Do not install the game or tools into special window folders like Program Files x86 or Documents folders, so that UAC, antivir or other crapware does not interfere. Follow a modding guide that explains basic game setup. Set the output of xLODGen to a dedicated folder outside of the game data folder as explained in the description.

Use DynDOLOD, the easier and advanced version of xLODGen for tree and object LOD generation.

The obvious problems to fix first are that the game is installed to Program Files x86 and to set a dedicated output folder with -o.

Use DynDOLOD, the easier and advanced version of xLODGen for tree and object LOD generation.

Installing the game outside of Program Files x86 is basic computer / Steam knowledge that can be googled or follow a modding guide that explains basic game setup.

Downloading DynDOLOD and extracting the archive is the same as downloading and extracting xLODGen and is rudimentary computer usage. Downloading and installing DynDOLOD Resources SE is the same as any other mod. If doing those things is a pain in the ass, then maybe don't mod the game.

It is unlikely that SSELODGeb all of sudden developed an unknown problem after all these years. From experience it seems likely that the OS, UAC or antivir etc. is preventing read/write file access.

The log snippet shows some known causes for this type of issue: the game installed to Program Files x86, executable in Documents folder and not setting a dedicated output folder outside of game folders. Any decent modding guide addresses this.

I think i'm confused on something, it was my understanding to use DynDolod for tree generation and SSelodgen for textures. So i unchecked Tree Lod in sselodgen and let it run, but there were many errors. Not sure if i botched my skyrim se directory or not, as i'm confused as to where the generated files went to?

Is this not the order things should be done (Dyndolod for trees and sselodgen for terrain textures)?

The order of things is well explained at https://forum.step-project.com/topic/14250-skyrim-tvdt-occlusion-culling-data/

Usually error messages have more than just the word Error, so read all of the message to learn what the problem is and to fix the cause.

The log typically shows where files are created to, which hopefully is the dedicated output folder that was defined with the -o command line argument.

So I searched for the plugin limit fix and if I read the correct post, it's suggested to use DynDOLOD instead of SSELODGen. The thing is, in my opinion DynDOLOD is a huge downgrade because when I generate LODs with DynDOLOD I have huge fps drops (Riverwood trees area/ Whitherun trees area 60fps without LODs, 40fps after LOD generation). However this problem does not occour generating LODs with SSELODGen, why is that, the old tool better than the new one, that's ironic

DynDOLOD FAQ Performance: DynDOLOD is a set of tools that generate a LOD mod based on the load order and options/settings made by the user. The visual results and the performance impact are what the user chooses it to be. The resource requirements can be less, same or more than the vanilla game while the visual result is always vastly superior. There are 3 presets: Low - almost none. Medium - like SkyFalls + SDO but 1000x better visuals. High - certainly yes. RTFM to adjust every detail yourself.

As has been posted before, recent versions of xEdit / xLODGen Terrain LOD beta support ESL plugins.

Have you run it as admin? I was having the exact same problem, i just ran it in admin and completely fixed the problem! Tip: IF your computer is divided by users like mine (if you share your computer with family/partner), and your main user doesn't have admin privileges, just take your Skyrim.ini file (in <YourUserName>/Documents/MyGames/SkyrimSpecialEdition) and copy paste it in the user that has admin privileges (<ComputerAdmin>/Documents/MyGames/SkyrimSpecialEdition) then run SSELODGen, it will work like a charm. Amazing tool.

Maybe, the program is good, But Im struggling so much with creating LODs! Im not new to modding, though, lack of proper instructions and requirements for THIS to work made installation a pain in ass! After an hour I realized, that I need 'billboards' to get this working!
Noobs like me require step by step tutorial!

      From the description:

"You MUST install at least billboards for vanilla Skyrim trees, otherwise generation of trees LOD won't work properly."

You should be using DynDOLOD, the advanced version of xLODGen for easier and drastically improved tree and object LOD generation. It includes a manual with instructions and videos. It is part of every modding guide. I suggest to follow one to learn basic modding along the way.

I can not get sselodgen to fit my computer screen properly, well my TV screen. The font is so tiny and then when sselodgen asks to input the recommended settings, it's half gone and I can't see the options fully. Can someone help me?

Edit: I figured it out, but I had to consult the TES5LODGen page at Skyrim LE Nexus.

Trees LOD;"> - covers trees only (files in Meshes\Terrain\<Worldspace>\Trees\<Worldspace>.*.*.*.BTT and <Worldspace>.LST, and a single atlas texture file Textures\Terrain\<Worldspace>\Trees\<Worldspace>TreeLod.dds)

Deleting all the files placed in these folders by lodgen fixed the issue for me.

So I accidentally clicked "Generate" after opening lodgen. I let it run, and it finished with an error. But when I loaded up Skyrim some of my tree LODs were messed. How can I see what the heck lodgen did, what files it put where and how can I undo it?? The logs don't tell me anything I can understand.

edit: this was at the end of the log:

    [Tamriel] Trees LOD Done.
[Tamriel] No options file found: C:\Games\Mods\Skyrim\_Tools\SSELODGen 3.2.1-6642-3-2-1\Edit Scripts\SSELODGen_Skyrim_Tamriel_Options.txt

[Tamriel] Objects LOD generation error: System Error. Code: 2.
The system cannot find the file specified
LOD Generator: finished (you can close this application now)

Deleting TamrielObjectsLOD.dds makes the LODs even more messed up.

OMG I LOVE YOU! I was going through so much headache trying to fix my game because of SSELODGen. I was fine before, after using it the game would CTD everytime I went outside. I couldn't figure out that it did wrong and I don't really know what I'm doing so I just installed DynDOLOD (and actually thoroughly read and followed instructions this time) and ran that, generated a mod and enabled it. The game would run but things had disappeared like windmill blades (Yes, I also had the required resource files and DLL, nothing fixed it). If I disabled the mod the game would CTD like before. After deleting all the files SSELODGen made in the locations you specified (I figured it out by referencing the date modified with the time I ran lodgen) my game works again!
