This is just the results of an experiment I did porting many dozens of different Skyrim SE mods into Enderal (SE version). There were so few
Enderal mods on the Enderal SE site that I thought about porting Skyrim
SE mods into the game. With three exceptions (e.g. Phenderix Magic
Evolved, Inigo), they worked perfectly. I loaded small mods e.g. mark
and recall, to 1 GB plus mods (e.g. the Mihail series of mods, immersive
armours) to medium size mods (e.g. enchanting overhauls, magic
overhauls, etc). I ran multiple games, with many different mods. I
suspect I could load up the 255 limit of Skyrim SE mods without issue.
What gives the game problems is any mod that is linked to a quest
specific to Skryim SE. Be VERY careful of those.

I also loaded three different follower mods - in one game all three at the same time.
These worked with only one small warning (that Dawnguard was missing).  I
loaded multiple individual follower mods. These add on NPCs did not
show up in game - no idea if they are there somewhere in Enderal waiting
to be found or just electrons floating around my computer. If someone
can point me to where they might be e.g. Liam, that would be great! I
had to use the console command to make copies appear. I even added
Farkas! All 5 of my followers / companions appeared. I used the recruit
spell on them and they seamlessly added to my game including the
dialogue options (e.g. equipment, spells, romance, etc). I then used the
recruit spell on Jespar. Three different warning screens came up saying
that this could break the Enderal quests, that frogs and flaming rain
would fall from the sky and the sun would turn to black. None of this
occurred. The quests continued on as per normal - no glitches at all
except for one thing - if I summoned Jespar (teleport spell), and he was
supposed to be at another location, he would immediately run to that
location. If that location was far away I would have to wait up to 1.5
days in game time for him to arrive. Be aware of that. Another issue is
that giving Jespar non Enderal armour results in no body meshes other
than head and hands. I could give him any in game armour without issue
but anything from Skyrim SE mods  did not work. Giving him weapons from
any Skyrim SE mods was not an issue. Same for shields. Relationship
dialogue overhauls, romance overhauls were also not an issue.

The MCM menus also appeared for all the various mods.

I did not load / use ENBs.

I did load a variety of other overhauls without issue.

So, my computer did not burst into flames. Alduin did not reach through the
screen and grab me. It appears there is almost a 97% success rate in
using Skyrim SE mods in Enderal.

    Happy gaming!

There is now a Enderal (forgotten stories) SSE version. It can be downloaded from steam.

regarding the enderal convertion for skyrim SE VR,
I compiled fs.dll which  is required, and modified a script to make the meditation working correctly
    these are available here: https://gofile.io/d/um81nB

this archive contains tree meshes which seem to work, but uncheck the option "skined trees" in settings
    https://gofile.io/d/J7XedJ

With tes5edit, i recommend to change all the eyes of the possessed NPCs (this tends to lead to crashes)
With that, I was able to perform a complete playthrough (2,3 quests are still bugged though)

Hi, i just come across this topic looking for a way to run enderal with skyrim vr.
Can you tell me if i undestand correctly: you actually made enderal work in vr ? If yes, can you tell me if the files in your post is enough to make it run or do i need other things ?
      Thanks in advance,
      Tom

Unfortunately, I m' not allowed to upload a complete package.
I recommend to follow this guide and this one : https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Hishutup/Unofficial_Enderal_Port
There are also some good tips here :https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/38263?tab=description

I can add some facegen data and a patch for the possessed NPCs

Keep in mind that it is playable, but many bugs still persist .

With the release of Enderal for SE in March 2021 won't that be our solution for Enderal VR?

Sure AI announced they were working on a commercial project of their own and was not going to add support for Enderal due to time constraints. Since news of this Skyrim Special Edition conversion started making the rounds, it looks like Sure AI is now going to come out with official support for Enderal on Skyrim Special Edition. You can find the information for this release on their home page here https://sureai.net/games/enderal/. The official Enderal Forgotten Stories for Skyrim Special Edition is set to be released in March 2021.

Perhaps they are using some of these community made conversion files or are making thier own, I don't know but at least it looks like official support for Skyrim Special Edition is going to happen and thats a good thing.

    Great job, thanks.
with this and some patches available here and there, I was able to have a playable enderal in SSE VR (vrik ans some mods work as well)
I had to convert some meshes (hand of children in my case) with nif optimiser
only the wispertree foliage remains blanck whatever I tried with my limited skills with nifskope. Any advice ?

well i was going to get on steam and get the og skyrim but apparently it  has been taken down. I was going to use SE as my main modded platform and use the og for the oldrim exclusive mods but now its gotta be a hassle

Steam/Enderal.com/Sureai.net Tells Me I Don't Have the Base Game, I Have TES:V SE

It does the same thing when I try ti download the 2016 Enderal game.

I have Skyrim SE game installed on it’s own drive. Been modding for 2.5 yrs.
I do not have the LE version at all.

When I try to install the mod, I go thru the install process, Steam thinks about it for a sec then spits up a window:

Steam – Cannot install Enderal: Forgotten Stories
Enderal: Forgotten Stories is a mod, and requires you to own a version of the base game.

Clicking on the “Get more info” just takes me back to Steam’s main Enderal page.
    https://store.steampowered.com/app/933480/Enderal_Forgotten_Stories/

This mod or the mod guide Reddit basically just says 'get a copy of the mod and download it'.
    Well, II tried that.
What have I done wrong, or have forgotten to do?

Enderal is based on "oldrim", so it needs the base game from that version (or Legendary Edition, which includes the DLC), not Special Edition.

... While it's cool and all, I don't really see the point if you already have oldrim. Enderal runs smoother and more stably for me even with loads of mods installed, and it looks pretty gorgeous already. I'm afraid I don't much see the point in porting it to SE...

It's because oldrim runs really bad, sub 30 fps especially in cities.
She doesn't have the problem to the same degree.
I was able to maintain over a hundred fps during testing.
