About this mod

This mod adds to the game "Rings" which don't occupy a body slot, but which will increase your movement speed greatly, severely, ridculously, or ludicrously. Or all of the above.

WARNING: v1.0 IS CORRUPT: SEE BELOW

Back when I was still playing Oblivion, I used a mod by Rob342 called "Super Speed Rings."  As the name suggests, the mod consists of rings that enable your character to run ridiculously fast. It was a blast, to say the least.  Twelve years later, while working on my "Summon Ghost Dogs" mod, I stumbled onto some objects in the CK that reminded me of "Super Speed Rings," and inspired me to make my own version.  This mod is the result.

The "Rings" are rings in name only, since they don't occupy a body slot and will not show up on your character.  The effects will function when equipped however, and you can equip them even if you are already wearing other rings.  You can equip them all at once or in any combination, and the effects will stack, with potentially disastrous results.  Boost your speed too high, and even a slight incline will launch you high above the ground.  Unless you have some protection against falling damage, expect your character to suffer injury, or even an untimely and somewhat comical demise.

The amount the rings will boost your character's speed may vary depending on Alteration skill.  The descriptions in inventory are arguably hyperbole, but will give you a fair idea as to their ranking.

If you equip the rings and then fast travel, you will find that you can traverse the length and breadth of Skyrim in minutes instead of hours or days, as fast travel time is affected by your movement speed.  While you will reach your destination safely if you fast travel, I don't recommend trying to do it without fast travelling, as you are likely to go ka-sploot.

Thank you for reading this far, and I hope you enjoy "Rings of Rapidity."

The rings are in a "Mysterious Strongbox" hidden behind a tree in the area around the Guardian Stones.  Not to be confused with the strongbox added by "Ryn's Standing Stones," which is compatible.

Installation, Uninstallation and Upgrade:

For your convenience, I recommend you use a mod manager (e.g. Vortex), but this mod is only a single file.  Therefore, manual installation, uninstallation or upgrade, is easy, if you are familiar with managing files and folders, and using an archive extraction program (e.g. 7-zip):

Installation:

1. Download the file.
2. Extract the file to a temporary location.
3. Place the extracted .esp file into your Skyrim Special Edition Data folder.
4. Activate the mod using the launcher or your preferred mod manager.

Uninstallation:

IMPORTANT: If you want to uninstall this mod, you must follow the instructions below or you, and possibly your followers, will be stuck at the speed given by the enchantments:

- Remove from your character all the rings, along with any other items you enchanted with the fortify speed enchantment.
- Also remove from your followers any and all such items you gave to them.
- Dismiss all followers and find somewhere outside, as far as possible from anyone who will complain or offer to pick up items you drop.
- Throw all the affected items on the ground.
- Move about a bit to confirm your speed has returned to normal.
- Save your game.
- Disable or uninstall the mod:
  1. Use the launcher or your mod manager to disable the mod.
  2. Delete the LRazorRingsofRapidity.esp file from your Skyrim Special Edition Data folder.
- Reload your save.
- Your speed should now be normal, but if not, open the console and issue this command:

player.forceav speedmult 100

- Close the console and re-save your game.

If you have any similarly bugged followers:
- If the follower's face is covered, talk to the follower and remove any helmets or head covering gear so you can see their face.  Exit the follower's inventory.
- open the console and click on the follower's face.  Then, issue the following command:

forceav speedmult 100

- Close the console and give your follower back their helmet if you had to take it.
- Repeat for each bugged follower.
- Save your game and reload.

You and all your followers' speed should now be normal, but if not, you will have to load a savegame where neither your character nor your followers were wearing the rings or any other items you enchanted with the fortify speed enchantment.

Upgrade:

1. Follow the Uninstallation instructions above.
2. It is strongly recommended to make a "clean save" before installing the new file.  Otherwise unexpected and unwanted results may occur.
3. Follow the Installation instructions above.

Requirements:

Nothing other than the base game and DLCs.

Load Order and Incompatibilities:

Load Order should be irrelevant, although this mod may conflict with anything that mods

Spoiler:
Show
The area around the Guardian Stones.  "Ryn's Standing Stones" is compatible.

Place my mod after any such mod in your load order if a problem arises, and if that doesn't fix it, let me know and I'll see what I can do about it.

Known Issues or Bugs:

As noted above under "Uninstallation" if you uninstall the mod without first getting rid of all the rings you, and possibly your followers, will be stuck at the speed given by the enchantments.  This appears to be an issue with the game engine, and therefore unfixable at least as far as I know.

VERSION 1.0 IS CORRUPT (as discovered by cohypocrit, thank you for that).  All who downloaded this version are strongly advised to revert to a save prior to installing the mod.  If you can't do that, then at least follow the upgrade directions above, especially taking the part about making a clean save as absolute rather than a mere recommendation.

Changelog:
1.0 - Initial release.
1.1 - Version 1.0 corruption found and fixed.  No changes to content.

Anticipated Questions:

Q: Did you get permission from Rob342 to port "Super Speed Rings?"
A: While Rob342's mod "Super Speed Rings" is the inspiration for this mod, it is not a port, nor did I use any resources from Super Speed Rings.  "Rings of Rapidity" is my own interpretation, and all my own work.

Q: Are there scripts?
A: Only such scripts as are part of the base game.

Q: So, this mod is safe to uninstall?
A: It must be unistalled properly (see Uninstallation above), but as long as you follow the instructions, yes as far as I know.  I installed and uninstalled this mod several times during testing and never broke any of my saves.

Q: Will you consider suggestions for improvement?
A: Sorry, not this time.  This mod is effectively finished as I envision it.

Q: If I find a bug in "Rings of Rapidity" will you fix it?
A: Other than the issue mentioned above, I'll try.  The likelihood of my success will largely depend on how much you're willing to work with me on it.

Q: Would you convert "Rings of Rapidity" to Skyrim LE?
A: Much as I'd like to, I'm sorry, but no.  Long story short, I just don't have the resources to support an SLE version of "Rings of Rapidity."  If you want to, and you're willing to support it, please feel free to back-port "Rings of Rapidity" to Skyrim LE.  Just credit me, and if you tell me you've done it, I just might even put a link to your mod page for it.

Q: When you say you "just don't have the resources to support an SLE version" what do you mean?
A: Money and time mostly.  Just for starters, I'd need another computer to install LE on.  I know, I could install both editions on the same computer, but I won't be able to mentally keep them straight.  My memory and concentration aren't what they used to be, and they weren't all that strong to begin with.

Q: So, no console versions either?
A: This mod contains no external resources so it could probably be done, just not by me. Again, credit me and feel free to port it.

Will you make different versions for different playstyles?
A: No, but feel free to credit me and port this mod to alternate versions.

Q: Are you aware that there's already a mod that does this, and does it better than yours?
A: I know there are other mods which add wearable items which increase your movement speed, but I wasn't able to find a mod that does it in quite this way.  If by chance I'm mistaken and there is such a mod, that's awesome!  Wish I could have found it before I went to all this trouble.  Please point me to it; I'd be grateful.

Q: No screenshots?
A: The only screenshot I could do would be a fat spoiler, so not this time.
