About this mod

I had lots of ruined books from doing some dungeons earlier, so I wanted to make a way to turn ruined books into Sparks spell tomes.

Explanation

While doing a playthrough of Champion of The Daedra (which I have wanted to do for a long time but put it off until recently (necessary for discovering any unintentional issues), I felt it was too inconvenient to have to purchase Sparks spell tomes from Court Wizards, as they don't stock enough to upgrade 'The Mud-Dance of Worms Amulet'.
I had lots of ruined books from doing some dungeons earlier, so I wanted to make a way to turn ruined books into Sparks spell tomes.
I knew I could use the transmute script, but I learned today that you can use any .nif as a type of furniture, so I can create custom workbenches out of any static (fixed 3d object) in the game.

What's in this mod

  • A recipe to craft an Enchanted Quill, from Charcoal and a filled Grand Soul Gem. This is crafted at the same seating area in The Midden, that you sit at to craft the Novice Destruction spell tomes. If you do not have the Enchanted Quill in your inventory, you cannot craft Novice Destruction spell tomes. This does not prevent you from crafting petty soul gems from soul gem pieces.
  • A Spell Tome teaching you how to Transmute Soul Gem Fragments into Soul Gem Pieces (the fragments are a variety of items, while the pieces are a single item which is used to craft petty soul gems) which is placed inside the wardrobe in The Midden, next to the table you will need to sit at to craft Novice Destruction spell tomes.
  • Recipes to craft charcoal from Firewood, at any smelter. You may already have a mod like that in your load order, but as this is convenient to have if you have this mod, and highly inconvenient if you don't already have that recipe in your load order, it was worth adding.
  • Recipes to craft Novice Destruction spell tomes from Ruined Books, or Rolls of Paper. Ruined Books can be found in a variety of dungeons in Skyrim and Solstheim. Rolls of Paper can also be found in various dungeons, but this mod provides you with a way to Transmute Firewood directly into Rolls of Paper. It is the same transmutation spell that transmutes soul gem fragments. Just use it repeatedly until it cycles from soul gem fragments to checking for firewood.
  • Transmuting will grant you Alteration XP (the same amount you get from transmuting iron ore to silver), and Crafting the Novice Destruction spell tomes will grant you some Enchanting XP.

Also important to note

'Craft-able Soul Gems' https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/22204  is what I decided to use for crafting soul gems, and 'Midden Spell Tome Crafting by ZXC Mods' is built based around 'Craft-able Soul Gems'. This is why the 'soul gem fragments to petty soul gems' concept was decided on. It is a recommended mod if you want to use this.
Since Midden Spell Tome Crafting is made to support Champion of The Daedra (COTD), it is possible that it will be merged into a future update of COTD.

Known Issues

  • When you use the crafting station, you will sit down. When you are done crafting, press the back button to exit, as usual, but you will still be sitting down. Jump to get out of the seat. I find it annoying, but only a small issue. It would be awesome if you could just get up without having to press jump, but I currently don't have a solution for that as yet. You won't be stuck in the chair, you can just jump freely to get up.
  • Sometimes followers sat in the seat while I was sitting in the seat using the crafting station. Annoying. I researched how to stop that happening, and went back into the mod and checked a furniture detail box 'Ignored by sandbox'. I went back into the game to check if it made a difference, but my follower still approached the seat and stood on the table. It might be because the sandboxing of the chair was baked into the savegame, so changing it afterwards didn't fully take.
