About this mod

A very light-weight and simple mod to remove all the free gold that just happens to be lying around for you to pick up - because randomly finding cash lying around all over the place just doesn't happen IRL.

Description from the original mod listing on Oldrim

What it does:  This simple immersion mod quite simply removes *ALL* loose gold and loose coin purses from the game.

How it does this:  I simply edited the base objects "Gold" and "Coin Purse" in the Creation kit so that they no longer reference a mesh.  This effectively removes them from sight and prevents the player from interacting with them in the game.  When you play, it's as though they aren't there.

What it doesn't do:  This mod doesn't remove all gold; the player still has it, NPCs still have it, leveled lists still have it (treasure chests etc), but it will no longer just be lying around all over the place.

Why I made it:  I've always found that the weakest link in Skyrim and in Elder scrolls games in general has been the loot system and the overall economy.  I just hate it.  You bust out of prison and twenty minutes later you're a millionaire.... Why is this?  Because money is fricken EVERYWHERE.  Go into a nordic crypt that's been abandoned and locked away from mortal contact for two thousand years... and find today's currency just lying around in big piles.  Right.  When was the last time you explored an abandoned mine from another country, filled your pockets, then went to 7-11 and bought your groceries with what you found lying on the floor?

Also this will add further challenge to your character's progression.  It'll be harder to "buy" skill points and cheat your way to OP-ness with an easily expoitable economy.  I'd highly recommend you use this alongside other "poverty" mods which reduce loot and/or gold from leveled lists.  I find this type of mod set-up is particularly rewarding for thief-style characters, because it motivates you that much more to steal to get rich.

Anyway that's that.  Please let me know about any problems.  I couldn't think of anything this would break... but this has barely been tested.  I just confirmed that the gold and coin purses are indeed no longer visible in game.

One thing to mention.  You will no longer be able to look at your gold in your inventory; it's still there, and you can still spend it, but if you will no longer be able to see the model of it in your inventory's 3D object viewer.  This is normal behavior.

Finally, it goes without saying that any gold/septim/coin sack texture replacers are incompatible/useless, since they don't have a mesh to latch onto.  It shouldn't cause any problems, but obviously you won't be able to see your modded textures.

Enjoy.
