Rabbits of Skyrim:
Mod by: Grandbulwark
Assets by: KANRAx2
Now ported to SSE/SAE with superior implementation ensuring even distribution of ALL 27 variants!

Be sure to check out my new SSE Exclusive Release: Daedric Influence - Artifact Overhaul

SSE Release Notes:
I've been gone for a while now, and sadly a lot of my old passion projects have been somewhat neglected.  This mod is a prime example, due to the frankly sloppy implementation of the Skyrim LE version(my bad, I know) users were entirely unable to port this mod as it could not be opened with the creation kit.  This was essentially due to a needless hack on my part, namely directly replacing actor references with leveled actor counterparts.

This version is far superior to the old implementation.  Not only have I replaced all references to rabbits within the Skyrim leveled lists, I've also replaced every hand placed rabbit with leveled template actor rabbit.  This ensures that no matter where you see a rabbit, it will be one of the 27 shown here.  It won't just be the white rabbit either, there is a equal chance for all of them.  Further 2 of the 3 rabbit actors have been templated to mine, rather than Bethesda's rabbit.  While I couldn't apply said template to the third actor(EncHare - the main rabbit actor of the game), I did change him to the appearance of the default white rabbit from this mod.  Mind you, EncHare is no longer directly placed in the game.  I changed his appearance anyway in the event that your Bashed patch/merged patch inadvertently restores EncHare to the leveled lists.

LEGENDARY RABBIT HUNT:  There is a very small chance(something like 1 in 54 spawns) that you'll find the legendary rabbit.  The rabbit carries the legendary artifact "The Ring of Khajiiti".  You'll know the rabbit by the shroud of miasma around him(pics in images section), he's also very fast and much harder to kill than your average wabbit.  Don't worry about accidentally knocking him off a cliff, the ring is added to your inventory when you kill him.  He has a chance to appear anywhere that Rabbits spawn, that chance remains until the player kills him.  He is protected, and thus can only be killed by the player.

Ring of Khajiiti Effects: 10% movement speed bonus, or 30% while sneaking.  Invisibility while sneaking(you turn visible briefly when attacking) and muffle.

This feature is optional.  If you wish you opt out, you can either stay on the old version(functionally identical, just no legendary rabbit content), or simply enter the following console commands after installing the new version:

Set ROS_LegendaryRabbitGlobal to 100
Set ROS_StandardRabbitGlobal to 0

Why the Rabbits though?
This mod is made from a resource I picked up.  I downloaded it from GendunDrup's Creature Resource compilation here and then traced it back to the mod page of origin here.

It go me curious as to the levels of diversity of rabbits in Skyrim, something I'd not yet paid any attention too.  Well it turns out, there is only a single rabbit actor in Skyrim...  And he, looks like this;

What in the hell... Is... That!?

Well, obviously you could replace this model; but then at that point you still only have 1 type of rabbit.  Then of course there is the option of automatic variants, but then you're still facing the problem of that ugly, low poly rabbit model.

So what doe this mod do about it
  • Adds three better rabbit models
  • Applies 9 Textures to each model
  • Adds all 27 of the resulting variants to a sublist(BulwarkRabbitSublist)
  • Makes an actor which is templated off that sublist(Bulwark_MasterRabbit)
  • Replaces all vanilla references to "EncHare" with ones to "BulwarkMasterRabbit"
  • Replaces the 4 placements of "EncHare" within Skyrim leveled lists(LCharAmbientCreatures and LCharAmbientCreaturesSnow.  Two placements in each) with the "BulwarkRabbitSublist"
  • The vanilla rabbit actor(EncHare) has been removed from all references and lists, and it's appearance has been altered to that of a white rabbit from this mod.  This ensures the new rabbits will appear regardless of user bashed patches, and most likely in mod added worldspaces(unless they made a new rabbit record entirely, which is unlikely).

This Video should give you the idea.  Thanks to Matthiaswag for making it!

Another Review video brought to you by Thyworm

Technical Information:
  • Rabbits use 1024x1024 textures
  • Leveled lists are slightly altered, bashed patch is suggested for people who have other creature mods.  Ensure that resulting leveled listsLCharAmbientCreatures(000EC969) and LCharAmbientCreaturesSnow(000EC96B) do NOT contain the EncHare record, yet do contain the BulwarkRabbitSublist.
  • Patches restoring "EncHare" to the leveled lists, or mods/patches overwriting the aforementioned leveled lists will NOT prevent this mod from functioning.  It will merely increase the likelihood of you getting the default white rabbit variant.
  • Mod added worldspaces which place the "EncHare" record(Falskaar and the like) will only get the default white rabbit, unless they placed the via the vanilla leveled lists I mentioned above.  This is the best I can do without making a specific patch for the mod in question.
