Tattoos of Skyrim

Version 1.0.1
17 July 2023
Borgut1337

This mod randomly assigns tattoos (RaceMenu overlays for the body) to various types of enemy NPCs such as Bandits, Forsworn, and Reavers. Does not include any overlays, you'll have to install any you like yourself!

Requirements
- PAPER version 2.1.0 (note that this version was only released today!)
- RaceMenu
  - NOTE: make sure to set bPlayerOnly=0 in RaceMenu's /SKSE/Plugins/skee64.ini file, otherwise no overlays will be visible on NPCs.
  - If you're on Skyrim 1.5.97, make sure to also install RaceMenu 0.4.16 Memory Leak Hotfix (SE)
- PapyrusUtil
- SPID
- RMB SPIDified - Core
  - NOTE: version 3.0.0 or greater should be used. This is only a soft requirement, and if you prefer you may also use my mod without this. You will only miss out on tattoos for Reavers (in Solstheim), and Mage-specific ones for Bandit Mages (but they'll still get to use non-mage-specific ones).
- You must also install one or more mods that actually contain overlay textures: see below.

Description
- Has a chance of randomly assigning tattoos (body overlays) to Bandits, Forsworn, and Reavers.
  - Other types of NPCs may be considered in future versions, but I will probably stick to ones that frequently wear sufficiently revealing armor in the vanilla game such that bodypaints are likely to actually be visible.
- Some kinds of tattoos are only given to specific factions (bandits/forsworn), races, sexes, or class (mage vs. not-mage), but there is also a lot of overlap.
- Some tattoos cover large parts of the body, others may be smaller / harder to see (sometimes only an arm, only a leg, only the back, etc.).
- Forsworn have the highest chance of getting an overlay (100%, although some may get hidden even by their armor), followed by Bandit/Reaver bosses, followed by non-boss Bandits/Reavers.
- No overlays assigned to hands/feet/faces (because of no overlays on faces, also no CTDs when decapitating NPCs).
- For NPCs that already have warpaints (on their face), any new bodypaints will generally have approximately the same colour as their warpaint.

Installing Overlay Textures
- There are no specific overlay mods that you must install, but you should at least install some. If you don't install any, my mod won't have any tattoos to give to NPCs.
- The following overlay mods are supported. My mod can automatically recognise any textures installed from them
and use them, but will also recognise if they are not installed and then it won't try to use them. My personal recommendation would be to install them all:
  -
KJ Tattoos
  - The Coenaculi
  - RaceMenu Overlay Compilation
  - UNP and CBBE RaceMenu SE Collection of Tattoos Warpaints and Overlays
  - Community Overlays 1
  - Yyvengar Bodypaint
  - Community Overlay 3
  - Barbarian Bodypaints
  - Community Overlays 2
  - Ziovdendian Bodypaint
  - Simple Belly Paints
  - Beast Race Bodypaints
  - Weathered Nordic Bodypaints
  - THeHAG's and BladeSinger's Private Body Tattoos and Overlays
  - Dunmer Overlays for RaceMenu

- For all of the above overlay mods, if they come with loose textures, my mod can still detect them even if the corresponding .esp/.esl/.esm file is not installed. However, if they pack their textures in .bsa files, you'll have to make sure that the .esp/.esl/.esm file is also activated (such that the .bsa is loaded by the game), or you'll have to unpack the .bsa.
- When installing overlay mods, make sure to pick and choose those files that are appropriate for whichever body mod(s) you are using. Some of the mods by DomainWolf have options to choose either female or male textures in the main files, but also have separate male textures as loose files in the Miscellaneous downloads section. For these, I assume that you install female textures (either UNP or CBBE) from the main files, and male textures from the Miscellaneous files.

Installation
Same as any other standard mod, recommend installing using a Mod Manager. Note that the mod has many hard and soft requirements! Safe to install mid-game (and probably also safe to uninstall, although tattoos on NPCs currently stored in your saved game will probably linger).

See Also
- Distributed Bodypaints and Overlays:
this mod also distributes overlays among many NPCs, but is not restricted to "random" enemy NPCs like Bandits and Forsworn.

(In)compatibilities
- No known incompatibilities. Will technically probably even function correctly together with Distributed Bodypaints and Overlays, though my mod is probably unnecessary if you already use that one.
