So I've been slowly reworking this voice pack in my spare time, re-acquiring all the voice lines through sounds-resource.com and DAO itself, editing this and that, and finally getting it in a somewhat useable state for use in my next playthrough. Then I thought why not share the new version on Nexus. And... there you go.
Before I ramble on, I have to say there is nothing wrong with the first version. The new version isn't a bugfix or anything, it's just a slightly redone version. More voice lines (some categories have up to 9 to 10 lines), better lines relocation (I've learned that I'm not a fan of putting too much combat taunts on Attack/Bash/Power Attack),
Scroll down to "Some other stuff" section below to see what I've added.
~
No one has made it before, so I made it.
Lines taken from Dragon Age: Origins. I didn't find all of the lines I wanted, unfortunately, and thus some categories are still severely lacking (Locations, Magic).
Absolutely no reference to Grey Wardens, Darkspawn, Thedas, or any other Dragon Age stuff. Some lines are spliced, others edited with care.
Requires PC Head Tracking & Voice Type to work. Set frequency to around 50%-85% depending on how chatty you want your character to be. Set custom voice volume to around 90-75%.
Some more stuff:
- 1.1 - Some categories include 9 to 10 lines:
- Sneak
- Block (1-5 are combat grunts, 6-10 are taunts)
- Friendly Heal & Friendly Hit
- Hit (getting attacked)
- Killmove & Killmove Finish
- Ready Weapon
- Dungeon
- Lockpicking & Lockpicking Finish
Making your own edits is super easy. Open PC Headtracking and Voice type.esp in SSEdit, wait for it to load, open the dropdown under Sound Descriptor and find the category you want to edit. On the right side of the screen, right-click on the "Sounds" column (here's a screenshot from the LE page for reference), click "Add", and it'll basically add a blank file path for the sound category to find. Drag and drop any of the existing entries to the blank file path, and change the number of the ".wav" at the end to "06.wav", "07.wav", and so on and so forth. Save the plugin.
Too confusing? Yeah, me too. If you're new to SSEdit, just think of the program like an Excel sheet. Or find someone else's esp edit.
- The Random subcategory have 15... err, questionable cheesy lines. Seriously, I ripped them so long ago that when I heard them in-game I was like, "what the f*ck was I thinking?" But they're hilarious fodders to respond to
(If you prefer the flirty greeting lines instead, delete tthe contents inside the Random folder, download the 1.0 version and and copy+paste the lines from that version's random folder, into version 1.1's Random folder. If that makes sense. Man, I need to learn to write better tutorials.)
- Because the lines are taken from Dragon Age, some voice lines will reference a companion, a.k.a. it's best to pair this voicepack with a follower or two, else it will sound quite... lonely. Things like "We are not alone..." when the player is sneaking, etc. If you play solo, just pretend he's talking to himself and/or breaking the forth wall by referring to the player/you controlling him. Or something. (1.1 - this version is even more not solo-friendly. More lines reference the presence of a companion in ways that I can't simply edit out. I've thought about making a solo player version too, but that would require thinning out a lot of lines that it's just not worth it anymore... or you can simply roleplay your dude as someone who talks to himself a lot. That's what I do.)
- Vanilla MaleEvenToned shouts don't really fit this voice, unfortunately. If this bothers you, I suggest Nordic Shouts - Enigma Series for the more badass, deeper pitched vanilla shouts that... still don't really fit this voice, but much better than vanilla ones. Convert the voice lines using Fuz Renamer, available in PC Head Tracking's LE mod page under optional files. Full instruction on how to do that is detailed in that mod page's description.
OR, go the easy route and download the optional shout files I provided. It's not from Nordic Shouts, per se--I made it a long time ago for personal use, It's basically just vanilla MaleEvenToned shouts pitched down a few octaves to sound more demonic. No fancy echoes like in Nordic Shouts. Grab it as a last resort if Fuz Renamer doesn't work for you, or if you just hate the extra work.
