About this mod

This mod adds dialogue options to many NPCs through which perks can be learned in exchange for gold, if the player's skill level is high enough. This is meant to make progression feel more realistic, as rather than suddenly realizing you can make enchantments 20% stronger, for example, you learn a technique from an experienced enchanter.

This mod adds dialogue options to many NPCs through which perks can be learned in exchange for gold, if the player's skill level is high enough. This is meant to make progression feel more realistic, as rather than suddenly realizing you can make enchantments 20% stronger, for example, you learn a technique from an experienced enchanter. As a side effect, it provides another use for gold, which is especially important late in the game when the player typically has more gold than they could ever spend.

Skills can be learned from many NPCs, from the more obvious ones like guild members, court wizards, and blacksmiths and alchemists, to anyone who has some ability in any of the skill trees. For example, Lydia can teach you heavy armor, one-handed, and block perks. The highest level trainers are typically in the guilds, although there should be at least one trainer not in any guild that can teach every perk for every skill tree. I wanted to include a list of trainers, but Nexus flagged the zip file as suspicious.

The cost for perks is 5 times the skill level required. The basic skills (Armsman for example) have been adjusted so that every skill requires at least 20 skill in the tree.

Some known issues/things that may be changed in the future:
  • Sybille Stentor's face is black, I don't know how to fix this at the moment, but it seems to be a common problem after some googling. I think she is the only one with this problem.
  • Perk points are still received upon leveling up, I couldn't find a way to prevent this. The mod Skyrim Skill Uncapper can be used to set the number of perk points received to 0, I believe.
  • The dialogue options are very generic and even lazy towards the end. At first I thought I might use one of the tools available to make voiced lines and didn't want to have to make too many. I don't think I will anymore due to the number that would be required. Towards the end I just wanted to finish this mod so I could take a break from it, so I didn't think very much about the dialogue. This I may change in the future.
  • Conditions may be added at some point, so that guild members only offer training if you are a member of the guild and orcs only if you are Blood-Kin, for example.
  • Additionally, some more conditions or ways to get perks for specific skills may be added at some point. For example, College Mages probably shouldn't teach Necromancy, and presumably no blacksmith in Skyrim knows how to make Dragonbone weapons and armor. For now these were left in so that every perk is available.
  • Skill requirements may be adjusted at some point. It may turn out this mod makes it too easy to become overpowered quickly, since there is no limit to the number of perks that can be acquired.
