What's this?  An update??  After nearly four long years of silence??!

That's right, and it's an update that renders this mod obsolete (unless you like being limited to only vanilla stuff sorting.)

To celebrate Skyrim turning 10, I have completely rebuilt this mod from the ground up, and this time I decide to ignore my previous no-SKSE limitation and create a version that will truly last for the lifetime of this wonderful game.  The new version is fundamentally the same in terms of how it works and what it's intended for, but I've redone everything from scratch.  There are no reused cells or assets, this new version lives completely separately from its predecessor.  It will now sort every item in the game, including those added by mods (assuming the mod authors have done their jobs correctly and added keywords to all their custom items.).  I know that might not seem like much, but it was a fundamental shift in how the mod operated and, since I lost the original files years ago, required a complete rebuild.

You can find this new version here:
    The Hoarder's Chest - Rebuilt

Thank you to everyone who has used this mod over the years.  I'm glad that I was able to make your playthrough more enjoyable.  I hope that you will join me with the new version and continue to enjoy The Hoarder's Chest with its expanded capabilities.  This version of the mod will remain for any who want to use it for a mostly-vanilla playthrough, but I will not be supporting it any more (not that I've done a great job of that recently anyways...)

I hope to see all of you in the posts of the new mod, as it really does make me happy to see that I've had a positive impact on your time with Skyrim!

    Consider this is a spoiler.

For people as lazy as I who wants to get the Hoarder's Teleport Spell Book as early as Prisoner escape before exiting the 1st dungeon.
hit "~" to get into console command mode
    Type help Hoarder
    use pageup to scroll up
find item code of Hoarder's Teleport Spell Book
    0900AD4A  in my case
    Last, type

    Player.additem 0900AD4A 1

    to get the spell book
type "~" to exit console command
check inventory and active Hoarder's Teleport Spell

If this is not enough, one can place adventurer's basement Hatch next to the fake hatch(or just cover it up).
Now you can get into two player houses/storages areas with one spell. If you like displaying items in real time.

I prefer spell solution, then something carrying around in my inventory.

FYI, I am a real hoarder and I have 10 to hundreds thousands of items in Breezehome. I load them up and crawling. Fire up the spell. Push the button, but it only unload 1% weight. I use player.removeallitems to dump the rest of my inventory into armor weapon container. I am naked with less than 20 quest items in the inventory.

The one thing that really bothered me is that none of my friends on the server will be able to see all my cool stuff displayed if I put them in here, but then I remembered this isn't Minecraft or some World of Warcraft garrison so it doesn't matter LOL For those looking for it, go to Ilinalta's Deep, walk north on the wooden dock, go through the large archway then walk straight north about 20 feet. It's between a couple big pine trees. The cave will NOT be on your HUD display. You go in, kill a troll, loot a dead guy up on a ledge inside, then open the chest. I had to open it twice. You can use the portal spell from the desk (in the chest) to get back in it from anywhere. This mod is perfect for storing everything. I have no idea why there are so many mannequins but hey, that's not me. I would like to see more specific trophy areas and an oven but I may try to tackle that myself. (the oven, not the trophy areas lol) The auto loot is great. (main button in the middle) I have no idea what the deal is with the fern or the trap door that doesn't work (if you downloaded the extra displays) but maybe time will tell. All in all this is going to end up being my new favorite "home" mod.

Edit: I just realized you can bring followers in and make this their new home (with another mod) so this is going to end up being a traveling party!!! Disco balls??

Another edit: Tried to change things inside. It won't let me. This is why I don't make my own mods LOL

First off, I'm really glad that you're enjoying the mod.  I'll be happy to address your questions.

1: You used the extra displays addon.  That nearly doubled the number of mannequins and was made in direct response to a handful of users who said there weren't enough mannequins or weapon displays.  There are so many sets of armor in this game, and if you're the type of person the chest is geared towards, the kind who likes to do and keep everything, then the base mod's mannequins really can't show off everything.  Mostly, I just wanted to go a little nuts because I already thought there was a ton, and then people said they wanted more. :p

2:  I'm not sure what you mean by trophy areas.  I've covered all the unique collectible items aside from weapons and armor.

3: The fireplace with the cooking pot was the sort of oven-type thing I went with.  I thought about doing an actual oven but decided it didn't fit with the aesthetic.

4: When you turn the ferns off all the pots that were holding them become additional planters.  You can then turn the ferms back on to get a sort of dual-plant appearance.  Another user found that some of the mushrooms in the game looked really nice mixed in with the ferns.

5: The trapdoor is an unrealized idea I had for a sub-basement that had companion quarters and a unique weapon museum.  Unfortunately, the original mod files have become lost, so I don't think I'll ever be able to bring this idea to fruition.  That trapdoor wasn't supposed to be included in the mod files, but I missed turning it off before finishing everything up.  I had so much trouble getting the addon file to work correctly with the base mod that I was too scared to go in and fix it.  Now, sadly, I can't, so it sits there as a reminder of my unfinished idea.

If you'd like to make adjustments, I think this is what you'll have to do:

      1. In the mod manager, under file, start a new mod.
      2. Make sure that all the base game files are checked (the mod uses all the base game / DLC master files, so you need to make sure they're loaded.)
      3. Make sure that The Hoarder's Chest and Extra Displays are both checked.
      4. Make sure that nothing is marked as "Active"
      5. Once everything has loaded, save it as a new mod and name it whatever you want.
      6. Make the modifications and addition you'd like to see.  I believe you can delete the trapdoor.  If not, just move it outside the bounds of the chest.
      7. Add in your oven, and any other additions you'd like to see.
      8. Save the mod.
      9. In the mod loader or in Vortex, add the mod and make sure it loads after both The Hoarder's Chest and Extra Displays.

