Changelogs
Version 1.11
Mini change. Safe to update mid-game.
Changed the text of one of the journal entries, to make it compatible with "Aetherium Forge Destroys Items". If you destroy the sword instead of giving it to a Vigilant of Stendarr, this will be reflected in the journal and advance the quest.
Just published a new mod today, check it out: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/113255/

The issue some people were having with the quest not initializing should now be resolved. It was a matter of temporary vs persistent records. Thanks to VictorF as well as Colinswrath for helping me figure this one out.
There was a lot of confusion regarding the rumors and Hulda. Thing is: Users of CC mods have an additional hurdle to get the quest started: Bethesda unfortunately reused the "rumors" general topic from Hulda for a lot of their CC quests. This means that to get "The Whispering Door" rumor that starts the quest, you must first exhaust ALL the dialogue from jobs and rumors from CC and THEN the vanilla ones will continue (including the one that starts whispering door). HobbyKing suggested adding a way to get the quest some other way that doesn't force you to spam your quest log with CC quests, and here it is!
Alternative method: Once the requirements have been met (Dragon Rising must be completed + you must be over level 20*) Hulda will mention strange rumors about the children roughly once every 12 hours until you speak to her about it and get the quest.
If you don't want to wait for Hulda or in case she's somehow dead, you can also get the quest from the bard Mikael. Mikael can be asked for rumors at any time once the requirements are met.
If the sword is given to a Vigilant of Stendarr for safe-keeping, it will be transported to a physical safe location after some time, instead of completely disappearing. Thanks to TateTaylorOH for the suggestion.
*Regarding the level requirement: In vanilla you must be at least level 20 to start the quest AND have completed Dragon Rising AND exhaust all CC "rumors" from Hulda until you get the quest. The level requirement might be changed by mods such as Timing is Everything (still compatible with this quest expansion), but please be aware of this.
