Yeah so I got a nasty surprise today, Vortex the wonderful mod organizer that obviously everyone loves and is perfect in every way gave me this pop up earlier saying: Due to oddities in the game engine, some loose files will not get loaded unless we change the filetime on the vanilla bsa/ba2 files. There is no drawback to doing this. Yeah no drawbacks right? It killed my game, don't click it if you have 1.5.97 because when I got everything back up and running I got this next:
You have updated to the Anniversary Edition (AE) of Skyrim. Please download the AE version of SKSE64 from https://skse.silverlock.org.
I never went onto Steam, never started Skyrim, or did anything to change my version. Freaking Vortex did without warning me. And what's also great, this new update 1.6.1170 doesn't budge when running halgari's downgrader even though it was a lifesaver when Bethesda AE'd us. -.-'
So anyway after all the BS I can confirm the guide Solidjinzo24 mentioned works and my SSE is back to 1.5.97
I had to add though to make absolutely sure you back up your files before attempting it, at the very least your racemenu presets, bodyslide, mod fixes or whichever you provided personally because neither the clean version of Skyrim you get nor the mod organizer will backup them up for you.
And lastly Thank You comment section you are a life-saver ^.^
This is what happened to me! I was like, what the...? I ran the other downgrade patcher, but my game has been busted to Hades and back since. Hopefully that Reddit thread will help. I had eight months into a 1400+ mod list, I need it fixed!
Hello.... i watched the Video, downloded patcher, logged in with my steam account and typed in verification email code. the Patcher shows he found the Game version Logged into SteamSteam has provided game informationSKSE for 1.5.97.0 found in install folder but " Start Downloading" is not highlitghted and nothingmore happens. no dowmload of game datafiles happening. Skyrim AE update Version is 1.6.1170.0 Please help
same here, i thought i would be able to downgrade again but now its at version 1.6.1170.0.8 and there is no downgrader that i can find. cant belive they made AE a seperate game and also have it as a part of SE... SO DUMB
im now unable to play my Skyrim until a downgrader for the 1.6.1170.0.8 version is made. im pissed off
I'm actually so sad, it just wont work for the reason listed, I even tried the other downgrade patcher he has and ran into similar issue. Can't figure out what the reason is
Based on the information I got while researching you MUST have the version of skyrim PRIOR to the updated version. For example my mod list is based around version 1.5.97 so for me I would have to be on the version updated after 1.5.97 in order for the patcher to work. If you’re trying to downgrade 2 updates later it wont work. With that being said you have to use steam console and use commands to download previous versions of skyrim but in my opinion going that route you just might aswell download the version you’re wanting from there rather than getting the one for the patcher. Doing this way defeats the purpose of this patcher and the other this author made. Unless you are already on the version it needs to be downgraded. Hope this helped.
Trying this version since the other aint updated yet, but it wont stay logged in on Steam (Logout button stays gray, Login stays highlighted) even tho the Log says "Steam has provided game information".
Ofc the Start Download stays greyed out too, so you cant start anything.
Would love to know this as well, as its happening to me too. I've had to manually DL all the files for 1.5.97 SE myself using these codes in the Steam console (per the instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/18bh43k/if_you_accidentally_updated_your_skyrim_here_is/).

Hi, I followed all the steps and my game is 1.5.97, the game starts up correctly, however when I click on new game the game crashes, and I noticed an irregularity in the main menu, the "Mod Manager" option is written as "$Mod Manager". I have no mods installed, only SKSE v2.0.20 (for 1.5.97). Is anyone running into the same issue who might be able to assist me?
same here 1.6.640 not showing up . this is my last hope j have tried the manifest way, Depot & Steam console keeps coming up with "Entry point not found"
I'm adding my request too. I don't want any of the older versions that this downloader has. I had my game working just the way I want with 1.6.640 and either need the mods I was using to get updated for this newest version or to find a way to go back to 1.6.640 that works, or to start over with my modlist (which is a last resort).
sadly seems this is abandoned. skyrim just "updated" from 1.6.640 to 1.6.1130, and 1.6.640 isn't even an option here as this mod hasn't been updated since 2022.
yeah, this is sad, the worse thing is that this even if I followed everything from the video it doesn't let me download my saved1.5.97 version from the cloud, so sad this tool is abandoned
