About this mod

All ordinary books from Skyrim and the Skyrim DLCs now also give a skill point, exactly like the default skill books do.
Exceptions are the Black books and things like notes and most journals.

This mod should work great with mods that mark unread books with a glowing aura.

Welcome to All Books Are Skillbooks :)

All ordinary books from Skyrim and the Skyrim DLCs now also give a skill point, exactly like the default skill books do.
Exceptions are the Black books and things like notes and most journals.
This mod should work great with mods that mark unread books with a glowing aura.

I started making this mod back in 2020 because i found the experience from reading unread books enjoyable and rewarding if it also increases your skill depending on what the book is about.
Then my PC died and I quit modding for a while and forgot I ever started working on this mod.
I found the half-finished mod earlier this year and decided to complete it.
I've read all of the books and tried to assign a proper skill to it. In some cases it was difficult because the story of some books didn't really match any of the available Skyrim skills, so sometimes I had to pick the least inappropriate skill for the book.
I also wanted to give back a skill to all the skill books from Morrowind and Oblivion that lost their skill learnings in Skyrim, so these former skill books are now proper skill books again :)

I didn't really need to level up quicker reading books or something, but I liked how some books increased your skill, so I made a mod to experience that more often :P
All in all, slightly over 300 records have been changed and offer an additional skillpoint for you.

This mod only changes the books to give a skillpoint, it doesn't make any other changes nor does it use any scripts.
This mod should be 100% savegame compatible and should be safe to install mid-playthrough even though only books that have not been read yet will give a skillpoint.

This mod should be compatible with all other mods. This mod is also compatible that edit book covers or add a glow if the book is unread. In fact, this mod works extremely well with a mod that adds a glow to all unread books :).
The only mods that might have compatibility issues with All Books Are Skillbooks are mods that edit the same book records, like any mods that changes the text or spelling in a book and perhaps also mods that make edits to the weight of the books. This should not cause any crashes or other instabilities but will merely disable the edits done in one of the mods (so either you will have a book that gives a skillpoint OR you will have a book that weighs less).
So this mod should be perfectly safe to use, even during mid-playthrough (but will then only work on unread books).

In short: With this mod almost all books will now give you a skillpoint including the skillbooks from Morrowind and Oblivion that are no longer skillbooks in Skyrim :)

----------

Installation: It is highly advised to use a mod manager program like Vortex and let it manage this mod.
If you really want to do it manually, put this at the very end or near the end of the load order.
Uninstall by deleting or disabling the plugin that came with this mod.

----------

I made this mod for private use because I felt like finding new books didn't really reward me enough and because I enjoy it more this way :)
I like making my own mods and prefer to use a lean mod loadout. I'm currently in a playthrough using less than 30 extra plugins of which around 8 are my own creations. I edit them as I go and sometimes release them if I think someone else may also like it.

In total slightly over 300 books have been read by me (yes I actually read them all RIP my time xD) and given an appropriate skill (or I tried to).

This mod changes nothing except many of the ordinary books. No scripts or anything else has been changed, it's the same books except now you get an extra skillpoint from almost all of them. This mod should be 100% savegame compatible and is very unlikely to cause any stability issues (at worst some of the new skillbooks will simply not give a skill or an edit made by another mod will be changed back to the one that originally came with Skyrim except that it gives an extra skill now. It shouldn't cause any other issues).
You can even enable this mod mid-playthrough, read a couple unread books for the quick skillpoints and then disable this mod again if you wish to do so.
This mod has no dependencies. Only the base game along with the DLC and perhaps the official patch are required.
This mod is made for SE, but should be compatible with AE as well (I'm playing with AE and don't have any issues with it).
The unofficial patch is not required, though I think it would be really strange if the unofficial patch would make a lot of edits to the books. Just to make sure it would probably be better for this mod to override the changes made to the books of Skyrim by the unofficial patch.

----------

I've been modding games for many years now, but all of these mods have been for personal use only. But I got curious to learn how it is to also upload these mods, if only because it gives me a bit of an extra challenge while I learn how to mod skyrim as I go.
Even though I use this mod for my own use as well, the upload of this mod is also to see how the whole uploading thing works and there probably is more to come, for as long as I enjoy modmaking that is :)
