About this mod
A comprehensive collection of bugfixes and improvements for the mod "The Republic of Maslea"

This patch is built against the current version 2.12 of Maslea, and should only be used with this specific version. I'm planning to update the patch ASAP whenever anthelius releases an update, so there won't be any conflicts with future versions of Maslea.
IMPORTANT: The patch is in English only. It probably works with the French version of Maslea, but then everything the patch touches will turn into English.
- OVERVIEW OF CHANGES -
The changes in this patch are far too numerous to be listed here. If you're interested, read the file "UROMP - Changelog.txt" that is included with the mod. These are just some of the highlights:
- Every time you load a game, the mod checks if SKSE and Fuz Ro D'oh are correctly installed and working. If it's not the case, a warning message appears on screen.
- If the player doesn't know both the Unrelenting Force and Whirlwind Sprint shouts when accepting the first task from Carlina, the game now asks if it should teach the shouts. You can still decline and learn them normally through the Skyrim main quest. Thus the addon plugin for non-Dragonborns from the original mod is no longer needed.
- Traveling on the Slave Queen between Maslea and Skyrim now takes five days. All relevant time related variables are adjusted accordingly. Using Creation Club Survival Mode, your needs won't increase, so there's no danger of starving. However, if any other survival mod takes the time jump into account, you can disable this feature by typing in the console: set 00GVDontPassTime to 1
- Fixes a problem that can lead to stuck events in your game during the rum bottles quest, and eventually to stack dumps. (Unfortunately, affected savegames can't be cleaned retroactively. You need to use Fallrim Tools if you're getting stack dumps caused by MSAVrhumscript.)
- When talking to Sigrippa to start the initiation trial, sometimes the game thinks that you still have followers with you, even if you have dismissed everyone. This is due to some unknown faulty mod. Changed a dialogue condition so you can still continue in this case.
- Fixed a case that would prevent the Milvion-Elydyn scene in Fort Palios from playing out, if Milvion is still in combat mode for some reason. This was a potential plot stopper.
- Fixed persuading Alcis during the quest "A little service"
- Reenabled Elinas "special reward". There was already dialogue for it, but it wasn't used. To get it you have to pass a very hard speech check, or wear either the Amulet of Articulation or the Smooth Talker amulet. The scene itself is simply fade to black, but it gives you the (vanilla) Lover's Comfort boost.
- Fixed Rufeon being unable to follow you past some spots inside the Temple of Morihaus.
- Fixed several scenes failing in the quest "Free Enterprise" due to combat situations, which would break the quest.
- In the quest "The girl in red", Emmenlos is now hanging in the shackles when you find him, and later he actually runs toward the portal (as he says).
- The player now gets to own a shack in the harbor area on Aventina Island, once he joined the Brotherhood.
- Extended the notoriously cramped Happy Whalers tavern in Paluseuil. Finally some room to breathe. The player can rent a bed from Hiera (the inkeeper). Hiera, Exxanii, Sintixiui Wak, and Elina now have their own designated beds.
- Crystal Shards now look like actual crystals, rather than turquoise-colored pebbles.
- Re-added rigid rifle models from the mod "Project Flintlock" that were used as static objects in the game, but were not included in Maslea's resources.
IMPORTANT: Some of the changes may only take effect in a new game, or on a cleaned save. This has to do with how Skyrim works, some things bake into your savegame. There's a script that updates some important stuff when you load UROMP for the first time, but it can't do everything. So it's recommended (albeit not absolutely necessary) that you start using this mod on a clean save.
- TEXT FIXES -
A note on text fixes and improvements: In many cases it just comes down to things like style and punctuation, and slight changes to expression. I'm not a native English speaker myself, and I don't claim my work to be perfect. I already helped anthelius in the past to fix the worst examples of "Frenglish". But still, every time I played through the mod, I noticed some sentences that didn't look right to me, so I felt the need to correct them.
- THINGS I CAN'T / WON'T FIX -
- CTD when leaving the Caelia mine. This is certainly related to a cutscene starting at this point. The scene will get stuck if Fuz Ro D'oh isn't correctly installed, but it should not crash to desktop. If you still have problems, you can download the optional file which replaces the scene with a simple message box.
- LOD issues in the Maslea worldspace: There are a couple of low-resolution tree LODs which don't unload. This is usually a sign of a LOD object not finding its corresponding full-resolution object, for example when a tree has been moved or removed after the LOD has been generated. This can only be solved by regenerating LOD for the whole worldspace, but since many resources haven't been included in the official download, doing this myself would only make things worse. That's something only anthelius can do.
- PLANS FOR FUTURE FIXES/IMPROVEMENTS -
These are issues that will likely take a lot of work to fix for relatively little gain, so I'm going to tackle them in future UROMP updates. There's nothing game breaking anyway.
- Shivering Isles worldspace: The world map shows no terrain. Rebuilding terrain LOD in xLODGen does not fix it. Instead, it complains about invalid floating point operations when creating textures for a good number of cells, and renders black squares onto the LOD tile textures. I've not been able to find the cause.
- Oblivion Realm worldspace: Lava surrounding the island only exists in a limited area, and loads as the player approaches (no LOD). Actually these are placed static tiles, rather than worldspace water, which looks not very lava-like. Because they're fairly complex models, flagging them as full LOD and adding a lot more of them would tank performance. Need to create LOD models for them and regenerate object LOD for the worldspace.
- Censer model (Blood Canes quest): While it displays fine when placed in the game world, in the inventory view only the embers are visible. I've tried everything to fix the .nif model (it's Stroti's skooma pipe btw.), but to no avail.
- Hiera's legs clip through her clothes when she walks. The dress needs to be redone in Outfit Studio.
- Some of the food items show weird behavior when dropped. They probably need their Havok collision rebuilt.
- FINAL REMARKS -
I'm aware that many of you probably won't notice much of a difference when you'll play through Maslea again with this patch. After all, the absence of a bug or a glitch is far less striking than encountering the bug itself. But overall, it should make for a more polished experience.
I also want to thank Bel Geode for his Maslea playthrough on YouTube, for pointing out bugs and examples of bad English (and correcting them on the fly). That's actually what got this project started. Apart from that, the videos are really entertaining and well done, so go watch them, folks!
