Tired of having to steal, kill, and generally break your moral compass just to make your way through this game? These mods might help. Not all of them will float your boat, but hopefully you'll find a few you like.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to check the Prerequisites list on the Description page in each mod to get necessary patches and add-ons. And read the stickies and posts! Many of these conflict with each other since they try to make the same changes in different ways. And a few of them WILL be problematic if you don't install/configure them correctly!

QUEST MODS:
- Boethiah for Good Guys: Complete Boethiah's Calling quest without betraying a friend. Another option is to use The Choice is Yours to reject Boethiah completely (which will lead to alternate routes to complete the quest). Or if you wish to skip “Boethiah’s Calling” quest entirely, check out Lootable Ebony Mail which allows you to fight Boethiah’s champion anyway.
- Namira for Good Guys: Complete Namira's quest without sacrificing a priest to cannibals.
- The Whispering Door - Quest Expansion: New route to finish the quest by siding with Jarl Balgruuf and safely disposing of the sword.
- Thieves Guild for Good Guys: Join the Thieves Guild without sending people to jail or bullying people for money. Allows you to give money to the poor like a "Robin Hood" figure. (NOTE: Another option is to use Thieves Guild Requirements SE with its “Thieves Guild Alternate Routes” add-on; they provide a few good options for the quests.)
- Destroy the Thieves Guild - Special Edition: Instead of being a "Robin Hood" figure you can just kill the Thieves Guild members and have alternative ways to gain the exclusive loot.
- *Note that there are several mods that allow you to handle the "Unusual Gems" you find without joining the Thieves Guild. For example: Sell Unusual Gems - Stones of Barenziah and In the Shadow of the Crown - No Stone Unturned Alternative.
- House of Horrors Quest Expansion: Finish the vanilla quest without having to kill 2 people.
- Mr. Ebony... Get Lost: Skip the Ebony Warrior quest so that you’re not forced to kill the Ebony Warrior.
- The Only Cure - Quest Expansion: Complete the quest without cavorting with Daedra.
- Search and Seizure - Quest Expansion: Provides a couple "good guy" options to the quest.
- Search and Seizure for Good Guys: Provides the option to warn Ogmund of the Thalmor's suspicions.
- Deceive Degaine: Provides different avenues to complete the quest "Steal the Statue of Dibella."
- Save the Icerunner - Lights Out Alternate Routes: No longer get tricked into causing a bunch of innocent people to die in a shipwreck.
- *Innocence Lost - Quest Expansion, Innocence Lost Alternative, or Adoption without Murder (Innocence Lost for Good Guys): Rescue oppressed orphans without having to kill the head of the orphanage.
- Restoring the Aretino Residence SE: After Innocence Lost is complete, you can upgrade the Aretino residence, invite Aventus to return home, and give Sofie a warm place to sleep.
- Defy the Gardener: Gives the player another way to learn the final Word of Power for the Bend Will shout, without sacrificing Storn.
- About Roggvir...: No longer is Roggvir guaranteed execution; Roggvir's fate is in your hands.
- A Lovely Letter Alternate Routes: Options for completing “A Lovely Letter” quest without tricking Camilla.
- Paarthurnax Quest Expansion (or Paarthurnax Dilemma): Complete the quest without having to outright kill Paarthurnax.
- Blood on the Ice Redux SE: Catch the butcher in Windhelm before he strikes again.
- Finding Susanna Alive: Arrive in Windhelm in time to find Susanna alive.
- *Nepos the Nope: Delays the timing of the quest the"Forsworn Conspiracy" by blocking the murder scene in Markarth.
- Improved Companions - Questline Tweaks: Back out of becoming a werewolf without leaving Skjor and Aela stuck in the Underforge forever.
- The Companions - Don't be a Milk Drinker: Restores honor to The Companions by removing the option to be a bully.
- The Conflict Under the Crescent - A Companions and Silver Hand Mod: Join the Silver Hand and hunt werewolves. Take the fight to the Companions or work to cure them.
- Dark Brotherhood Reformation - Fully Voiced: Provides the player options to spare most of the NPCs you have to assassinate. Each choice will result in an alternative quest to help them instead of killing them.
- Dark Brotherhood for Good Guys: If you play the vanilla Dark Brotherhood questline, this mod provides better motivations for why you should carry out the Dark Brotherhood’s wishes. Alternatively you can forego this mod and simply destroy the Dark Brotherhood by killing Astrid when given no better choices. That will begin the “Destroy the Dark Brotherhood” quest.
- Penitus Oculatus: If you finish the vanilla "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood" quest, you can join the Penitus Oculatus to fight the Thalmor and eliminate the rest of the Dark Brotherhood.
- At Your Own Pace: Has Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood options that include better choices for a good guy role play.
- Agent of Righteous Might - SSE: Destroy the Mythic Dawn Cult from the inside.
- Lawbringer: Claim bandit strongholds for the faction of your choice to keep the bandits from coming back.
- Skyrim Realistic Conquering: Clear locations of their foul inhabitants and turn the locations into realistic and liveable settlements.
