About this mod

Alternate Perspective is a great mod for giving you roleplay options for your character. This add-on integrates items from the base game and other mods to help you get started in the harsh yet beautiful world of Skyrim, where you can be anything you want to be.

Alternate Perspective - Alternate Start is my mod of choice for how I want my character to start their new life. I really liked how Algeddon added some items to the starting area, and I decided to expand on it a bit for my own game (and now decided to release it in case others liked these additions). My goal is not to "cheat" or add too many items, but to allow for more varied roleplay options when you are starting out. I didn't want to touch the original containers for compatibility purposes, so I added a new knapsack (if it really bothers people that it is seemingly bottomless, I will consider changing the type of container, but I wanted to be as unintrusive as possible). Within this bag, what you find is up to you, depending on what mods you have installed and what patches you choose. The point isn't to take everything, but to take the items that your character would have on them when setting out. If you want to go more hardcore, you don't have to take anything!

There is a basic patch (which is necessary for all additional patches)

There are patches for the following mods (the items added range from a single item to a variety that you can choose from):

CC Adventurer's Backpack (Requirements say it's required, but only for the patch!)

(if you pick more than one of these, you will need to do some conflict resolution in xEdit - see the Article for more info on how to do that)

And there is a merged patch that combines them all!

If you use more than one patch (but not the merged patch), you will need to create a bashed patch or a quick patch yourself to combine. For a quick tutorial on conflict resolution, check out the last section on my HELP! page on the Modding Skyrim website. I actually wrote it using plugins from this mod as examples!

If you have any requests or other mods you would like to see added, let me know and I'll see what I can do! If you are the mod author of any of the mods that I have integrated into Alternate Perspective, and you do NOT want me to have done so, please let me know and I will remove the respective patch. I apologize if I have done anything I shouldn't have, but as these are merely patches and do not include any of the original assets, I believe this is all above-board.

Oh, and for those of you that don't know, I have a website all about Modding Skyrim. Here's some info about it:

Modding Skyrim
A Resource Repository and Modder's Almanac

I want to help. That is why I created a website and guide, Modding Skyrim But it’s not a guide like you may be expecting; this is what I am calling a Modder’s Almanac. This is “a handbook, typically published annually, containing information of general interest or on a sport or pastime.” While I am not publishing this annually, I anticipate it needing to be updated regularly, as new mods are released every day and newer versions of modding tools and resources are released often.

For more information on why I wanted to do this, read this Reddit post.
This is very much a Work-in-Progress, so please provide feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. I just ask that you do so respectfully, to myself, those that created the mods/tools/resources, and to any others that contribute. Please join our Discord for additional help or for offering suggestions/feedback.
This is not a list of mods to install, nor is it a textbook on how to create and patch a modlist. This is a reference book on where to find all of that. There is a Glossary of terms you will encounter on your modding adventure, as well as a list of Tools you can use. There are links to modlists, of the Do-It-Yourself and of the Wabbajack variety. There is a list of YouTube videos that can be helpful if you are a more visual learner. There is some fun stuff here and there to de-stress when you crash for the fourth time in an hour, and there are suggestions on where to look for help in diagnosing the cause when you are ready to try again.

Some of the things I want to add to the site (and many of these are at least partially done):
  • Expanded tutorials on tools like DynDOLOD, xEdit, ENB, Synthesis, Nemesis, SPID, zMerge, CAO, Creation Kit, etc
  • Updated mods for all categories (so many have been released or updated since it was last updated!); Potentially adding in descriptions/reviews/screenshots for the ones I like/use
  • Wabbajack list reviews
  • Reference Sheets for various tools and more
  • More info on Vortex (my site is mostly centered on MO2 as that's what I use)
  • Expand my AE post into a tutorial (maybe?)
  • Basic (like REALLY basic) tutorials on creating mods in xEdit or CK - or at least have a separate section on some great tutorials (video and text) that are out there (again mostly leaning into the repository thing)
  • So many ideas for posts that I have been working on over time

About Me: (she/her)
I am an obsessive modder that has learned what seems like a significant amount since I started modding in early 2020, but I know that I have barely scratched the surface. I love the modding community and this is my way of giving back.
