Introduction
Scholarship Of Skyrim is a gameplay addition mod focusing on roleplaying that adds mechanics for the more academic type of character. You can pick a topic from one of the ancient cultures (Dwemer, Falmer and Ancient Nords) research them and write a thesis about them.

Leveling Mechanics

You can write better books through research! Research takes many forms, studying in the Arcaneum, collaborating with fellow scholars or exploring in a ruin relevant to what your topic. As you research your Writing Level increases, leading to a better book. However, a novice can't write a truly great book just because they researched a lot. As you produce more finished works, your Scholarship Level also increases. The higher your Writing Level and Scholarship Level, the better the final book. The Threshold values for these both are displayed here but feel free to ignore it if you want to figure it out yourself.

Walkthrough

When you load the game, two powers will be put in your inventory, Book Menu and Work on your book.
Use Book Menu and craft the incomplete thesis.
Use the Work on your book power.

Either choose to write or research.
After you've written for a maximum of 48 hours, you will be given a final book representing your efforts!

Fellow Scholars
Your peers are scattered across Skyrim and beyond! All of them would be happy to help you out with your research. However, most will want you to do something for them first.
  • Calcelmo - Complete "The Lost Expedition" or "The Book of Love"
  • Urag - Complete "Hitting the Books"
  • Neloth - Complete "Reluctant Steward"
  • Paarthurnax - Available as soon as you meet him.
  • Marcurio - Available from game start.
  • Gelebor - Complete "Touching the Sky"
  • Wuunferth the Unliving - Complete "Blood on the Ice" without falsely accusing him
  • Sorine - Complete "Bolstering the Ranks"
  • Tolfdir - Complete "Under Saarthal"
  • Nirya - Complete "The Eye of Magnus"
  • Farengar - Available from game start.
  • Esbern - Complete "Alduins Wall"

To collaborate with them, complete the assigned quest and they'll be happy to help you out.

Location matters!
Where you do your research is important. If you're in the Arcaneum you have a trove of books available to read all about your topic thanks to Urag. But field research is very valuable. You can also gain valuable research in an area relevant to your topic. This specifically means dungeons tagged with the right LocType/LocSet keywords. This is most if not all dungeons in the vanilla game and potentially some modded ones.
To research these areas, just select the Research Areas option from the Research menu when you're in them.

Finishing Bonus'

When you finish a book, depending on your topic and the tier book you write, you will get a small passive or power. These aren't extremely strong but who ever became a warrior by writing?

Compatibility
I don't touch vanilla records so this should be compatible with everything including College of Winterhold overhauls, mods that add new dungeons, etc as long as they use the same keywords vanilla does. If I'm wrong, feel free to let me know in the comments.
I injected the dragon bones/scales into the leveled list for Dragons it shouldn't cause compatibility issues with other dragon mods unless they completely remove/rename the leveled list for Dragons.

Bug Reporting
If you are going to make a bug report, please do it in the bugs tab and provide clear, reproducible steps to get the bug to happen. If you do not do this, I will delete your bug report or mark it not a bug!

Q&A
Will you include topics on the schools of magic?
No. This mod was born because there were plenty of mods to do with spell research but none to do with researching a culture. There are plenty of great alternatives for this you could use but I have no plans to introduce spells to my considered list of topics.

What about this other niche topic?
One more update for Sword Singers is coming as an addon but thats it I'm afraid.

Variant and you
The variant has the following changes to the main file:
  • You can study the 3 topics at the same time
  • Built of 2.0.
  • Changed names of items from stuff like "Novice Level Nordic Thesis" to Nordic Thesis - Novice
  • Animations are a bit smoother
  • Slightly faster back end (the most notable has already been added to the main file, you likely wont notice a significant speed increase)
  • Set the research dialogue to have a cooldown of 6 hours
  • Changed how time passes in implementation. No difference to the user except if you have a needs mod you may notice your needs don't increase as time passes.
I plan on eventually adding more of these improvements to the main file but another massive thanks to CloudQuest for showing me some of the back end improvements. This file will not be supported. Don't bother CloudQuest either.

Recommended mods
Shops sell paper - I don't provide a way of getting more paper in game so this will help a lot, I use it in my own game.
Writing Materials for Spell Research - It was meant for Spell Research but you'll be using those materials for this mod anyways and as its not dependant on that mod you can use it here.

Roadmap
  • More animations throughout
  • Conditional collaboration e.g. Gelebor will only help you after Touching the Sky, Calcelmo will only help you after you kill Nihme, etc
  • Actual effects to finishing a book beyond the satisfaction
  • Expanded topics
  • More colleagues to work with