I'll be honest, I remember having problems getting everything to play nice, but I hope you're able to get it just how you'd like.  I also haven't tried modding since I started using the new Vortex manager, so I don't know how everything will play together.  I have no issues with people modifying the Chest, I just ask that no one upload their own versions without permission.

Have Fun, and again, I'm glad you're enjoying The Chest!!

I know its a bit late for this but you can use Jaxons Positioner to simply make a copy of any Oven in the game and then place it in the Hoarders Chest wherever you want. the benefit of this is you can do it in game and dont need the Creation kit. The oven will work perfectly too. i do it all the time with house mods that dont have one.

Having serious issues with getting the mod to work. Seems I'm the only person here that had no issue finding the cave or key but can't access the home because it's acting like just a chest. The journal spoke of a teleport spell but that never showed up in my inventory or spellbook. I've scoured the entire cave and looted anything I could, still no dice. Placed stuff in the chest, took it back out, left and entered the cave again, etc.

Is there something super obvious I'm missing? Hopefully it's just that

Edit: I've searched the sunken fort and ship mentioned in the journal. Still no sign of how to get into the chest or teleport spell

Edit 2: took a few reinstalls but I finally got into the chest. For anyone else that just got the mod, the teleport book is on the settings table by the bed

I apologize for your troubles getting into the chest.  I've never had, nor seen, that problem before.  I'm glad that you were able to get it working!

There is no body on top of the slope to the right of the cave entrance, inside it. I can't find a key.

I managed to solve it. I don't know if it was the auto harvest mod I was using. I turned off the mod, logged out of the game, uninstalled the mod, got in, the body was there, got the key and everything is fine ...

For this to be the mod of my dreams, only if the loot was automatically for each chest as soon as I collected the items from the bodies, the dead and the living, the chests etc.

I'm not familiar with the auto-harvest mod, but if it just collects items form dead bodies then you should have gotten the key when it did its thing. There are no triggers associated with examining the body, you just need the key.

As for sorting loot automatically, I don't believe there's a way to tie into the "item collected" event without SKSE, so that would not be possible with this mod. Even if it was possible, I don't think that would fit the theme of the Chest very well. I'm sorry that it's not exactly what you'd like, but I do hope you enjoy using The Chest during your adventures!

I love this mod! I wish I had it on my last big completionist playthrough because it would have looked amazing!

PS in my current playthrough I plan on putting all of my items into the chest and then story-wise not actually in game but as I'm about to die, I say"you want my treasure! You can have it! I've gathered it together in one place, you just have to find it!"

I'm really happy to hear that you enjoy the mod! I love your head cannon. If it's alright with you, and if I remember, I might incorporate it into the sequel if I remake the chest whenever ES6 comes out.

Ran around like a crazy person and could not find the unmarked cave where this is supposed to be.

Hey there, sorry for the delay, Were you able to find it? It's just a bit north of Ilinalta's Deep.

If not, are you running any other housing mods that may have modified the area? If you have extra displays as well, it's possible their load order isn't correct, that could cause the cave not to show up.

How am I supposed to open the chest? It says the chest is locked and the key is no where to be found

The key is on the body up the cliffside. He was hiding from the troll.

Apologies for the wait for a reply.

Is there a way to reset Display Locations? I love this mod, but for whatever reason certain items (some Bug Jars, Dragon Claws, etc) think that their location is on the floor directly in front of the display. Do you know what could cause this, and if there’s a way to fix it?

Unfortunately, I have never been able to figure out what causes that to happen. All of these objects are marked as static, and should not be impacted by the physics engine.

I have two suggestions for this. First, try picking all of the objects up, leaving the chest, saving and restarting the game, then going back in. That might reset their position and make them work right. In order to do this, you'll have to activate the place where they are supposed to be displayed, rather than the objects themselves. All the actual items are stored in a holder cell, what you see are just static duplicates meant to prevent this exact problem.

The other option is to empty the chest, unload the mod, save, and then reload the mod. Again, make sure you save and unload in a cell far away from the chest or the Hoarder's cave, otherwise it may cause the game to glitch out.

I get that neither of these options is ideal, and I really wish I had something better to tell you. I have no idea what causes this, and have spent a lot of time trying to solve it. I had thought about putting a reset button at one point, but never got around to it. Now I'm not sure if I could add that in without breaking the storage expansion mod.

Looks good so far, but it's a little early in my playthrough.

...I found a trap door next to the teleport pad to enter/exit the chest.... it does nothing though?

I had meant to remove that before uploading. That was supposed to access a planned expansion that sadly did not come to fruition.

My bookshelf books, paragons, and claw(s) are all over the place frozen in the air. I don't use any mods that change the books in any way, and I'm on the update where you say you changed the books around so this wouldn't happen.

    Here's a picture of the area https://i.imgur.com/C201F0w.jpg

I only have one claw though. There's also a golden ship model on the ground in front of the fireplace across from the bookshelf.

I've tried to fix this a bunch of times, and the books are spaced so that it shouldn't be happening... I'm sorry, but I don't really know how to address it at this point.

To retrieve the Paragons and claws, you'll have to activate where there are supposed to be in the display area. When you put them back it should fix the issue. For the books, unfortunately I don't know if there's a away to reset their position. You should be able to just pick them up to clean up the area, same with the Golden ship.
Some people also reported that it would eventually just go back to how it's supposed to be. I'm not sure how reliable that is though.

I'm really sorry for the trouble, I thought I'd fixed this issue. If I have some time I'll see about updating it again and spreading the books out a bit more. What's funny is that they're all tagged so that the physics engine shouldn't affect them. They should basically be considered 100% static. It's the weirdest thing....
