July 2018 Anniversary Update: Hello to my SMIM friends! It has been almost a year of being married to my wonderful wife and almost a year of no SMIM updates. So I've finally put in some time to update SMIM again to version 2.08. A few good things here. Raven Rock now has fancy 3D ropes! And the Imperial Jail meshes now have proper collision, so you can shoot prisoners through the bars if you're so inclined!

It's been nearly a year since the last update...so I hope I didn't break this release. Please let me know if anything doesn't work.

Donations: Thank you per usual to those who continue to donate a few dollars here and there. This is part of the reason I forced myself back here to update SMIM. It's SO much work, but I love SMIM and you!

I can't take time to read many comments...but please do message me if some critical bug or issue arises. I can't promise SMIM will see another update...but we'll see how life goes. Best wishes to you all!

I cannot for the life of me install this, no matter what I try I get consistent "a problem has occurred during install" when it reaches 100%

The docs for this mod are pretty lacking, considering how many separate and seemingly conflicting files there are. I know there is a scripted install, but for those of us who don't (or in my case, can't) use a program that knows how to run that installer, it becomes a complicated mess to figure out which files to enable and which to not. Can someone clarify what should and should not be enabled, specifically whether to have any other files enabled when the merged file is enabled? And can that response be pinned, so others using Wrye Bash or installing manually can figure out how to enable the mod correctly?

I use Wrye Bash, and what I ended up doing was using the "SMIM SE 2-07 BSA" file listed under the old files. You don't get the customization options that way, but it installs cleanly and I didn't have any of the issues I encountered trying to use the SMIM 2-08 file (no missing dock at Solitude, for example).

This is annoying to say the least. I use Wrye Bash, and what I've done, what seems to work, is to go through and pick one of each number in the sub packages, up to the "merged" package, which I include. Then, according to LOOT, SMIM-SE-merged.esp is incompatible with the SMIM-SE-DragonbornTernFix.esp and SMIM-SE-FarmhouseFlickeringFix.esp, so before I install SMIM I uncheck those in the esp/m filter panel. Then I install SMIM-SE, and it seems to work. Obviously this leaves a lot to be desired, but the non-SE versions of those esps also end up being installed, and apparently fulfill whatever purpose those incompatible esps did.

If anyone has any more information about why those two are incompatible, or what the non-SE esps do, the ones that end up being installed (even when I only select the merged sub package), well I'd be very appreciative.

so i noticed that in the description, go to bethesda.net for the complete bsa archive version.. i checked it and it says it is v2.3 compared to v2.8 on nexus... so i assume the nexus version is the one you would want..

so can someone redo a complete new guide on how to install this mod on what to install, especially for those who install things manually and dont use install managers...

I can´t install this mod with NMM. Everytime I try, the installation stops at about 40% with the message "a problem occured during install".
Any ideas how to fix that?

I've read that bethesda has said VR won't support mods. Or atleast Bethesda won't do anything to make it easy.

Is the blowing in the wind smim patch still functional?

    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5124

also any idea if I am using blowing in the wind in conjunction with unique handmade signs, should I use the smim sign meshes or vanilla sign meshes option in the BITW install?

Does anyone know if there are replacements for that ugly, flat "grids" in Whiterun? I would have thought that this is covered by SMIM, but obviously, it's not.

Would like to try this mod but there a lot of complaints about missing textures and such...Is it really that buggy or is just ppls other mods causing issues? Thankyou:)

This mod is fine and I highly recommend it. It’s not buggy at all. People use other mods and then start overwriting textures and images and then they have issues.

Then, good sir. You don't know anything about file overwriting like me. Alright Sir Maxxgold. Explain me then: When I uninstalled SMIM it caused my Smelter to go Purple all over the place, which is caused only by a missing MESH and as I know, the only MESH-replacer I used was SMIM. Texture overhauls like for example "Noble Skyrim" or "Skyrim 2017 textures" I use don't even touch the meshes.

You mean purple like in this picture? https://imgur.com/s1UF6Zv
Because that isn't caused by a missing mesh. You can't have a missing mesh when the object is present in Vanilla Skyrim, because it will revert to the mesh found in the Skyrim bsa's... So unless you messed with those bsa's, uninstalling mesh replacers should be relatively harmless.( Unless you have a mod that manually replaces all those objects with a new mesh with a different name, but then you should check your esp.'s)
Purple textures are caused by an object mesh being replaced by another mesh that points to its own textures, but those textures aren't present. So it's likely you uninstalled SMIM incorrectly and still have the smelter mesh being replaced by SMIM's, but you did delete the textures. Or you have another mod replacing the smelter meshes.
Another possibility is, do you have ENBoost installed? If you don't, this can also cause purple textures because your game is running out of VRAM.
      Hope this helps.

There's a problem, when uninstalling SMIM. Uninstallting SMIM causes the smelter Mesh to be deleted. It's just gone. Trying to replace it with any other Smelter replacer doesn't fix it, because it's only a texture replacer, but SMIM replaces the Mesh-textures. It can't be my Mod load order or bad management, cuz I only use SMIM as Mesh replacer everything else like for example "Noble Skyrim" or "Skyrim 2017 textures" do only touch the textures of the Smelter. Please, prove me wrong or tell us how to fix it, because 2 Friend's of mine happened the same so it can't be just me.
