Brief Overview
Spelltome Studies adds a small random/luck based mini-game to spelltomes for a more fun and immersive spell learning experience. With the mod installed, whenever you read a spelltome an animation will play, time will pass, and you'll be prompted with a "study menu" that changes based on the skill level of the player, the higher your skill is in a school of magic, the easier it'll be to learn other spells of the same school. The menu will briefly describe the results of your studying and displays potential incantations that you've developed based on your research, only one of the incantations is correct so you will have to guess correctly in order to learn the spell. The correct incantation is randomly selected/generated so it will be different every time to keep things from becoming predictable, but to keep things balanced there is also a study bonus system that will trigger after a certain amount of wrong attempts that will increase your odds of success to 100%. This study bonus changes with the players skill level as well so you can have different study bonuses for different schools of magic (ie. Novice bonus for Destruction but Expert for Alteration based on skill levels). See the features section for more info.

Features:
  • Spelltome Mini-Game - A random/luck based interaction that makes learning spells feel more rewarding.
  • Learning Takes Time - Reading spell tomes will make time pass by an hour at a time, the higher your skill is the easier it'll be to learn spells of the same skill.
  • Studying Limits - As of now you can't study for more than 9 hours without getting sleep, I find this helps the immersion of time passing as you learn spells over time and gives players another reason to use beds.
  • Mental Fatigue System - While studying you can develop mental fatigue that will apply a small debuff, (-30 Magicka). This can happen after studying for more than 5 hours but is a random chance system so it is not guaranteed to happen every time after exceeding 5 hours. If afflicted with mental fatigue the player will have to sleep at least 1 hour to cure it.
  • Study Bonus System - The odds of successful studying will increase with skill but there's also a Study Bonus system that helps keep things balanced. As a Novice the study bonus will trigger after 3 failed attempts, granting 100% chance of success on the next study attempt
  • Skill Progression - Studying will grant a small amount of experience towards the skill that correlates with the spell the player is attempting to learn. (This applies for failed attempts as well)
  • Random Events - When testing incantations, if the spell fails to cast there is a chance of triggering a random event. These events are based on the spell being learned and currently include:
- Alteration:
- Augmented Jumping
- Paralysis
- Paper Flesh (Armor is reduced by 30 points)
- Telekinetic Blast
- Waterwalking
- Random Transformation (temporarily turn into a random creature)

- Frost:

- Slow Healing (-50% Health Regen, +50% Stamina Regen)
- Brain Fog (Magicka is reduced to 0)
- Sun Burst (Knockback Explosion)
- Stendarr's Guidance (+15% experience gain for Restoration)
  • MCM - Options to:
- Enable/disable Mental Exhaustion
- Enable/disable messages
- Enable/disable notifications
- Enable/disable animations
- Reset Study Limit
- Increase/decrease the amount of experience gained from studying
- Increase/decrease the amount of time passed from studying
Compatibility:
The mod is compatible with pretty much every mod except ones that do similar things such as immersive spell learning, better spell learning, etc.
The mod is compatible with spell research and should automatically work with spell overhaul mods that add many new spelltomes to the game.

Future Plans:
  • Nothing as of now but I'm open to community suggestions if there's a feature you'd like to see added :)
