you.

Q: I don't like this mod. It is not for me.
A: I am sorry to hear that. Norisifed Riften is a Project that I have created with myself in mind. I hope you find a model replacer that suits your preferences.

Q: Are you still working on Holds? It has been a while since you've updated the mod.
A: Yes! Join our discord channel, I try to share updates and screenshots as often as I can but this next update is a very big one and I want to take my time with it. I am sorry though that it is taking so long, this next update is quite a mouthful to chew through.