- VIGILANT SE: Become a Vigilant of Stendarr and fight evil.
- Sidequests of Skyrim: Allows you to run errands for NPCs which can improve your relationship with them.
GAMEPLAY MODS:
- Epic Restoration SSE: Gives you the ability to renounce Daedric quests in your quest log, and adds divine spells that require good behavior. You can also create soul gems. If you think this mod does too much, you might consider Renounce the Daedra (Epic Restoration Lite) instead.
- Charitable Soul: Make donations to the orphanage, give clothes to the poor, use Sigil Stones instead of Soul gems to enchant your gear, and give farmers the things you recolted.
- Here to Help - Tend to the Sick and Wounded: Help the injured and sick NPCs in the Temple of Kynareth and military camps around Skyrim.
- Markarth - Help the Warrens and A Cure for Cairine SE: Clean up the Warrens and cure poor Cairine.
- A Place To Rest Their Heads SSE: Gives the four orphans added by Hearthfires better sleeping arrangements.
- Dragons Keep SSE or Stonehall Orphanage: Too many adoptable children? Send them to safe places where there are more caretakers and beds.
- Bring Meeko To Lod: Adds a dialogue option to Lod (the Blacksmith in Falkreath) to give Meeko the dog to him instead of leaving Meeko alone at an empty shack.
- Keep Your Money to Yourself: Allows you to refuse the money you usually get from various NPCs, including rewards from quests.
- Give Me More Gold: Give more gold to beggars.
- *Alms for the Poor: Donate more money to beggars.
- Give Beggars Food SE: Allows the player to give food to beggars instead of just gold coins.
- Food for the Thirsty: Allows the player to give food or drinks to beggars.
- Freed Prisoner Uses Items: Allows prisoners you free to actually use the items you give them.
- Skyrim Modesty Mod: Edits 30 meshes to show less cleavage, thigh, and midriff.
- Skyrim Reputation: Introduces a reputation mechanic to make you treated as the hero (or villain) you really are.
- Relationship Change Notifications: Receive notifications whenever your relationship rank with an NPC changes.
- Simply Knock SE: Allows you to knock on locked doors to gain access instead of needing to pick the lock.
- Store Entrance Doorbells: Adds store entrance doorbells with animation and sound effects. If the bell is rung while trespassing, the owner gets alerted and calls the guards.
- Suspicious City Guards: City guards will become suspicious if they see you sneaking around or walking around with your weapon drawn.
- BlockSteal -Prevents accidentally pick up, or BlockSteal Papyrus: These mods prevent you from accidentally stealing something. To steal something, you need to be in sneak mode.
- *Sure of Stealing: Requires you to click twice on an item to steal it when not sneaking.
- DON'T GIVE ME ALL THIS STUFF - Less Charitable NPCs SE: Restricts the amount of stuff friendly NPCs let the player take from their homes and stores for free.
- After the Civil War - Siege Damage Repairs: An immersive way of repairing the damage left by the Civil War.
- Run for Your Lives: Keep civilians from dying by having them run to safe areas when dragons or vampires attack.
- Protect your People - PyP - BetterNPC Protection SE: This is an alternative to Run for Your Lives. It protects around 800 NPCs and
is built with compatibility in mind. - Celtic Enchanting Table SSE: Replaces the pentagram on enchanting tables with a Celtic knot.
- Knockout and Surrender - Non-Lethal Pacifist yielding options: Choose to knock out your enemies rather than killing them.
- Headhunter -Bounties Redone: Lets you capture bandits and turn them in instead of killing them.
- Compliments and Insults: Ability to compliment (or insult) most NPCs. This has a chance to affect their disposition towards you.
- Angelic Halos and Demonic Horns: Allows your character to wear an angelic halo.
OTHER THOUGHTS:
- If you think a good guy should fight against the Thalmor, then check out The Second Great War and the four "Fight Against the Thalmor" mods (search for "Fight Against the Thalmor" to find them). Note that the Thalmor series is in German, but they all have English patches.
- If you choose to join the Stormcloaks, you might want to check out Stormcloaks For Good Guys-LESS RACIST. If you want to stay neutral in the fight, check out Civil War Neutrality.
- If you play as a paladin (traditionally a good warrior priest with healing powers), search for "paladin" here on the Nexus and you'll find a lot of mods for that.
- Concerning the soul trapping system in Skyrim: If you feel uncomfortable trapping souls in your gameplay, there are a lot of mods that modify soul trap and soul gems in various ways. For example:
- Charge or Fill - Spells – SE: Adds 5 spells that allow you to charge your equipped weapon or fill your soul gems.
- Epic Restoration SSE: Lets you charge gems through alternate means.
- Wintermyst: Soul Charge enchantment, fills soul gems with radiant magicka from the world.
- Infinite Enchantment Charges: Adds a lesser power to the game, that makes your current weapon charges (almost) infinite.
- *Magicka Siphon - A Soulgem Roleplay Mod: "Soul Trap" is now called "Magicka Siphon," so instead of sucking souls out of creatures you siphon magicka instead.
