About this mod
Actively blocking with a shield will grant minor magic/elemental resistances and poison immunity. You will also get a minor movement speed penalty and one handed skill penalty diminishing with blocking skill.

Using a shield has little impact on the gameplay compared to wielding a one handed weapon standalone. Carrying the extra weight and some projectile protection is pretty much it. The extra weight is even almost irrelevant unless you use some encumbrance mod. You also for some reason can get sick after a skeever bites your shield.
Functionality
This mod drastically changes how using a shield in combat feels by applying several effects regarding damage mitigation, movement speed and damage output. Applies to player and NPCs with the use of SPID. Script free. Check the linked video in the media section for a quick showcase.
Features
- Gain 10% resistance to fire, frost, shock and magic resistance when blocking with a shield.
- Gain 100% resistance to poison and disease immunity when blocking with a shield.
- Gain elemental resistances based on the material of the shield being actively used for blocking. The conditions are inspired on KYE Armors.
- 0-10 movement speed nerf when blocking with a shield. Every 25 levels on blocking you will be removing a penalty of 2.5. After 75 you will only lose 2.5.
- 0-10 one handed skill nerf based on blocking skill. Every 25 levels on blocking you will be removing a penalty of 2.5. After 90 blocking there are no penalties. This applies only when actively wearing a shield (weapons out).
Except poison and disease immunity, every buff and nerf is doubled when using a heavy shield. The "heaviness" of the shield is detected based on if the shield has the keyword ArmorShieldHeavy. This tagging is handled separately by Shield Weight Keywords with the use of KID.
Caveats
The damage mitigation doesn't consider the direction the attack is coming from. For that the mod would need some heavy lifting. You might not wanna try and cheese this since you will also move slower.
Installation
Place in Data folder/ use mod manager.
Customization
Use the MCM to toggle some resistances, movement speed and/or one handed penalty on/off.
Updating
Spell would need re-distribution, also applies to customizing the values in xEdit.
