About this mod

Makes eating sleeping and drinking beneficial to gameplay without being intrusive to gameplay.

Permissions and credits
I've always loved the idea of needs mods for making there be a point to eating drinking and sleeping in the game. I've tried out every needs mod on the nexus and, while they're all great, I've come to realize I don't like how they handle the situation. They all get to the point where they just feel intrusive and a monotonous part of gameplay. I then started using Apothecary's food tweaks and Very Well Rested and liked how they handled it to benefit you to eat and sleep without forcing it but it still wasn't quite what I was looking for so I decided to make my own version inspired by those two.

The point of this mod is to reward the player for eating a varied diet, drinking, and sleeping in a way that encourages keeping up with your needs for every playstyle without having intrusive negative side effects to not constantly taking care of them. I've tried to make sure all of the effects aren't overpowered but are also useful throughout the game. So let's get into what the buffs are.

FOOD

I took the food in the game and split it into 4 effects based on the major nutrient you get from each type of food then based the effect from each nutrient based on how they affect your body in real life. The nutrients are protein (builds muscle), calcium (strengthens bones), vitamins (multiple benefits to body and mind), Carbohydrates (converted to glucose for energy). Protein and calcium are a little more warrior oriented but most of the benefits are useful to all characters.

Protein (from meat):  health increased by 15, +25 carry weight, +5 weapon damage (not 5% melee weapons will have their damage increased by 5), +5 unarmed damage.

Calcium (cheese and milk): health increased by 15, block 20% more damage, armor rating increased by 25.

Vitamins (fruits and vegetable): stamina and magicka increased by 15, +25% disease resistance, +25% health regen.

Carbohydrates (bread and desserts): stamina and magicka increased by 15, +25% stamina regen, +25% magicka regen.

All food effects last 15 minutes or 30 minutes depending on the version you choose. Some foods have two nutrients if major ingredients are different categories. For example apple pie gives you vitamins and carbohydrates. I made cooked foods more expensive. Raw foods are still cheap. Raw meat gives a small amount of health damage since they had to have an effect and I didn't want it to be beneficial to eat raw meat.

The intention of this is to encourage the player to eat a balanced meals. So you eat a salmon steak, garlic bread, a baked potato, and a cheese wedge. This means that, assuming you are also staying hydrated, you have a total of 30 extra health/magicka/stamina, 25 armor, 25 extra carry weight, block 20% more, 5 more weapon and unarmed damage,  25% disease resist, and 50% faster health/magicka/stamina regen for 15/30 minutes real time.

This approach is more to encourage you to eat balanced meals throughout the day to maintain a healthy diet.

DRINKS

Staying hydrated is extremely important to pretty much every function of your body. I went with attribute regeneration with hydration:

Hydrated: +25% health regen, +25% magicka regen, +25% stamina regen.

Drink effects last 10 minutes or 20 minutes depending on version. Since the only drinks in the game are alcohol and milk I made alcoholic drinks just give the hydrated effect. The more expensive drinks have a secondary effect though. I also balanced alcohol prices. Milk gives the calcium effect as well as hydrated.

SLEEP

proper rest is important for all of your body's functions as well. For being rested benefits I went with peak mental and physical performance. The rested bonus:

Power attacks cost 20% less stamina, spell magnitude is increased by 20%, and melee weapons swing 20% faster.

Rested, well rested, and lover's comfort all have the same effect the difference is how long it lasts. They still go off in game time so the amount of real time that passes depends on your timescale. Rested lasts 8 hours, well rested lasts 12 hours, and lover's comfort lasts 16 hours.

Werewolves can gain the rested bonus so there won't be a negative to becoming a werewolf. This should be compatible with all werewolf mods as the only thing I touched is the playersleepquest. Any mod that edits that will conflict and need a patch though.

NPC BALANCING

If you feel that these buffs make the player too strong, especially in the early game, I have also included a perk which, if you have the Spell Perk Item Distributor, will be given to all humanoid NPCs and undead NPCs. I included undead so vampires/draugr etc. swing weapons as fast as mortal npcs. The point of the perk is to emulate NPCs taking care of their own needs.

NPC Wellness Perk: Health/Stamina/Magicka increased by 50, Armor rating increased by 50, Weapon speed increased 20%, block 20% more damage, stamina/health/magicka regenerate 50% faster, spell magnitude increased 20%.

I made the health/magicka/stamina and armor rating bonuses better than the player's because NPCs don't get perks like the player so this was a simple way to increase the difficulty of all undead and humanoid enemies so the player doesn't get overpowered with this mod. Also this perk means that if the player doesn't keep up with their needs NPCs have an advantage over the player. It helps with the illusion that if the player doesn't stay healthy they get weaker and sluggish (swing weapons slower and use more stamina.)

If you don't want NPCs to get the perk just delete the beneficialeatdrinksleep_DISTR ini file.

WANT DRINKS OTHER THAN MILK AND ALCOHOL?

Patches are provided for Water from Wells and Varietea.
The water from wells patch just makes the water give you the hydrated status. The varietea patch does the same with the teas but also leaves the health/stamina increasing effects that some of the teas have.

COMPATIBILITY

Will not be compatible with any mod that edits the vanilla food items, drink items, or the rested/well rested/lovers comfort effects.

Will need a patch with any mod that edits the playersleepquest.

I don't plan to make any patches for any survival/needs mods as I intend this to be a replacement for those. However I give full permission to anyone that wants to patch this to work with any survival/needs mods (or any other mod for that matter.)

REQUIREMENTS

Weapon speed mult fix or equivalent is required for weapon speed to work properly otherwise speed will be slowed. This is done to prevent the weapon speed bug when you have multiple weapon speed effects active like my rested weapon speed with elemental fury/dual flurry.
