About this mod

Class-based muscularity for NPC and exclusive muscularity for the playable character.

.: Overview :.

Unique Physique is meant to be an universal manager of normal maps for NPC and the playable character.

For NPC, it works as an alternative to
CBBE Muscle Solution, using SPID to distribute new skin records instead. Trade-offs:
- Adding SPID as a requirement. (At this point, everybody should be using it already);
- Having to move files to a new location. (A command line tool is provided to do all the dirty work for you);
- Not covering PC. (The playable character is going to be handled separately, which ends up being a desirable feature);
+ Simpler and smaller installation;
+ Fewer or no conflicts to solve;
+ Way more customization. (Including the ability to use male textures).

For PC, it works as a stripped version of Unique Character, without affecting head parts and diffuse maps. Trade-offs:
- Less customization. (Because your character keeps sharing some textures with NPC);
+ Simpler and smaller installation;
+ Fewer or no conflicts to solve.

.: Features :.

  • Distribute muscles to NPC based on their class and profession (no more ripped innkeepers and wenches, if you want so).
  • Apply separate levels of muscularity for playable character and NPC.
  • Supports any kind of textures (male, female, UNP, CBBE, etc.) from any mods.
  • Combine female and male textures from different mods that otherwise would be incompatible.
  • Ensure compatibility with any NPC appearance overhauls without patches.
  • Use a specialized tool, made with MO2 in mind, to copy textures from other mods.
  • Customize everything to your liking in a neat fomod installation.
  • Keep your load limit intact with plugins that are flagged as light.

.: Requirements :.

Spell Perk Item Distributor (SPID), version
6 or newer.
At least
3 normal maps with increasing muscularity (The ideal is 11 maps).

- The following mods have great and wide sets of textures ready for use (NSFW):
Unique Physique uses the same file standards of Shieldmaiden Muscle Slider and CBBE Muscle Solution. That means it requires sets of 11 normal maps numbered from 1 (minimum muscularity) to 11 (maximum muscularity). Ripped Bodies uses a different standard, so its files must be adapted in order to be recognized. Luckily, Unique Physique's command line tool is also prepared to adapt files during transference.

.: Compatibility :.

The textures you choose for torso must match the ones for head and hands. Otherwise, you'll get neck and wrist seams.
- The mods mentioned above either come with matching textures out-of-the-box or their pages point out to available patches.

Racial Skin Variation (RSV) and Race-Based Textures (RBT) are mostly incompatible.
- Since they modify original skin records, their body changes will be overridden by
Unique Physique. However, changes made to head parts will persist.

Unique Character and Unique Player are incompatible with PC's muscular variation.
- Patches for both mods are available.

.: Installation :.

Detailed Guide
Spoiler:
Show
Once you have installed
SPID and all the textures you need, it's time to install Unique Physique.

The default installation includes:
  • Core plugin with all new skin records;
  • A script to assign an exclusive skin to playable character, regardless of sex and race (if PC muscularity is enabled);
  • INI files configured to distribute your skin of choice only to Elven and Human female (if NPC muscularity is enabled);
  • Command line tool to copy files from mods you have installed and;
  • Folders ready to be filled in with textures.

You can customize your installation to, for example:
  • Enable muscular variation on hand maps;
  • Include male NPC or beast races in the skin distribution;
  • Select different patterns of muscular variation and more.

There are
5 patterns of muscular variation to choose from and they only apply to NPC:
  • Constant : Same muscularity at all weights;
  • Linear : Min at 0 weight and max at 100 (most recommended);
  • Peak : Min at 0 and 100 weight and max at 50;
  • Reverse Linear : Max at 100 weight and min at 0;
  • Reverse Peak : Max at 0 and 100 weight and min at 50.

Each pattern has
3 ranges of muscularity based on NPC's class or profession:
  • Smooth (min 1, max ~4) : Spellcasters and light workers;
  • Shaped (min 1, max ~7) : Marksmen, thieves and heavy workers;
  • Strong (min 1, max 11) : Warriors, guards and soldiers.

Anyone who doesn't belong in these groups will use the game's default skin. This includes innkeepers, wenches, merchants, citizens in general, as well as all vampire NPC. Obviously, these are arbitrary choices I made. If you disagree with something, you can easily edit the INI files to your liking.

Now you just have to fill in
Unique Physique's folders with the textures you got. This can be done manually or you can use the provided command line script to automate the process. To learn how to use it, please, read its documentation.
Uninstall Guide (Only applicable if scripts were used to enable muscularity on PC)

  • Remove Unique Physique from your mod list.
  • Load and save the game. Ignore the warning about a missing plugin.
  • Clean up that save file. I recommend you use ReSaver and follow their instructions.
  • Load the clean save and keep playing!

.: Load Order :.

Unique Physique core plugin can be placed anywhere. Any patches must be loaded after their masters.
