Sir djarb, let me just take this opportunity to say that I recently discovered this mod from it being recommended to use by another mod (dino spell discovery mod) and I have to say Sir, this mod is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, MY SKYRIM is INCOMPLETE with this MOD, it is A-MUST-HAVE mod (I have of course, endorsed) allow me to explain WHY...
1) My skyrim mod setup has MORE THAN 6000 different spells (with their spell-tomes) from a collection of SO MANY different mods (some are new lands, some are spell-packs, some are individual spell-tomes added to the world, some are from OLD-RIM and converted into form 44). SO I was looking for a mod that will allow me to LEARN these spells through some sort of research-like thing. I've tried many mods (spell research, dino spell discovery, spell-tome studies , SPELL-FORGE etc) you name them, I've most likely tried them all BUT THIS MOD TAKES THE CAKE. WHY you ask? ...because this does NOT NEED ANY PATCHES ...it simply READS my entire LOAD ORDER and looks for anything that has a SPELL-TOME in ANY PLUGIN ...and adds it to the spells that can be researched. And to make it EVEN BETTER ...it's not just spells...BUT SCROLLS too (though scrolls must be in a specific format of 'scroll of (name of spell)'. NO MORE taking spaces in my load order for PATCHES of different spell-pack mods.
2) As you can imagine...if I have MORE THAN 6000 different "playable" spells inside the game ....that's the kind of number where I can go through my ENTIRE PLAYTHROUGH without EVER discovering some of them or even knowing they exist. So this MOD made it EXCITING FOR ME by allowing me to DISCOVER and use some of the spells I DIDNT EVEN KNOW I HAD or were inside the game. Do you know what this means? ....it means to me that EACH PLAYTHROUGH I will NEVER DISCOVER the spells in the order I did in the PREVIOUS playthrough ..... think about how many PERMUTATIONS of spell discovery and learning 6000+ spells can have in any given playthrough....the answer is simply "TOO MUCH TO COUNT". That IN-TURN translates to ....EACH PLAYTHROUGH has a TOTALLY DIFFERENT spell journey of discovery for my Mage character. And then I combine that with animation mods that allow different resting animations ....I enter into a meditation animation and wait ...while the Arcane studies CONSUMES Paper, Inkwell and Quil to discover ANY SPELL (within the school of magic of an already KNOWN SPELL) .... now I may start with a mere FLAMES spell in my hand (but I have TURNED OFF completely the ability to LEARN from spell-tomes by using 'spell-learning restriction' mod and set the value to learn a spell to 200+, effectively cutting off the ability to learn ANY spell-tome) ...so the JOURNEY to becoming a POWERFUL MAGE with 'god-like' powers becomes DIFFERENT EACH TIME, EACH PLAYTHROUGH. That RANDOMNESS is simply EXHILARATING. Each playthrough is different, one will NEVER discover the spells in a predictable way ever again (not to mention in the order of HOW they are discovered). In a permutation probability of 6000 plus spells, one finds oneself excited to see what they will discover. It is like CASINO SLOT machine except there are 6000+ things rolling around and one simply looks forward to what they will discover.
3) It's simple ...spell research mod is complicated ....dino spell discovery was good but did not cover for all the 6000+ spells I had , the same apply for the others, they did not cover for all the 6000+ spells I have...This one takes the CAKE because of it's SIMPLICITY yet highly effective. IF I wanted to go in blind on a spell-discovery journey I could do that ....if I wanted to NARROW DOWN and specify the type of spell I wanted to discover ...I could always go to a mage shop and buy spell-scrolls and start my Arcane studies from the scrolls , usually I would discover spells that are closer related to the spell currently studied.
My only suggestion for better IMMERSION in this mod is that ...instead of using "WAIT" as a means conduct "Arcane Studies" to learn new spells, you could give player a Power perhaps called "Study Time" accompanied by it's effects (or animation) and time passes (according to the minimum time set..default 10 hours) then the result of the study and perhaps the materials consumed (if any). That would be amazing.
I just found this mod and after playing with it for a little while my only question is, how is this mod so criminally underrated? It goes so incredibly well with Immersive Spell Learning - DESTified for an immersive mage gameplay.
I noticed in the writing material recipes, you listed using firewood to create charcoal, but the description only mentions using ink, quills and parchment. Is charcoal actually used for anything?
Would it be possible to add sitting as downtime? I tend to play with "Your Market Stall" mod and just spend an embarrassing amount of time just selling things. Seems like a pretty good time to study as well.
That doesn't feel... right to me. Can't really study if you're being interrupted all the time, can't serve the customers if you're concentrating on something else.
Hmm. Well, the error is telling us that the JContainers container that should have your learnable spells in it is null, and the messages in your screenshot say it had just been created and filled. Something seems to have gone wrong with the data storage. In my experience JContainers is very reliable, though. My best guesses as of now are that another SKSE plugin threw something off, or that you actually ran out of available memory when it tried to allocate the container.
Will this mod have any synergy with Grimoire? I like the idea of having to actually practice casting spells in order to learn them, in addition to simply studying them. Using Grimoire - Real Equip Tome has been pretty fun, and adds a little more depth to spell learning.
Edit: I was incorrect in my original reply to this question.
The two work fine together, but they don't interact. If you have both installed, you can learn a spell by studying via this mod, or you can learn a spell by reading a book and then putting in the time to master it via Grimoire. Both work, neither interferes with the other.
Hey djarb !!, Awesome mod youve created here and im enjoying it so far even i tho i kill mages wherever they lurk haha, its made spell learning super fun and intuitive but there literally only one problem. I didnt want to put it in the bug section because i didnt want to ruin the '0 bugs' reviews u have haha and also incase im doing something wrong on my end. anyway i digress, the mod, forgotten magic doesnt seem to work, in the sense that when i study it, the percentage doesnt increase from 0% at all. any help would be greatly appreciated! :) thanks again brother :D
Thanks for the kind words. Always nice to see somebody liking my work :)
I've had Forgotten Magic Redone in my load order for years, and not had any trouble with using it in conjunction with Arcane Studies. I'm pretty sure there's no special incompatibility there.
A few simple things that could be throwing you off:
If you've run out of any of the writing materials, you won't make any progress
If the most similar spells to the one you're studying are way above your skill, it will take a really long time to learn them
If you added Forgotten Magic to your load order after starting the game and initializing Arcane Studies, you need to use the MCM to reinitialize Arcane Studies before studying the Forgotten Magic spell will work
What notifications show on the screen when you spend time waiting? If you stand in the middle of the Arcaneum in the College of Winterhold and spend a couple of days studying, do you see anything happen? Between all of the books and tutors available there, studying is very productive. What are you looking at when you say the percentage doesn't increase from 0%? Arcane Studies records time spent studying, not a percentage, so this is confusing.
Hello again brother! About the percentage thingy, I don't mean I'm trying to create a new spell, and all this is on a new game(I never add or remove mods during a playthrough, even if it's an skse dll, not even changing in files) I meant reading a spell tome from forgotten magic redone, other spell books work fine when I study and then wait let's say 5-12 hours. But you mentioned something about skill level in magic, that's probably it. Also I'm gonna read through the description again, and reexamine myself to know if I'm doing it right! Can't just let you type all that for nothing! It's meant to be read to understand the mod :D I'll get back to you brother 🫂 Im actually starting a new game right now(got some more crash fixes for my 500gb modlist) Hope to talk to you again soon! Keep up the great work!! Love you!

Totally recommended and absolutely endorsed!
