Update for clarification (9/27/22):
This patch was made for either Bijin NPCs.esp as a standalone or the AIO install process that leaves you with three .esps (Bijin NPCs, Bijin Warmaidens, and Bijin Wives). If you have then downloaded the Bijin AIO.esp and disabled the other esps, this patch may not work. I am going to make a separate patch for that use case, as I recognize that is probably more common.
In addition, LOOT (or whatever you use to sort your load order) will still say it's looking for "Vex.esp" for now if you are using my patch for the Bijin NPCs.esp. The patch will still work, and you can ignore that error. It's happening because I was not experienced enough at the time of making this to know how to change the master, this patch simply resolves conflicts between the esps.
I will add the Bijin AIO.esp patch to the files and update the Bijin NPCs.esp patch when I can, which will hopefully be within the next month.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, as I have never published any patches or mods before.
The Gist:
xEdit can be scary. The idea of making a custom patch to make two mods play nicely together can be scary. It doesn't have to be, but if it scares you, I understand. It used to scare me, too.
The Deets:
If you're using the Bijin NPCs mod or its All-In-One option, you'll find that Nether's Vex references the standalone Vex.esp, which will show up as an error in LOOT (or whatever method you use to check your load order). If you're brand spankin' new to modding and just want pretty NPCs that you can make followers and don't want to get too technical, that basically means that Nether's Vex is trying to reference records it thinks you don't have. With the patch, Nether's Vex will now appropriately look to Bijin NPCs for Vex's...assets. ;)
The Install:
Just download and install with your mod manager of choice/install manually as you would any other mod or patch. Because it's just a patch, it's ESL flagged. Load after both Bijin NPCs and Nether's Vex.
If you're confused about load order and patching, 1) watch a video/read about it real quick before you wreck your game, and 2) drop this down at the bottom of your load order with any of your other patches after you have Bijin NPCs and Nether's Vex sorted.
My load order for the mods & patch looks like:
NWS_Vex.esp
Bijin NPCs.esp
NWS_Vex_Bijin.esp (this is included in Nether's Vex, and is what tries to reference the standalone Vex.esp)
Nether's Vex - Bijin AIO Patch.esp (this is my patch)
The Disclaimers:
1. I'm only posting this because it was a very simple patch to make, and I have permission to post this from Nether. The creator of Bijin NPCs never got back to me, but Nether's take on patches being okay lines up with what I figured, so I'm going ahead and posting it since I'm awful at checking my messages on here to share the patch individually. If the author of Bijin NPCs wants me to take it down, I will.
2. I do not claim to be an expert at xEdit, nor do I claim to know how to fix all compatibility issues between mods. There are tons of wonderful videos and posts out there that detail this process, I highly recommend GamerPoets on Youtube if you want to learn more about modding and how to fix common issues and incompatibilities.
Please remember to Endorse the mods this is a patch for!
Those are the mod authors who did the hard work, I just made a tiny handful of references point to the right place.
