About this mod

Alchemist-themed player home with 40 (!) hearthfire planter soils, a few of the basic crafting stations (alchemy, enchanting, tanning, cooking), a few beds for followers and 3 unique weapons. You can also choose from the provided patches if you want to seamlessly integrate some other mods into this player home.

Do you spend a significant amount of time wandering around Skyrim and beyond picking flowers, mushrooms, and more? Have you ever died while fighting a dragon because a butterfly flew by and you just had to have it? Or maybe you are just looking for a convenient starter home in the ever busy Riverwood area?

This mod is my version of the wonderful Alchemist's Retreat by NexusMGF, who was gracious enough to give me permission to upload. I love player home mods (always have way too many in my modlists) and this one was such a great location and idea, but I wanted to tweak a few things. So, I dug into it in the Creation Kit and xEdit and after many YouTube videos (thank you DarkFox127!) I felt like I had made a great home for my next Alchemist-themed playthrough. This is not the first mod I have ever created, but it is the first I have ever released, so please give me all the feedback (but be gentle lol). I definitely want to improve and hope to release more mods in the future! I have so many ideas....

Some info on the home:

  • Crafting stations include alchemy (....duh), enchanting, cooking, and a tanning rack
  • 40 (!) hearthfire planter soils and so many plants/mushrooms/etc all over the place
  • a bed for you and 3 bedrolls for followers
  • a few idle markers around the home (I love using Dovahkiin can lean Sit Kneel Lay down and Meditate etc too so that my player character can use them as well)
  • 3 unique weapons to be found
  • a bunch of safe storage, most named
  • I also added a blank journal, very creatively named "My Journal", in the Adventurer's Provisions knapsack in the front of the home - I wanted a physical book since I use Take Notes. It doesn't weigh anything and isn't worth anything (if I remember correctly from when I made it), but I just liked the little bit of added immersion.
  • located near Riverwood (leave town headed towards the bridge that will take you towards Whiterun and make an immediate right; there is a path to follow that will bring you to the cave entrance)

In addition, and I hope this is allowed, I have included integration patches for a variety of mods. I mostly made this for my own game, but figured others might like them. The mods you can have integrated into this one include:

(if you use more than one of these patches, you will most likely need to do some conflict resolution so that the items that I added to the containers in the home actually show up! The merged patch does this automatically for all of the mods included)
All of these require the original mod, as they simply add items from the mod(s) into the home. I may add to these in the future and I may add to the home as well. I am enjoying learning how to use the Creation Kit, so who knows what else I may want to add lol. (If any of the mod authors of the above mods that I have "patched" want me to remove it, please let me know! It's not a true patch, but merely a way to integrate items from these mods into my home. If you use these mods but don't want these "cheaty" methods of getting these items, feel free to skip the patch(es).) (For specifics on what is included, I can add a spoiler if anyone is interested; let me know in the posts section!)

Riverwood is the most popular location for player home mods, but well, I liked the location of the original mod that I used as the base, so I didn't change it. This will inevitably lead to conflicts with other mods in the area. I did test it with ETAC and did not have any issues, and I imagine that JK's Skyrim/Riverwood should also be okay.

Most of the screenshots were taken using the Septimus 3 Wabbajack list as a base; the rest were taken with my own personal modlist. I did change/add some things between my first "photo shoot" and second, so there will be some things that are different, but all improvements!

Finally, I did run the mod through LOOT and checked for errors in xEdit, so it should be good, but please let me know if you find anything wrong at all. I also tested it extensively, but this is my first released mod, so there are bound to be things I missed!

Febrith Darkstar did a lovely video reviewing the mod:

Thanks and hope you enjoy!

Oh, and for those of you that don't know, I have a website all about Modding Skyrim. Here's some info about it:

Modding Skyrim
A Resource Repository and Modder's Almanac

I want to help. That is why I created a website and guide, Modding Skyrim But it’s not a guide like you may be expecting; this is what I am calling a Modder’s Almanac. This is “a handbook, typically published annually, containing information of general interest or on a sport or pastime.” While I am not publishing this annually, I anticipate it needing to be updated regularly, as new mods are released every day and newer versions of modding tools and resources are released often.

For more information on why I wanted to do this, read this Reddit post.
This is very much a Work-in-Progress, so please provide feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. I just ask that you do so respectfully, to myself, those that created the mods/tools/resources, and to any others that contribute. Please join our Discord for additional help or for offering suggestions/feedback.
This is not a list of mods to install, nor is it a textbook on how to create and patch a modlist. This is a reference book on where to find all of that. There is a Glossary of terms you will encounter on your modding adventure, as well as a list of Tools you can use. There are links to modlists, of the Do-It-Yourself and of the Wabbajack variety. There is a list of YouTube videos that can be helpful if you are a more visual learner. There is some fun stuff here and there to de-stress when you crash for the fourth time in an hour, and there are suggestions on where to look for help in diagnosing the cause when you are ready to try again.

Some of the things I want to add to the site (and many of these are at least partially done):
  • Expanded tutorials on tools like DynDOLOD, xEdit, ENB, Synthesis, Nemesis, SPID, zMerge, CAO, Creation Kit, etc
  • Updated mods for all categories (so many have been released or updated since it was last updated!); Potentially adding in descriptions/reviews/screenshots for the ones I like/use
  • Wabbajack list reviews
  • Reference Sheets for various tools and more
  • More info on Vortex (my site is mostly centered on MO2 as that's what I use)
  • Expand my AE post into a tutorial (maybe?)
  • Basic (like REALLY basic) tutorials on creating mods in xEdit or CK - or at least have a separate section on some great tutorials (video and text) that are out there (again mostly leaning into the repository thing)
  • So many ideas for posts that I have been working on over time

About Me: (she/her)
I am an obsessive modder that has learned what seems like a significant amount since I started modding in early 2020, but I know that I have barely scratched the surface. I love the modding community and this is my way of giving back.
